let's go was pretty much an anti-experiment, they were hedging their bets by maximising the casual appeal (from go players and anime fans) so that feels like a pretty bad example compared to "x and y sequel for legends arceus players"

anyway i was caught out, i was rewriting the narrative of the topic to suggest that the choice would be THE launch title, the flagship

while that is not wrong, can you really imagine nintendo deciding to rely on a... sequel? prequel? to do the business for them on a new unproven console

i'm even doubting that mp4 would manage to leave enough of a dent if it doesn't at least also come with 1-3 hd

the possibility that switch 2 could be another wii u case isn't impossible

Pokemon Z-A itself seems like it might be coming out around the same time as the Switch 2.
to elaborate, while it wouldn't surprise me if z-a could be a launch title for switch 2, i think it'd only really be a key system seller if it was gen 10 (and also far less rushed than swsh/sv which is impossible given the circumstances)

if the metroid launch game in question is prime 4 (and trilogy hd at the same time) then yeah it would be the big one, anything less and it's debatable

paper mario would not be unless it's literally a ttyd hd direct sequel lol

pokemon would be a good one if they were solely focusing on it rn and not busy making z-a lol

animal crossing would be if the switch 2 launch coincided with a new epide-too soon?

dkc is a solid shout but it'd need to be something on a level beyond anything the series has had before to be a STRONG launch title compared to what came before. i wouldn't rule that out though, they've had time to quietly plan something like that

if pikmin 4 had been a switch 2 launch title then it'd have been pretty good for one, but since it's not...

KI would be a bold launch title tbh, i think it'd only work if it's specifically an uprising hd release and the switch 2 is prioritising all the same things that the 3ds had, 3d included (and that's never happening)

star fox could've made for a good launch title but zero's reception killed any hope it'd have at being treated as a flagship now

mario sports games are not system sellers lol

smash and mk are the obvious answers

still i think it's a less than good sign when a followup to nintendo land feels like a better system seller than most of them (in all fairness i think that could comfortably rival the peaks of the wii series on a console with a far higher potential install base)

There are more New 3DS exclusives than PS5 exclusives lol. But yes, lets combine them together. I still dont think its Xenoblade because its kind of a messy port.
i agree, it was a victory to get it on the 3ds but quite a pyrrhic one given the extreme limitations even as an exclusive to the enhanced hardware. still it was an easy meme vote though lol

i might change my vote by the end, i haven't decided on what to yet though... i'd had stuff like the aforementioned sonic all stars transformed, mk7 and also ace combat 3d on my mind

(sonic transformed runs like absolute hot garbage on 3ds though, and i'm not fully convinced that either of the others is a good pick really)

as someone who really likes altaria i actually am still amazed it ever got a mega, especially while flygon didn't. the gap in their popularity is colossal. i felt it was in the running for the least popular fully evolved mon in gen 3, along with the likes of medicham, swalot, grumpig, masquerain and cradily (which i also like personally for the most part, but, y'know)

i was skim checking the comments after my last post on the prior topic and i noticed some talk about 2014's anime, and since that was one of the years i watched a decent amount(https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/b/bb581ae9.png) i figured i might as well say what my favourites that year were

i get it wasn't for everyone by then but liked the conclusion to initial d a lot and still consider it a ways better than mf ghost s1 at a minimum
yama no susume s2 is a top 10 anime season for me of anything so that alone definitely carries the year for me
madoka clones as they may have been, yuuki yuuna and selector infected+spread wixoss were both amazing imo
kawai complex was legit tbh
mekakucity was also a strong showing and underappreciated given it was still in the middle of peak monogatari years (and nisekoi was there too i guess)
wake up girls is still one of the most uniquely worthwhile idol anime and it deserved a lot better at the time (even if it fell off in quality hard past s2)
a lot of anticipated shows of the time fell off in due course, such as aldnoah, terror in resonance, trinity seven, mahouka, black bullet, tokyo ghoul, glasslip, (maybe) m3, and chaika... but some were still at least solid even while underperforming, which is why i'm not putting akame ga kill, shingeki no bahamut or noragami in the same category personally (i get others definitely would disagree though)
besides yamasusu s2, while 2014 did lack the presence of stuff like kiniro mosaic or non non biyori on the cgdct/iyashikei front, it did also have gochiusa and somewhat unique productions like hanayamata and sora no method to make up for it

and short anime had arguably their peak year then, with ai mai mii s2, both seasons of strange+, hacka doll and tesagure s2 all among my favourites in that niche, even if one DOESN'T of course count yamasusu s2 lol (and they're unlikely to ever leave that upper eschelon given the state of modern short anime...)

on the ova side, the japan animator expo series brought about a lot of great pilots, and the young animator training project then known as anime mirai also had a strong year then too (even if the projects then never got the recognition little witch academia or death billiards did). it was a bit of a nothing year for feature length films though, outside of marnie and expelled from paradise if you want to be exceedingly generous (i wouldn't even be putting it in the discussion as a key film release if not for the sequel tbh)

building further on my comment (more biased commentary i'll spoiler to avoid trying to influence votes incoming) the big reason i somehow ended up neglecting to directly touch on before on why i felt an mmo was notable is because among the many ways the wii was a terrible option for one, its netcode being complete and utter dogshit compared to the ps3 and 360 (even if, again, technically still demonstratably "viable" thanks to the likes of pso and arguably also ffxi before them, never mind the fact that they needed adapters lol) was a crucial point. the amount of headaches i can imagine development must've caused at the time makes me really wonder why they didn't just jump ship to solely working on the wii u version at a moment's notice. heck, even the fact that they didn't cancel it and only release the wii u version at the time was wild, it was right before its release.

i do think that wii spearheading motion controls did give a valid reason to consider games that put said tech to actually impressive use (especially given the advantages wiimotes still hold in several areas over the likes of joycons), the one real issue is not much of that is really at the top of the pile here past that, as many of the more experimental stuff was just remarkably limited on the control front because of it (often only playable in one control style, or else practically only)

of course, considering that most of the real technological advantages the wii had over the gamecube were the larger disc sizes, it's not really super fair to say its games should've been any looking better than they did lol. it was a low budget shovelware library system for reasons beyond just its successfully marketed gimmicks, there was just that little reason to push it given how blatantly far behind it was for its time

in light of that, it's another reason i think the fact that SE decided an mmo was worth pursuing on the system at all is a noteworthy outlier, even if it wasn't the most advanced on the market. sure, there wasn't much doubt that it could handle one given the gamecube had pso, but there was really no reason to put in the work to make one for the wii of all things in its generation, let alone to continue prioritising its development through two further expansions (well okay, square was also still supporting ps2 ffxi so it's not that out there but still, ps2 was actively comparable to it in performance right down to the disc space lol and there were reasons to optimise its (non-gimmick) hardware. heck the sheer novelty value of ffxi on ps2 kicking on more than likely lead it to hold onto a larger playerbase through the 2010s than dqx did even in just japan, probably)

figured i'd mention i was contemplating other alternative options like smg 1/2, sonic colors, dkc returns, skyward sword, and also the last story, but due to their largely linear design they didn't really justify being taken over xenoblade imo (it's probably not a big surprise but colors had the overall edge among them slightly for me). i also thought a bit about ones like brawl (for how much content it had), mkwii (for having much better netcode), certain gamecube ports such as new play control pikmin 1 or 2 and re4 (for the quality of their controls), and i also thought about prime 3 and also prime trilogy, and if not for the fact that i realised that dqx beat it out handily in size and scope i probably would've gone with trilogy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk8xp3-mAS4 since i didn't actually do a good job of defending the mage one i figured i'd share a bit of the mage one

one thing i also like about its particular isekai dynamic is that the isekai'd guy is someone directly killed by a member of the family he reincarnates into ithink (so it's not an actual isekai), though it's not a revenge plot or anything like that, he just happened to be some random nut who was obsessed with magic and is more than happy to get a body with superior genes to further his studies lol

not a series that thrives on its plot by any means and it's not konosuba level entertainment but i would classify it as one of the decent ones at least

also i might as well elaborate on re:monster and say that the protag of that had an [redacted for concerns over site rules] with i think every female character in the show by the end of ep3 and that's why i said what i did. a lot of murder happens too

oh i decided to do a runthrough of all the bad isekais a couple of days ago just to see if there's any worth continuing

Re:Monster was certainly something, having made it to the end of the third episode. I thought it was interesting to see a series do the same thing as that farming isekai and basically just have the protagonist describe what they'd done in effectively diary form, and even in this presumably relatively sanitised adaptation, one could still tell that this couldn't have been much further from that one in terms of tone lol

Archdemon's Dilemma was a standard master-servant fantasy romance series, it's fine i guess? So far it seems like it's teetering on the edge of deciding whether or not it wants to be a harem series or not, with the most noteworthy aspect being that virtually every relevant harem candidate shares the same backstory of being somebody the protag previously saved in pretty much the same way lol

the Lv2 Cheat Powers anime was exactly standard fare bad, but i guess it had monaca-esque op/eds so it wasn't a complete waste to check it. Side note, this got me wondering what hidekazu tanaka had gotten up to as of late and i guess he's in jail now. "oops"

Banished Former Hero may be in the running for worst anime adaptation of the year tbh. in a way it actually managed to get to the point of being so bad it's enjoyable though. or maybe the shouta aoi voices just got to me, who knows. i love how immediately everyone just knows he's the strongest character in the show, despite having provided all of the obligatory "yeah he's totally the weakest guy ever with 0 abilities" backstory

the mage one (Reincarnated as the 7th Prince or whatever) was cool... well, it's not really a very interesting series, but the protag is fun and carries it on some level

i didn't get on sequels or i think one other one yet

i did also start on Loser Ranger though, not sure how i feel about it yet but at the very least its OP and ED look cool

also i undropped highspeed etoile and it's not my least favourite show of the season any more lol (i bumped it up from a 1/5 to a 2/5 by the end of episode 3)
