I'd argue the Old Testament (apologies I haven't read the Torah), makes more sense when you realise these 2 distinct voices are there.

It's an interesting tale of the fusion of an imported storm/warrior god Yahweh, and the father/creator god of Canaan El.

Wouldn't claim to have great knowledge of the archaeology and theology of this process, and the sublimation of various consorts and subsidiary gods into one focus of belief of course, but it's a fascinating area to dig into occasionally.

A lot of you really don't seem to understand how useless toddlers are.

We paid a high price for the large brain, advanced tool making, and social intelligence. That price was a very long period of nurture required for offspring before they can survive without adults.

If we were talking 7 year olds, maybe even 6, there's a shot they could organise and defend themselves. Toddlers are helpless.

Kinda waiting on informed takes from lawyers, it seems pretty bad though.

As I understand it, illegal executive orders can now not be straight blocked, but have to be individually appealed (or class actioned) for each case.

Console wise, the first home game system we had was a Tandy (Radio Shack in the US I think). It could run Pong, Motocross and Lightgun games with appropriate peripherals that came included.

By the 80s consoles weren't big over here, for us it was the home computer era. Popular systems included the BBC Micro, the Sinclair ZX 80, 81, and Spectrum, with the American Commodore 64 later making an appearance.

It's an inconvenience when your economy is in shambles because you've lived under a repressive regime for 70+ years... Don't think anyone is prioritizing missile development under those circumstances. In fact they played a good bargaining chip and transferred the nuclear weapons back to Russia in exchange for financial benefits in addition to the security guarantees.

I'm sure it did look like a good deal at the time.

Current events rather suggest it wasn't though. No particular criticism is intended, hindsight is 20/20 after all and Russia's posture was very different at the time.

You are making a big assumption that they did.

They have developed such capability.

Initially they did not do so due to Russia guaranteeing their security.

I would generally expect more countries to develop such independent capability, since the promises of the established great powers have become much less reliable of late.

I doubt it was some kind of deliberate show of disrespect. Much more likely that it was just slipshod and hastily thrown together.

Plus a lack of institutional knowledge.

The US Army doesn't have a history of this kind of parade, so they can't just grab last year's admin instruction and use that as a guide for the training and rehearsal schedule.

There won't be much relevant experience in the Officer or NCOs either. Not just in drill but in more prosaic preparations as well.

If you want dress uniforms, you need to get troops to the tailors months in advance for fittings/alterations etc. Troops may also need training in bulling boots etc and inspections need to be held to ensure that required standards are being met.

There are potentially a lot of moving parts to a parade like this, many of which happen down at JNCO level.

It probably shouldn't surprise that a parade put on by units with no tradition of doing them and therefore no institutional knowledge of what it takes might not necessarily have been gleaming.

Should it become a tradition, I imagine the usual post event debriefings etc will highlight issues encountered and improvements that might be made resulting in year on year improvements to the standard.

Or maybe it will be a one off, who knows?

I haven't watched Trump's birthday parade but there are a couple of issues potentially in play here.

1. I have seen quite a few troops over the years struggle to march in time to music (it's usually a slower pace than they are used to).

Generally this is solved by preparation, drill lessons with the drum, rehearsing the parade etc.

Naturally I have no idea to what extent Trump's parade was trained for and rehearsed.

2. Distance between the troops/band and the camera/microphone.

Sound is a lot slower than light, and so distant troops can often look out of time to the music. This effect can be compounded in a large parade where some formations may also be a considerable distance from the nearest band.

Like I said though, I didn't watch it. It's not impossible that it was a bit shoddy.

Depends on the nature of the difficulty.

Difficulty can be fair, requiring the player to understand various systems and abilities to progress for example.

Some difficulty is more arbitrary, requiring arbitrary stats or level knowledge that the player could not have known.

These things are not the same.

The balance envisioned by the creator is part of the experience. It's part of gameplay, which should always be the first consideration in video game development.

I might advocate for lower difficulty levels to aid accessibility, but I'm not yet at the stage I'd choose them, nor do I think they should be default.

I had fun with it, some of the boss fights were astonishing cinema.

I also didn't replay it, take from that what you will.

I'm a bit ambivalent about these topics.

On the one hand, accessibility is not a dirty word, no movie skill checks you to see if you are worthy to see the ending after all.

Many enjoyers of video games may also have physical disabilities or have simply aged beyond the requirements of old that stipulated level memory, practice, and razor sharp reactions that classic titles required.

Personally I see no great issue in presenting the player with a variety of difficulty options, but offering bonuses to those opting for higher challenge levels.

Unfortunately that does mean you're a character in Attack on Titan.

That's the point, plenty of people in the military are getting on a bit and have injured themselves over the years. And a lot of work in offices, in welfare, in the stores doesn't need a monstrously fit young man, but might benefit from experience.

Those combat arm requirements are also about what I'd expect (although no infantry unit I ever met would be happy with the base level of achievement).
