My roster is pretty dire and I could probably make use of Firefly or a second limited Harmony, but at this point I should probably just wait for 3.0, huh.

Rina is super bad unless you're running a Shock team or have her M1. Ellen really likes Lyacon (or Lighter) so not using him if you have one is leaving damage on the table. Looks like the blessing for this round of Shiyu really incentives Stun too.

I'd build DPS Ben but with Miyabi and allegedly free Harumasa I just will straight up not have the resources. Building Lighter already got me from 2 mil dennies to under 500k, and I'm not even done with drives and talents yet.

I spent most of the double drop days this week farming EXP books + money cards lol. Back up to 2 mil dennies which is probably enough for like one character.

Yeah my fear was never that she'd be weak but that they are being weirdly restrictive with the type of teams she's good in. Like this update in particular people are overreacting to, because we also found out they buffed her Disorder damage which makes her a lot better in dual anomaly teams, which is how they clearly want you to play her.

...which is why it's still pretty shitty her core skill doesn't get turned on by anomaly but OH WELL

Yeah the more I think about it the less I think DLCs should be excluded. The age of the "expansion pack" is mostly dead and there's not a great way to judge except based on vibes. DLCs are released alongside and compete with other games and should be judged with their contemporaries. Like idk, if devs are still putting in the work, they should be part of the conversation. If anything a separate category just for expansions doesn't go far enough, there actually should be a category that includes both original releases and expansions, whether that needs to be GOTY or a third category I dunno. Kind of like how the Grammys has Song of the Year that goes to the artist but also Record of the Year that awards it to everyone on the production staff of the song.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, still bummed about it. I truly don't understand. Even after the changes her kit still wants Disorders, so she wants an Anomaly unit, so why make her teams harder to build by requiring a Support? It screws over Lighter (and Caesar!), and I guess points to them wanting players to invest in future units instead of relying on past ones, but why make one of the most hyped up units less appealing to do that? Not to mention I don't see Lighter's purpose is now with only two Attack units that really fit, I still want him but it's not like I'm going to pull for Ellen.

They do expand on it, it's just not a huge plot point. But you get the pieces of what's actually going on here and there.

If you have Caesar and S11 you're probably good to go. The trickiest floor might be 6 which really wants physical on both sides because the electric side resists fire, but Caesar alone is probably enough to clown on Doppelganger Jane, she's sooo soft to getting parried.

Seth is probably a good character to build for you too, since you can run Jane/Seth/Caesar which is still really strong and frees Burnice to do other things

like as an example here's my teams for the final 3 nodes. I had to constantly switch members for weakness/resistance reasons, and ended up with some pretty weird comps! But they all worked, Anomaly teams are very flexible.

I mean if you can just brute force the side that doesn't resist ice with Ellen/Lyacon/Soukaku then go for it. Hitting weakness is usually less important than avoiding resistance. I usually just throw Nekomata and Caesar at Ice/Ether stages.

IDK your roster but you have Burnice and Jane, right? Just because one side is weak to Fire/Phys doesn't mean you need both of them on that team, you can always give one to Grace.

Anby is doing pretty much nothing there unfortunately. I was able to make due with Grace/Rina by switching up the third member between Burnice and Piper depending on the weakness. The only one that didn't work for is Stage 5, which resists both Fire and Physical, but now that I'm actually looking at it it's on separate enemies; the wave 2 robot resists physical but the final wave enemies only resist fire, so I should just run Elec/Phys disorder. The other side is weak to Fire there so it should work out.

Really hope Harumasa ends up being free so I can actually run Grace in mono-electric without having to build Anton lol

Also good* news: she's getting her own unique disk drive set anyways

Goddamn this tower gets very brutal. Youre either a pro at dodge/counter or pulled Caesar and have a bit more breathing room if you mess up. Caesar is insanely valuable for this mode alone even

Another weird thing about her is that she wants to build Crit/Attack even though she's Anomaly. And specifically, she currently wants her crit rate at 100%. Naturally this means her sig is going to be much better than any other option. She's ZZZ Acheron.

Early Miyabi beta kit leaks indicate she is Ice, but her anomalies are "special" frostburn effects that stack with other disorders (including regular freeze?), and has a dot very similar to burn. Heavy Disorder focus. So like, "kind of" dual element in that it's Ice, but counts as a different element. 1.5 element lol.

Although, I think it's more likely she is just Ice but it's unique in some way. I don't know why they would need a different indicator for that though...

JFC floors 24 and 25 of the battle tower. This whole thing seems specifically designed to produce Caesar FOMO, but I have her and I'm still fighting for my god damn life out here. Ice/Ether floors are terrible for my lineup too. Rewards past floor 15 don't seem to matter much at least.

I think I'm taking the L and just accepting the A rank on Ambush 7. Think I could do it with another character or two built but my regular Shiyu teams aren't cutting it. Jane/Burnice team sweeps easily but I'm still stuck with Anby on my ZY team and even playing out of my god damn mind I can't avoid taking a few stray hits on her and its over for her by then.

Drop Zhu entirely and split up Jane and Burnice, there's absolutely no reason they need to both be on first side. I did Piper/Caesar/Lucy and Grace/Burnice/Rina, cleaned up with maybe 30s to spare. Seth can fill in for Caesar but if you don't have Grace I'm honestly not sure what the next best team for her would be (can't use Piper that side really).

But check the buffs for this cycle, triggering Burn or Shock fills the daze meter by 20% which is fucking insane and it felt like they might have also increased the total daze needed to compensate. Absolute worst case, Burnice probably outperforms Anby as a stunner in your Zhu team lmao.

edit: Ah shit you mean the defense one from last month, not the new Shiyu stages from this week. I got confused cause Ambush is only 5 stages. Yeah I dunno then

I was looking into building Seth while I wait for Lighter but man the F2P Defense wengines are soooo fucking bad. Because they made him an ATK scaler for some reason my best options are really to wait for him to be rate up so I can fish for his sig on weapon banner (ew) or pay $10 for the battlepass one (ew!). They gotta add some better options.

Yeah it felt to me that's the space they left open for themselves, especially with Catherina becoming ambassador at the very end. Frankly, for a game that is explicitly about fantasy politics, I was surprised that other nations or even the internal politics of the annexed states never entered the equation at all. I'd love to see them lean more into that.

As for where this ranks compared to the Persona games...I think it's top 2 based on gameplay and cast. They have done so much to streamline and improve the core loop and while this might not be many people's favorite cast out of the games, I think the characters have something for everyone. I honestly found it SO refreshing to get a Persona-style game where you have multiple adult characters in the party. The story I found to be pretty entertaining but the weakest thematically out of any of them...but ymmv on this. The tone is closest to P4 so I suspect people who rank that one highly will enjoy this one more.

I don't think it's the calendar: I honestly think there should have been less main story lol. It's by far the weakest part of the game. It takes up a ton of time. And the game is SO long and the plot is SO telegraphed that a lot of it becomes waiting around for stuff to happen. And yes I agree the writing dips after a certain point and just feels kinda perfunctory.

They seem to be leaving things open to a sequel...if we do I hope they focus more on the dungeon crawling. Persona + Etrian Odyssey is kind of a banger, those crossovers kinda missed the point but they were clearly on to something. Just let me go on road trips to dungeons with the gang.

Out of curiousity, what level were people when they hit the final boss? My team was mid to high 70s with their main Archetypes maxed and my setup felt pretty busted even on Hard.

First of all, my man Basillo on Royal Berserker alone is a one-man gamebreaker with the move that makes the enemy weak to Strike that chains endlessly with itself...load him up on Strike Boosts and Charge and he's hitting for 10k+. But Prince is also extremely boosted with the move that adds 4 turns. Also found a food item in my inventory that does the same thing...do both on a turn where you've stacked buffs and debunks and it's crazy

Endgame story spoilers I was so fucking mad when it was pointed out to me that it's "Eht Ria" because it's literally an Etrian Odyssey dungeon with FOEs

Yeah despite my complaints I think the plot is still fun to watch go down because the presentation is so strong. I just really think it's working against itself at a structural level.

And still, the character writing is consistently strong. The dungeon crawling is top notch. It's so easy to get over the weak aspects when it's nailing everything else.

I'm still wrapping up optional stuff for the end but my issue with the endgame plot isn't the pacing - which I think is good as it avoid dragging things out - but the extremely strange storytelling choice to broadly make the endgame revolve around a series of plot twists that aren't actually plot twists?

What I mean more specifically is stuff like Louis is dead! No he's not. Rella is evil! No she's not. The entire human/tribe backstory reveal has already been foreshadowed to the point of obviousness to the player by the dragon temple murals - it is only surprising to the characters who either can't understand them or just refuse to. Similarly the plan to just lie and pretend the protagonist is the prince is so fucking stupid it only makes sense if he turns out to secretly be an heir to the throne all along, which is exactly what happens albeit in a fairly creative way. Everything is set up to be a twist on a classic trope except it twists AGAIN to play the trope straight. It's so weird. As a result, it FEELS like the plot is spinning its wheels even as it's moving a mile a minute. Can't think of much else that does this.

Oh I forgot about the Void Hunters. I actually quite like some of those designs but I'm not sure if they're gonna be playable? Seems like a loooong ways off with how lore important they seem and probably some are bosses or villains.
