It's obvious that communicating with aliens would likely be a disaster. Would you walk up to a polar bear and try to explain to it that you mean it no harm and would love to hang out and get to know it?

It could be the opposite though.

Professor Hawking’s apocalyptic predictions began in 2015, when he mentioned in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session that super intelligent AI might wipe us all out. He’s also cautioned against contacting aliens that might not be as friendly as we think.

I've always found these points so fantastically interesting, especially considering they are parroted by so many very intelligent academics, physicists, AI experts, etc.

It sounds like the most crazy conspiracy theory idea on the surface, but then you have guys like this and Carl Sagan cautioning the same thing. It's interesting, and frightening.

Well Carl Sagan yeah he was a bit doom and gloom too, but he too was criticized for being a bit too dire.

"Last month, Reddit user Khemist49 made a truly unlikely find: a gold master source code disc of the original StarCraft. From 1998. At first, he didn’t know what to do with it. Ultimately, he sent it to Blizzard, who was very grateful to have it back.

Khemist49 first came across the disc in a “box of Blizzard stuff” he purchased on eBay. He was shocked at what he saw—a CD-R that read “StarCraft Gold Master Source Code.” When he first posted about it on Reddit, some people asked him to rip its contents and make them freely available, while others derided him as “scummy” for holding onto the disc. He wrote that the decision over what to do with it was driving him “crazy.”

After days of deliberation, Khemist49 said he heard from Blizzard directly. He said the publisher’s legal team had asked him to return the disc because it contained “intellectual property and trade secrets.” He sought legal advice about what to do, but ultimately decided to err on the side of caution and send it to Blizzard. For his troubles, he received a copy of Overwatch and $250 in Blizzard store credit. Cool. He figured that was the end of it.

But in an elated post last night, Khemist49 said that he received a phone call from a Blizzard employee. “He asked me if I have ever heard of BlizzCon,” wrote Khemist49. “I said well, yeah of course but it’s impossible for me to go. I live in the east coast, and the badges are always sold out before you can refresh the page. He said well, the reason we are calling you is to invite you to BlizzCon, all expenses paid, and we would love to take you out for drinks.”

Blizzard also mailed him a giant box full of Overwatch and Diablo PC peripherals and paraphernalia.

Speaking to Kotaku by email, Blizzard confirmed Khemist49's story, saying the company “wanted to show an appropriate level of appreciation to the player for doing the right thing, not just from Blizzard, but on behalf of the large and active community of players who still enjoy StarCraft today.”

Moral of the story: If you find something you think somebody has lost or had taken from them, return it. Especially if you can verify that it belongs to Blizzard Entertainment."

Hell fucking no. Why would I watch a film that presumes I have a personal problem with black people, from how the title sounds? I mean, how would we like it in reverse, "Dear Black People," then we just keep going down the line and singling each other out by race which is a self defeating premise if this is what this movie is supposed to be about. But the title puts me off so fuck that.

^^^with video

"We gotta get out of this place. (“This place” being the Earth that we all know and love).

Stephen Hawking has come up with yet another doomsday prediction for humans, this time giving us just 100 years to skedaddle.

Professor Hawking’s apocalyptic predictions began in 2015, when he mentioned in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session that super intelligent AI might wipe us all out. He’s also cautioned against contacting aliens that might not be as friendly as we think.

In November last year, he gave us about 1,000 years to leave Earth. Then in March of this year, he hinted that a one-world government might be the answer to our myriad problems.

Now the respected physicist is warning that humanity needs to become a multi-planetary species within the next century in order to avoid extinction.

My question is this: What happened in the last in the last six months for him to shave 900 years off our time on Earth? It seems a little…rash.

OK, so the U.S. has its first orange president and North Korea’s Great Haircut is looking a little dangerous, but 900 years less? All due respect, but that’s a massive reduction in our life expectancy.

Professor Hawking made the prediction in a new documentary called Expedition New Earth, which the BBC will air on June 15.

In the documentary, Hawking claims that we need to leave Earth because of problems such as climate change, asteroid strikes, epidemics and overpopulation. He also travels the world with his former student Christopher Galfard and engineering professor Danielle George to find out how we could live in outer space.

In recent months, Mars has been dominating headlines as the most likely candidate for colonisation. The Red Planet has a lot going for it, including ice deposits, useful elements, the potential for renewable energy projects, an atmosphere (albeit thin), kinda tolerable temperatures, decent day length and manageable gravity.

On the minus side, it’s still damn far away and pretty hostile compared to the cushy comforts of Good Old Earth. It’s one thing to talk about leaving, but actually doing it will be very difficult and incredibly dangerous. Getting all of us off Earth within 100 years? No way.

Excluding a sudden meteor strike, to which there is no defence (except Bruce Willis), wouldn’t it be easier to just take better care of this planet?"

Should we be scared now?

there was a twist?

yea, that it was set in the same universe as Unbreakable.

and there's a fan theory that Kevin's (the side with the multiple personalities) dad died in the same train crash that Bruce Willis's character survived, meaning that Mr. Glass inadvertently set Split's events into motion.

Cool theory, didn't think of that. But yeah the twist was that this is the very long awaited sequel to Unbreakable, delivered as a silent bomb (in a good way). Samuel Jackson was once asked a few years ago about Unbreakable. He said it was supposed to be a trilogy and that he was still waiting for Shamylan to get back to him. So my jaw dropped when I realized it was back on at the ending of Split.
