I think they'd have been fine. Again Cedric was likely not ever considered to be part of the plan to begin with and it would have still been Harry versus Wormtail so it was likely designed to catch him off guard and in a potential weakened or injured state which gives them a better shot at the plan. --- "He may be Mr. Clean, but his soul will always be dirty!"
