Here, our National Insurance (I think equivalent to US Social Security) and tax is deducted straight from our pay, our employers are required to pay our tax to the government on our behalf.

Only if we have any additional income or you're business owner then we file our earnings and pay any additional taxes which the individual is responsible for paying.

Is it done similarly in the US or do you have a different system?

Kinda similar. Id youre employed, you have taxes taken out of each paycheck for federal taxes, state taxes, and a few other programs. And like you said, self-employed people pay their own taxes, typically through quarterly estimates on what they owe.

Where we may differ is that we all then need to do our taxes by a specific deadline each year (mid-April). The amounts taken out for us are estimates, as the actual figures may be higher or lower than what was paid due to a number of factors. So when we do our taxes, we either need to pay more by the deadline or we get a tax refund. And you might get a federal refund, but need to pay additional state taxes, vice versa, get refunds on both or pay extra on both.

Trust me, I cant stand Trump. But he didnt tell people to drink bleach. Early in the pandemic, he hypothesized methods to fight COVID-19, and this is what he said (these comments by him show a complete ignorance on basic concepts). In his ramblings, he started questioning of there is a way to get the things that were known to kill the virus (UV light and disinfectants) into the body. But it was him asking doctors some stupid questions on what could be done - he never said to drink bleach:

A question that probably some of you are thinking of if youre totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether its ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasnt been checked, but youre going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said youre going to test that, too. Sounds interesting, right?

And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so itd be interesting to check that, so that youre going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, well see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. Thats pretty powerful.

It wouldnt be through injections, almost a cleaning and sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesnt work, but it certainly has a big effect if its on a stationary object.

How? You need the airship to get to Bahamut.

Wait, my bad, youre right - I was thinking about how you can find the tail before getting the airship, but you do need the airship to do the promotions.

Ive done solo runs with all characters, and you pretty much need to go to the Citadel Of Trials after getting the canoe, as there are treasures there that can to multi-enemy attacks, like the gauntlets. Otherside, the room in the ice cave that has 9 undead monsters, each of which can paralyze you (and you need to do the fight twice) can absolutely wreck you if you just try to defeat them one on one.

My bad. Got my facts mixed up.

Yeah, the game is fairly linear until you beat Lich. After that, go as you please. You can even get the class chance before you get the airship if you prefer.

I think the list is at least interest, with how they weave some old stuff with a lot of newer stuff. I dont agree with various parts, but it isnt my list.

With that said placing NBA 2K11 and Madden 2003 at #33 and #18 felt seemed bizarre, especially considering some of the powerhouse games that they beat out.

TopicHow Do I Apply For Moderator
The_Popo
01/06/25 4:04:23 PM
#19
It is found on the site. Here is the copy and paste:

### The Grand Process of Becoming a Moderator on GameFAQs

I. The Rationale of Selection

Harken, ye who wouldst fain hold dominion oer the great halls of GameFAQs! To become a Moderator of the realm, thou must first prove thyself worthy, not by coin or sword, but through wit and wisdom. 'Tis no light undertaking, for the Moderatorship is a mantle of great responsibility, wherein one doth guide and judge, shield and maintain, amidst the battlements of heated forum discourse.

The first step, dear aspirant, is to submit thyself to the Council of the Noteworthy, a gathering of seasoned veterans who shall deliberate upon thy application. They shall scrutinize thy record upon the forums: art thou a learned scholar of the game? Hast thou shown thyself respectful and noble in all thy dealings? If thy reputation be sullied, thy path shall be blocked, for no Moderator may bear the tarnish of ill conduct.

II. The Ritual of the Trials

Once thou hast been deemed worthy of further consideration, the next stage doth unfold: The Trials of Moderation. These trials shall test thy mettle, not with sword or axe, but with skill in the ancient arts of forum moderation.

  1. The Trial of Patience: Thou shalt endure a series of vexatious queries from the peasantrythose simple souls who doth post without thought. Shouldst thou maintain thy composure, replying with wisdom and poise, thou shalt pass this test.
  2. The Trial of Discernment: A great volume of posts shall be placed before thee. Some shall be fit for the noble game of discussion, whilst others are foul with the pestilence of spam. Thy task is to discern which must be struck down with the mighty hammer of deletion, and which shall be left untouched.
  3. The Trial of Banishment: A dark power lurks within the landthe banhammer. Thou must, under the watchful eye of the Council, banish a soul who hath broken the sacred rules of GameFAQs. But fear not! Thy hand must be just, for the hammer must only fall upon the truly wicked, not upon those who have merely erred in their ways.

III. The Gathering of the Twelve Seals

Shouldst thou pass the Trials, thou must now partake in the Gathering of the Twelve Seals, a sacred assembly whereupon twelve ancient seals shall be placed before thee. Each seal represents a different aspect of the Moderators power, from Might of the Banhammer to Wisdom of the Rules. Thou must choose three seals with great care, for the seals thou dost select shall dictate thy style of moderation. The remaining seals shall be returned to the Council to await the next aspirant.

IV. The Rite of Chess

Alas, just as thou dost think thou hast achieved victory, a new and most perilous test emerges from the shadows: The Rite of Chess. A messenger shall appear before thee bearing an ancient scroll, which contains a challenge not of words, but of strategy. This challenge shall take the form of a game of chessagainst a Sphinx.

This Sphinx, a creature half-human, half-beast, is renowned across all the lands for its mastery of the game. To face it is to face the very essence of riddle and strategy, for the Sphinx doth play not with common sense, but with wits sharp as blades. The rules are simple: Thou must win the game, or answer a riddle so difficult that the gods themselves wouldst quail.

But beware! Shouldst thou lose the match, thy soul is forfeit. The Sphinx shall take it to the depths of the great forum, and thou shalt never again moderate nor post on GameFAQs.

V. The Path of the Unseen

Shouldst thou succeed, the final trial looms. Thou must enter the Hall of Forgotten Threads, a dark and silent place where the oldest posts lie in decay. There, thou must uncover the Sacred Post of the One True Answer. No mortal has ever seen this post, for it is said to exist outside of time, and only those of pure heart and resolute mind can find it.

Thou must search through the threads, pausing only when the air grows thick with uncertainty, for therein lies the answer to the ultimate question: What is the meaning of GameFAQs? The answer may be hidden within a single post, or it may be scattered across many. Once thou hast discovered it, thou must speak aloud the answer, and the Oracle of Forums, an ancient being that watches over GameFAQs, shall pronounce thee worthy.

VI. The Final Challenge: The Dance of the Mods

Ah, but lo, the process doth not yet conclude! In the twilight hours, when all others have departed, thou must face the Dance of the Mods. This is no mere ceremonial jig, mind thee, but a dance of power and prestige, conducted upon the sacred stage of GameFAQs.

The Dance shall be witnessed by all those who have been chosen as Moderators in the past, and thou must outshine them in grace, rhythm, and flair. Only by mastering this waltz shall thou truly embody the spirit of the Moderator, and ascend to thy rightful place among them.

VII. The Reward

Upon completion of these trials, thou shalt be crowned, not with a laurel wreath, but with the Golden Badge of the Moderator. Thine name shall be etched into the annals of GameFAQs forevermore, and thou shalt be granted dominion over the forums, with the power to wield the Banhammer, guide the lost souls, and protect the realm from all who wouldst defile its peace. Furthermore, thine palette shall be blessed with a one-time offering of a succulent lamb, served upon the Forbidden Husk of Grand Elder CJayC, fore his essence shall nourish you forevermore.

And thus, thy journey to Moderatorship is complete, though never shall it end, for as the forums grow and change, so too must thou adapt, ever vigilant in thy role, and ever watchful for the next challenger to rise against thee.

This is a continuation of my previous topic.

Basically, my friends always comment that I havent seen a buncha movies that the rest of the world has already seen. I think Ive made good strides at seeing a lot more movies that are must see, but I still get crap for it.

So Im asking that everyone list 5 movies that they think are must see movies that most people have seen. The first movie that gets listed 3 times that I havent seen will be the movie I watch (pending that it is easily accessible).

If a movie is listed 3 times and I have seen it already, I will make it known. And I am rolling over the movies that got 3 votes in the previous topic - so these movies are ineligible:

3 Votes and I must watch
Airplane! (Watched on Jan 5th)
Casablanca (Watched on Jan 5th)

3 Votes (but Ive seen it)
Back to the Future
The Godfather
The Great Mouse Detective
The Princess Bride
Pulp Fiction
Shawshank Redemption

All movies that had less than 2 nominations in the prior topic are being reset.

If you want to see the nominations that had been made in the previous topic, here it is:

I watched Airplane! and Casablanca today. My thoughts:

Airplane! - Solid. For an older movie, I didnt expect to laugh as much as I did. The jokes are nonstop, so while a lot arent laugh-out-loud material, they are still pretty clever. Really liked the reoccurring joke of people saying Whats that? when the last thing mentioned was something like a hospital or a cockpit. Kareem was good. Loved the old woman who spoke jive. Overall, Id definitely recommend it.

Casablanca - I didnt really know what it was about prior to starting it, all I really knew were some of the more famous lines (Heres looking at you kid, and This could be the start of a beautiful friendship). I also knew the song As Time Goes By from Looney Tunes cartoons, but didnt know that it was prominently featured in Casablanca. Good movie overall. Not one that I think Ill ever go back and rewatch, but I enjoyed it for its place in cinema history. It is also fascinating to see how well made movies could be from 80+ years ago.

If I do not get any more nominations in this topic over the new few minutes, Im going to close this topic and make a new one, so people can make fresh nominations. Any movies that have already received 3 votes will remain ineligible in a new topic.

New topic is here:

Everyone in here is talking about sorceress this and time compression that. Ultimately, its a love story about a moody young man and a woman who is into him solely for his good looks.

Yeah but you can kind of see the foundation of the Switch in the Wii U. It was a risk that failed on its own, but I imagine there was lessons learned that led to the Switchs success

There were hints of it, sure. But that wasnt really my point. I was saying how Nintendo has been innovative with their consoles for several generations now due to prior generations shortcomings (or in the case of the Wii, it doing very well initially, but finishing weakly), but this upcoming generation is the first one since the Nintendo 64 where Nintendo doesnt necessarily need to be innovative. They having a winning formula and just need to build off it.
