Yeah thanks as always. I didn't help with any write ups this time except with some reposts but I do still think this is the best running topic series on the board today.

Uncharted 2 had me super skeptical after Uncharted 1 but it's a worthy winner. Still not a favorite game by any stretch, but it's actually good and I did give it +3 or +2 here

Also thanks a bunch all you freebie Genesis nominations and especially Charon for securing 3 which is as many as I got

Hell yeah Valkyria Chronicles. Best PS3 game.

I don't think it leaned into anime too much at all. For me the game was just enough anime-- and I actually greatly prefer the JP Voice Acting for that reason (also because a few of my favorite characters like Maximilian and Edy sound way better in JP). Now VC2 definitely leaned harder into it and that was to its detriment, but I like some mild anime tropes, which is what I feel the game has.

Really fun and a ton of style. My only real beef is the control scheme to me feels a little awkward-- like it functions but I dunno think it holds the game back. A newer entry with a bit less of a shoulder mounted camera would probably have me super hyped though cause I like the game a lot, and I like the concept and style even more.

Trading 3 noms for Genesis Rhapsodos

Well this is going to be a pretty boring update. This is the first set of sidequests I feel was honestly way too much. I think it's partially because there was no real like, new stuff. You weren't being introduced to new characters or locations. It was just rehash of the old places you've already been but with different characters than the first time. This honestly may have been my new least favorite chapter. Definitely second worst.

I hated that the Corneo Key quest had one of the keys need you to go into the sewers. I was like... "well you advance the main quest I don't wanna go there yet" so I'm like straining my brain to think of where you went to get into the sewer from the other end. Speaking of the Corneo Keyquest I'm glad Tifa was the one who said "you're the Angel of the Slums!?!?" to the old lady because at least I can headcanon that Cloud knew for a long time (Tifa wasn't present)

Also they threw in a ton more arena fights. I guess it had a lot of loot and they were fun but man. Is this really the right place to introduce them? And then the box breaking kids thing, pull ups, it just dangles so much stuff. I was pleasantly surprised some of the sidequests were not as fetchy as expected at least. Like the 5 kids was like "oh kill this ghost boss" and they died.

The one positive thing about this segment is the Wrecking Ball weapon makes Barret actually fun to use. And effective. I had Barret as my main character for a lot of these quests because like... lining up two+ enemies to start the fight, using Overrun and then following up with the Smackdown move is super fun, and Maximum Fury is just an entertaining move in general though how his a glove shooting bullets well whatever.

But on the plus side it all got done I think. Well basically. I just finished the boss fight in the sewer after Leslie tries to get revenge on Corneo and bungles it. That was a super exciting win because his super flood the area attack KOed Cloud and Tifa and I have no HP and no ATB as Barret, but neither does he and he's recovering... I just OVERRUN that guy and MAXIMUM FURY off the gained meter and the result...

Clutchest win ever by Barret. Barret was literally at 1 hp from poison ticking down. Other two were KOed and the guy was getting up. Just enough damage. You don't see that kinda thing often in an RPG I am a big fan.

So I still need to finish the main quest in Chapter 14, give Marle the 3 gem tiaras and beat Leviathan but we're almost at actually advancing the plot again. Happy day.

A lot of people talking about this game aging

I'd probably have rated this game a 4 as a kid too. I didn't have the patience to actually grind enough to beat it until I was in my 20s even though I reached basically the endgame when I was like 10.

It's basically the textbook definition of an extremely consistent 4/10 game for me. It's kinda just a playable time killer but not very enjoyable at any point. Other games will get a 4 for a combination of highs and lows-- this game doesn't do any of that and is just plodding mediocrity personified the whole time you play it.
