I didnt mind the trance system or how skill learning worked, though

just speeding up the ATB works, but honestly that becomes FFX if taken to the extreme

To be honest, I prefer pure(r) turn-based games like the Shin Megami Tensei series and FF1-3/X. As far as I'm concerned, either go fully turn-based or fully action-based. I'm not massively into these hybrid systems. Aside from timed button presses and shit like Super Mario RPG, FFVIII and Shadow Hearts. I don't mind that if it's done well.

The PS1 is great and was right up there in terms of originality and excitement at the time due to it being one of the first popular, mainstream consoles with dedicated 3D graphics capabilities.

The down side: the graphics and gameplay were at that awkward stage due to 3D gaming being relatively new, but the games were fun as fuck regardless. Although, there were a bunch of good 2D games as well.

Metal Gear Solid blew my mind. This trailer in particular was amazing:

The Tekken series gave me many hours of entertainment:

Crash and Spyro were fun. And Tomba!, Oddworld and more in terms of platformers.

You had Resi, Silent Hill and Fear Effect in terms of survival horror games.

And not to forget the masses of JRPGs. I don't really get when people say the system didn't have much outside of JRPGs. It had great games in many genres.

I was going to mention Super Robot Taisen IV on the Super Famicom, but its translation only really changes the menu items. It's a pretty good SRPG regardless.

If you don't mind slightly more recent games, there's SRT Alpha Gaiden (2001), Original Generation (2002, 2006 in NA) and Original Generation 2 (2005, 2006 in NA). The first has a fan translation, the other two official translations / NA/EU releases.

@G is 3D, but the other 2 are classic in pretty much every sense, release date aside. They're not dissimilar to IV, except that they're in English and on the GBA.

Same.

I can appreciate that it's not for everyone and that devs are trying to evolve their games, but I do probably prefer it for the most part. I certainly don't want all RPGs to be turn-based, but it seems like there are hardly any (big budget / AAA ones on home console / PC) nowadays.

Turn-based combat has its advantages, like being able to function the same in all environments (if it's purely turn-based and/or takes place in a separate screen), being able to utilize more detailed animations without disrupting the combat, it being easier to accommodate story / dialogue within battle scenes, etc. I like how it's more "metaphorical" (see FFVII's world-destroying attack in the final battle).

Scots are by and large actually quite cultured and most of them tend to leave Scotland.

The British idea of speaking Spanish on holiday is to add an o to the end of certain words lol.

People from Northern Ireland are generally called British too, even if they technically aren't. Colloquially, British is used to mean "from the UK", even if, again, that's not strictly true.

And yeah, Ireland is completely separate from the rest of the UK (including NI). That's why Brexit is such a big deal for Ireland and NI. It opens a huge can of worms. See the Good Friday Agreement. Also, for trade, keeping things the same is a terrible deal for Ireland (since basically, you could drive goods from NI to Ireland and ship them to the EU tariff free, despite not being in the EU any more).

It's up there with AoS and SotN for me.

It's almost like a fusion between classic and modern. It's one of the more difficult Metroidvanias, the atmosphere is darker rather than anime-esque and you're stick with the whip (well, aside from powers that temporarily change your weapon).

It's hard to pick one really.

If you loved SotN, try the GBA/DS games. Aria of Sorrow is great. I hear Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia are good too, but haven't played them. I've played all the others though. Harmony of Dissonance was the worst of the Metroidvanias. I quite liked Circle of the Moon and Portrait of Ruin, but the opinions of them are a bit mixed I think.

SCIV is great as far as the classics go.

So internet freedom is leaving. So what do some folks suggest. Net neutrality. Yeah because that's what we need. The government and other governing bodies to be in charge of something else and run it horribly.

The internet in the US has operated under net neutrality from the beginning (with rules being formalized in 2010 and becoming legally binding recently) and has gone from strength to strength. Net neutrality does not mean the government 'running it' anyway. It just means that certain traffic can't be prioritized (outside of some specific instances I think) and that internet users can't effectively be gouged. That's even more important nowadays with the lack of choice for most. Gutting the net neutrality rules would only benefit ISPs.

The illegal stuff aside, companies like Facebook, Google, etc. are too powerful these days (and getting more so), and making the internet into a bit of a "walled garden" rather than the "wild west". Those bigger sites that are gobbling more of the internet up with their bigger market share.

If net neutrality goes, then the internet will inevitably go even further down that route, with the big ISPs favoring their own sites/content over others.

It can be hard to tell at times given the trolls that drown out everyone else, the posters (typically right-wingers) that are "totally unbiased centrists/libertarians", etc.

The mods may lean left though, or at least you'd think so given how often they're accused of having a left-wing bias. You'd think few would have a reason to complain if the board really is so left-leaning.

Racial superiority

Banning Trade Unions
Relaxing gun control laws for everyone except for the 'inferior' sectors of the population (e.g. Jews)
Mass privatizations in the 1930s (the term actually comes from an Economist article on German economic policy at the time)

They literally killed off the left-wing of the party (the Strasserists and Rohm on the Night of the Long Knives). The SDP (socialists) were the only party to vote against the Enabling Act, despite threats of violence. The equivalents of modern conservatives / classical liberals voted unanimously for it.

Because voices on the left are doing their best to equate right-wing ideals like small government, free speech, and property rights with fascism.

Linking free speech and small government to fascism is obviously idiotic, but that doesn't mean you reply to that with more idiocy.

On property rights, fascists were very much "in bed" with the aristocracy, land owners / farmers, etc. Although, obviously it's not specifically a fascist policy. That'd be idiotic to claim too.

Definitely detail.

I'd take Morrowind over Skyrim/Oblivion for example. More towns/cities, interiors, etc. densely populated with NPCs and quests beats large open spaces any day. I also like having to find my own way (using directions and familiarity with landmarks), which gets tedious in larger games.

The brilliant thing about Morrowind is that if a character is mentioned, you can probably find them somewhere and interact with them. That sort of detail is what I want to see. Of course, a lot of dialogue is repeated, but there's still way more unique dialogue than in the later games. You can thank voice acting for that though.
