Cus rich kids got scammed. It's funny when it happens to rich kids.

It's more about the victims' stupidity (seriously, read about the marketing for this festival, anyone w/ half a brain could smell the bs through their computer screen), how much they were paying per ticket for such shit music acts, and the fact that some compared their plight to refugees, hurricane disaster victims, etc...
Makes it really easy to not feel bad for them, and pretty enjoyable to laugh at them.

For what it's worth, I laughed my ass off over that tumblr convention ("DashCon"?), too. Stupid people getting scammed in over the top brazen fashion like both of those events is inherently funny.

I avoid playing them at all and don't think I ever have, unless Free To Play includes ANY free games, even ones w/o micro-transactions. In that case, I used to enjoy some Newgrounds flash games way back (in particular some sort of first person perspective slasher where you're a samurai wandering through dungeon-like castles I forget the name on). And Exit Fate is an amazing free Suikoden-inspired game made w/ RPGMaker, one of the best RPGs of the past decade or so.

But I've spent $0 on them regardless.

Went to a Mexican restaurant (no, not Taco Bell :p) several days ago.
Waiter asked if we were coming back May 5th b/c they were having a big Cinco de Mayo celebration.
In turn I asked if they do anything special for Sept. 16th.
Waiter asked me, "what's that?"
:D

I find it rather silly that Cinco de Mayo is a more important holiday than their own independence day, and I don't drink, so I don't particularly care for Cinco de Mayo. Like St. Patrick's Day, it's just another evening I have to avoid being out on the roads to avoid a massive increase in drunk drivers and (even worse) cops set up to nail said drunk drivers but who would probably be fine w/ nailing me for going 5 over the speed limit while they're out there.

I do love Mexican food, though.

There was a Simpsons episode where Homer's in the kitchen working on a crossword puzzle. Asks...i think Bart...for help. He needs a word that starts with C for a set of ideas that sounds good in principle but never works out in reality. Instead of the expected "Communism", Bart suggests "Christianity" and Homer replies, "that's the one!"

Can't remember which episode, but that's what I immediately thought of when I saw this topic. :D

Tales is better than FF VII and Xenoblade is DEFINITELY better. Never played Stardew, didn't look interesting at all.

FF VII is tied w/ OoT for most overrated game of all time, it's a pretty mediocre RPG that's completely inferior in every way to its own predecessor in the series (just like OoT, in fact...), I'd put dozens of RPGs ahead of it.
They put Legend of Dragoon and Super Mario RPG lower than FF VII, that's wrong.
The Legend of Dragoon follows Dart, a traditional RPG protagonist who just really can’t catch a break. His parents are killed, his hometown is destroyed — twice — and on his way home from a journey to avenge them he’s attacked by a really cool dragon named Sandora.

It's named Feyrbrand, damn it!

Looks like the list isn't complete yet, but aside from some obvious big names that will be at the top of the list (like Chrono Trigger), what the actual fuck at none of these appearing yet:
ANY Suikoden game!
Radiant Historia
FF VI and Tactics (since they have so many FF entries already, I wonder if either will be left out)
Seiken Densetsu 3
Baten Kaitos Origins or EW & LO (the first game of the series)

Studies have shown that girls toys cost more than boys toys 55% of the time.

Really? A lot of traditionally "boy's" toys like Legos and Erector sets are pretty fucking expensive.

Girls clothing cost more than boys clothing 26% of the time.

Women's clothing costs more than men's clothing over 40% of the time.

Well, all clothing is pretty generalized. But men's clothing is usually much simpler in design than women's clothing, partly due to how bodies are shaped. And again, pretty generalized. Is women's clothing a lot more expensive, or do women shell out more money than they need to to get "designer" brands while men don't give a shit as long as it's comfortable and looks ok?
Just went to a wedding and my wife found plenty of nice dresses for $30 - $50 and ended up paying $12 for one from a store that sells previously owned clothing.
Meanwhile, I needed a new dress shirt and that alone was $20. I luckily had everything else, but my pants were $35, dress coat $100, shoes $30 (payless FTW, otherwise dress shoes for men are easily 2x or 3x as much), belt...was so long ago I don't remember but probably $15, tie was around $15-20.... And I'm chea....err..."frugal" and only buy stuff on sale or at a really good price.
Just saying.

Women routinely pay over 25% more for haircuts than men – even though both take the same amount of labour.

LOL, that's fucking bull shit

Estate tax is a good tax. First off, they don't even tax the first several million dollars, so it only even hits the ultra wealthy. The estate tax will never effect 99% of this board, and that's an underestimate, if anything. And it helps limit how much of a giant leg up wealthy families can pass on to prevent a permanent nobility (well, restrict it...we definitely still have a permanent nobility).

Also, nearly all money is taxed multiple times, stop acting like the estate tax is special. I get taxed on my income. Then that money, which has already been taxed, gets taxed again nearly any time I buy shit (sales tax), earn on my savings (and that's taxed at income rates, not capital gains, so that's a double fuck you), or do anything else other than keep the damn money in a mattress.

BotW definitely has the most grinding of any Zelda game. I'm not sure why people like that so much either. I think it's because some people think games need to keep getting longer and longer to be up to "modern" standards. And I think BotW does that in a way I can enjoy with all of the exploration aspects, but some stuff takes it too far, like the armor upgrades. I know they aren't mandatory, but upgrading your armor is fun - the problem is that wandering around for materials is not so fun.

It's not just the literal grinding, though. The game seriously doesn't care about your time in general. Like any time you're trying to explore a mountainous area and it starts raining. If rain made it harder to climb so you need more stamina, fine. But it doesn't, it just plain shuts it down beyond very short distances you can force through w/ climb-jump.
Or how there is literally no manual at all. You have to blunder through until you figure out how to do something on your own or catch it as a random loading screen tidbit. ("That's just Nintendo going back to the old school way" No, it's fucking not! Game manuals used to be pretty comprehensive and LttP for example outright gave you tips on where to go for the entire light world segment)
Or in general how huge and empty it is. I hated that about OoT, and this game doesn't get a pass on it from me, either. At least the wild life makes it a bit "lively."

Yeah but they record the name and address of people who tip badly or not at all so they can remember to spit in your food if you order from them again, it's a huge conspiracy all the pizza chains are in on it.

It's true. My friend never admitted to spitting on someone's pizza, but he did know which houses didn't tip, and said the other drivers kept info on it, too. He'd intentionally hold onto the no-tipper's pizza for nearly an hour while delivering to other houses even though they put their orders in later.

Seriously though. Why do some people think it's a good idea to piss off the employees who handle your food? I don't like tipping for pizza...so I pick it up myself. You want to be lazy, pay for it.

And how exactly is that a Nazi-sympathetic argument? Because trying to deny that France had any complicity with the Nazis seems a strange way to support or sympathize with them. I haven't gotten SW 4 yet, but I have 1-3 and the expansions for the first two, and they were all good.
SW is probably my favorite "Koei Warriors" series, it seems to innovate...in good ways...more than the mainline Dynasty Warriors series does. Every character has their own moveset (no clones) and their own story (some don't get a story mode and others share some cutscenes, but it's not strictly one story per faction like DW was), and the enemy variety tends to be better.

He's being handed two simultaneously. There are four possible outcomes. Ergo 2/4 or 1/2

Ok, first of all, the TC never said simultaneous, that's an assumption you and some others are inserting:
He picks out two socks at random. Probability of pulling a matching pair?

Second, even if it were simultaneous, as long as you're picking 2 different socks and not replacing the sock(s) you take out, you can treat the events as having a 1st and 2nd pick to make the calculations easier anyway.
Finally, even if you want to look at it your way, you're not representing the situation correctly. You reach in at the same time w/ your left and right hands, and grab two different socks. Your subset of choices for each hand is:
Left hand: the 4 socks in the drawer - the sock in your right hand = 3 socks to choose from
Right hand: the 4 socks in the drawer - the sock in your left hand = 3 socks to choose from

And I don't feel like doing that math from there, it's needlessly complicated and you're probably going to ignore what I type anyway. Instead, I'll re-post this response which shows how things work well enough for anyone to understand:

But you are forgetting to multiply by the odds of picking the first sock.

If you pick pink, you have 1/3 of getting pink again.
If you pick white, you have 1/3 of getting white again.
It's 1/3 regardless.

But fine, let's look at it your way.
You have a 1/2 chance of the first pick being white. And a 1/3 chance after that of the 2nd pick being white. 1/2 * 1/3 = 1/6 chance.
You have a 1/2 chance of the first pick being pink. And a 1/3 chance after that of the 2nd pick being pink. 1/2 * 1/3 = 1/6 chance.

1/6 + 1/6 = still 1/3 probability of getting matching colors.

I think it's 1/3. Imagine he picks a white sock. There are now 2 pink socks (non-matching) and 1 white sock, leaving a 1 in 3 chance of a matching pair.

Agree. It doesn't matter which he draws first, the chance of drawing a matching sock is 1/3.

Also agreed. Doesn't matter if he draws them simultaneously or not, for the purposes of the problem, you can treat one draw as the "first."

Whichever color he draws first, there are now three socks left. One is the matching color, two are not. Therefore, the probability he will draw a match is 1/3.

That doesn't make any sense. There are 4 possible outcomes, not 3 possible outcomes. The clue isn't about picking one and then the odds of picking one that matches, it's picking TWO at random and whether those two match.

The person is removing a sock after he picks each. He is not replacing them (at least as worded in the opening topic, otherwise he's not ending up w/ a pair of socks in hand anyway).
If he takes out a white sock, he cannot select that white sock again on his 2nd pick from what was originally four. His 2nd pick is among a pool of three because one possible option has been removed.

Undertale didn't even start knocking off the "heavy hitters" until the very end. Before that, it took out a lot of good games that aren't overhyped as shit in its wake. I don't have particularly positive things to say about either OoT (Kana can certainly confirm this) or FF7 and it annoyed the hell out of me.

I think they should retire any game that's already won the tournament so that you actually get new titles winning every year w/o bs "rallies" for a joke choice or flavor of the month.

Of those listed, I guess Greek. It's the Married: With Children of mythology, and that's awesome!

Native American was tempting just because of how cool the Popuh Vul and legend of the Hero Twins is in Mayan mythology, but that's not enough to carry it. Xibalba is the coolest underworld ever, though.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xibalba

Japanese deities themselves don't really interest me, but that mythology probably has the best list of creatures.

Hindu myths are pretty crazy, it's basically sci-fi before there was sci-fi.

I'm not too familiar, but I've heard Celtic...in particular Irish myths...have some over the top stories.

Judeo-Christian/Islam myths are pretty dull. Main story I like from them is Sampson, that dude was a badass. I guess the Exodus is pretty good, too.

Good first day out. My mom didn't even notice I was packing my sword lol. Saw one suspicious guy at the grocery store and put myself in a good position in case he made a move. Thankfully for him, he didn't. Definitely feel much safer with my blade and will keep it up.

I think, on behalf of all of us, I just have to say thank you for keeping us safe.

Well, the least spoiler-y hint I can give you is to ask...

In the D-team branch, where Diana has to choose between shooting Sigma and hoping there's no bullet and...not doing that, have you taken every possible outcome (shoot, but nothing happens to him; shoot and kill him; don't shoot) as far along as you can?
If you're not sure, try going back to that.

If i'm on a machine and someone else wants to use it, I ask if he or she wants to use it in between my sets since I'm not using it then anyway.
But then again, I have a sense of etiquette.

I usually am suspect of cries of racism over everything. But I read that all four of the people "randomly" chosen to be forced to leave the plane in that case were Asian. If that's true, that does seem like a pretty big "coincidence."
