This might be a terrible idea, but I can think of a lot of answers that never saw the light of day, so we're gonna see what happens. For science. Try to give a response that wasn't given in the first batch of responses.

In total, that's Out of Action, Out of Africa, Out of Bounds, Out of Control, Out of Left Field, Out of Line, Out of Money, Out of Nowhere, Out of Options, Out of Order, Out of Paper, Out of Pocket, Out of Reach, Out of Sight, Out of Slate (?), Out of Space, Out of Ten, Out of the Blue, Out of the Box, Out of the Darkness, Out of the Frying Pan (in 3 variations), Out of the Park, Out of the Shadows, Out of Thin Air, Out of This World, Out of Time, and Out of Touch.

If you don't feel like checking the list or thinking of something original, just give an answer that wasn't your response from yesterday.

I wouldn't care, except there is an element of recency to that information that could be important.

Anyway, my brain is not churning out any great ideas other than maybe OoParts, so you get 2 Genshin songs. Enjoy.

Genshin Impact - Nippy Bout
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rS1nHRFvbw

Genshin Impact - Irresistible Force
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDmE9taqiVs

Neither are especially like Caelestinium Finale Termini, but I'm not sure precisely what about that song you like, so I'm not going to try to match that. Other considerations included Symphony of Boreal Wind, All-Conquering Tide, Burst Into Flames, and The Immovable God & the Eternal Euthymia, so feel free to look those up on your own if you like.

I find it uncanny how divergent our VGMC voting patterns have been lately, considering in an era before compatibility tracking was a thing, I thought you were the person I used to have the highest compatbility with. And the top 100 VGM list bears that out pretty strongly, as there are a ton of tracks on there I am completely nodding my head to. Anyway, we'll see how well I can hit the overlap zone.

Wyvia - Monster World Arena
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj8vXKejj9c

One Must Fall 2097 - Menu
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0FNUDLdT4A

Beat Saber - Escape
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DAZwsSbaqM

and I'll have two more for you once I manage to focus on my playlists rather than just zoning out and enjoying the music. (BTW, your favorites list is from May '22.)

So an update: I bought Dragon Age Inquisition for $4 on Steam...and ended up returning it due to nonsense with the EA app. Seemed like it was going to be an enjoyable game, and then it just refused to load after my first couple play sessions. Was past the 2 hour mark, but Steam still accepted my refund request.

Feels cheap as hell to refund a $4 game, but if it's not going to work, I'm not going to pay for it.

I think Jean still has uses even if you have Xiayun. Jean has shorter animationsn and much more quick swappy playstyle.

As a pure healer, I prefer Jean to Xianyun. Birdmom has two important assets -- overworld mobility and enabling plunge teams -- but if you're just looking for someone to heal your Furina team, Jean does that just as well and her heal is frontloaded, which means more initial fanfare stacks. She also leaves an area field behind, which means you're getting more coverage for VV. Plus, there's Sunfire if that's your thing.

I'm in the same boat with Dehya being the only one I don't have, though a free Jean con to get closer to C4 might be nice, too.

That list is actually super nice for someone like me who has trouble remembering what we might have had. I think most 90 PC games at home were my dad's and thus I don't have them and I have revisited almost nothing since.

This is why I left them in, rather than just deleting the rest.

It certainly wasn't to get into an arms race with someone who seems to think Dreamcast can in any way compete.

Listen you can crow about how many great things exist on 90s PC and make this bloated list of honorable mentions to prove your point

a) I didn't make that list to argue with you. You'll note that I posted before you did (post 19) about how I was having trouble choosing. I was in the midst of compiling my thoughts when you started posting.
b) The list isn't bloated. There are some irrelevant options on there that I agree don't make a mainstream list, but for every one of those, there's a legit option I left off like Planescape, Myst, Age of Empires, Thief, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Worms, Grim Fandango, or System Shock. This is to say nothing of a myriad of sequels that I didn't bring up.

You're talking about a platform that is really more like a whole category of them. 10 years of gaming, spanning from late NES games to what may as well be early PS2. There's no way Dreamcast can compete with all that.

Now, I'm not saying Dreamcast isn't worthy of having a list. You can have a Dreamcast list. I don't care either way, although I certainly won't be able to come up with 20 for it, but don't pretend that there are as many classic titles on Dreamcast as there are on an entire decade of computer gaming.

It's not 1000:1, but it's definitely not 1:1, either. I think you'd need to be a bit more explicit in how you define what's "relevant," because things that will garner any degree of attention on the board is very different than "would have done well in a site contest."

2 hour video? Hot damn anyone got the TLDR version of what it covered?

The first hour is skippable, and the last half-hour isn't actually livestream.

Natlan is coming.
New characters are Mualani and Kinich, with Kuchina as a free 4-star.
New artifacts and weapons, plus a mechanic called Nightsoul.
Every tribe is associated with a Pokemon.
Pyro traveler will not be immediately available because story reasons.

Whole bunch of quality of life improvements, like being able to see where local specialties are without tabbing out to the interactive map.
Anniversary rewards will be about the same as usual EXCEPT that we will now be able to also select a free standard banner 5-star. This will be an annual occurrence and there will be new standard banner 5-stars coming.
There will be a system added to the game that lets us craft our own artifacts by choosing a set, a main stat, and two of the substats. The material required to do this is very limited.
New player catch-up mechanics.

Did I miss anything?

How much do we know about the artifact forming mechanic?

Namely, I'm interested in (a) how easily acquired are the materials to perform it, and (b) what are the limitations on it? I know there's something about a limited number of times per cycle.

I know they couldn't possibly make it too good because this will undermine the incentive players have to log in daily. Artifacts were the one mechanic that more or less prompted players to keep coming back in the pursuit of improvement after everything else was done. So while this sounds amazing, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to fall.

To my surprise, I'm actually feeling Castle of Sand more.

I *think* it's winning regardless.

1) Is it better to not revive characters and keep putting in job newbies to be used as bodies, perhaps, to place in front of your more experienced characters as protection?
or
2) Is it better to revive all characters without exception, and have a more experienced team throughout the game?

Personally, I think FFT kinda sucks with newbies, but the other half of your answer is that you should always revive characters. Note that you can salvage them by simply finish the battle within 3 turns before they turn to crystal rather that actually rezzing them.

Depends on the game and my mood.

Historically, my attitude toward games has been "if you can't kill me, I can't lose." So I would either play a ranged class or a healer. More recently, I've found myself gravitating more toward melee classes, but it really depends on the game and especially if it harkens back to something I've played before. I picked the ranged class in Diablo 4. I picked the mage in DA:I. But when I restarted Dungeon Siege a couple nights ago, I went with a hybrid melee/nature magic until I got a couple other people in the party.

I had an urge to revisit the original Dungeon Siege. I played it for about 2 hours, and quickly realized that the camera controls, as well as a few QOL issues, were going to make it very difficult for me to stomach in 2024. But I miss the idea of Dungeon Siege. So I'm asking if anyone has any suggestions that I can access on PC.

For the uninitiated, Dungeon Siege started you with a character who would fight their way past enemies by using either Melee, Ranged, Combat Magic, or Nature Magic. Rather than an overall experience-and-class system, these individual categories would level from usage, like if the Elder Scrolls only had four skills and no levels. You could multi-class, though it usually wasn't super helpful to do so. But you'd eventually pick up party members who would complement your skills, up to eight in total. The world felt a little like what Diablo would be if it were hand-crafted rather than procedural, with ambushes you'd need to fight past, but also lots of fun secrets. The combat was not super deep, focusing more on positions and giving general team orders during real-time (but pausable) battle. The strong focus on discovery and always encountering something around each corner is part of what kept the game fresh. I won't say no to a good story, but it's completely optional here.

To try to quantify what makes something more like Dungeon Siege than other games I've played:

  • Diablo is a little too hands-on with the action. I appreciate that DS lets you watch the character do their thing without having to click-click-click. It's also single character, though that's not a dealbreaker. Diablo clones are fine. I like them. But I've also already played PoE, Grim Dawn, Torchlight, etc.
  • Neverwinter Nights and Pillars of Eternity are a bit too CRPG for me. I like a game to have depth, but not to feel like I need to read an entire D&D manual first.
  • Dragon Age: Origins (I haven't played the others in the series) is maybe just a smidge too tactical, though it's probably the closest of the games I've played. I also like that Dungeon Siege had one continuous (albeit very linear) world.
  • Divinity: Original Sin 1&2 are turn-based. I'm not looking for an actual TRPG. In addition to being mechanically dense, it's also much slower. So while I'm sure BG3 is great, it's not what I'm looking for.
  • Dragon's Dogma felt really cumbersome. I like some of the things it was doing, but the execution left a lot to be desired. (And yes, I've played basically every Bethesda game, as well as Cyberpunk.)
There is a Dungeon Siege 2, of course, which is also okay. Different vibe to some of the mechanics and the world-feel, but I might just download that. Still, I'd like to think there's something in this vein that's come out since 2005. Hopefully something that's not a slog to control, too, which most of these games are.

So, uh, on that note, how's Inquisition? Only game I can think of that might come close and it's on sale rn.

Last night, I was laying in bed unable to sleep, and I realized, "wait, I didn't post a new topic."

That was not enough incentive to boot up my computer and tabulate the results, though.

Given the way people tend to talk ill of Chrono Cross, I would not have expected it to place above some of the more venerable classics already revealed on this list. I know it just got a remaster, but the consensus I had always heard was "amazing soundtrack but incredibly lackluster game."
