What's extra unfortunate about this to me is that the part with Aster at the end is the only part that feels rushed! The pacing of the game is perfectly fine up to that point - but the ending with Aster is just SO abrupt.

Eh. There's a couple of things I like. First of all, it has Blackquill, and Blackquill carries anything he's in. Means is a fun villain even if it was kinda obvious the entire case it was gonna be him. In general, I think the pacing of this case is great - it flies by and goes down really smoothly without having any slow parts or anything really bumpy.

But I dunno, it's just kind of okay. I found the murder scenario disappointing - the fact that someone did a copycat murder based on Juniper's script doesn't really come into play in any kind of way I find satisfying or cool. The "You're a goner!" thing and the whole "oh Robin's ACTUALLY a girl so it could be her voice?" strains credibility for me super hard. I basically never remember anything from the second half of the case at all until Means, it's all really forgettable. Just didn't like the cast or the murder much. It doesn't do anything for me.

Blackquill is the only person in the credits of both games he's in who isn't theoretically speaking to the "player" during his scenes. I wonder if they actually had somebody in mind for who he was speaking to, but we may never find out now.

Wow I never picked up on this before. Both of his ending scenes imply that he's talking to someone specific who we don't know.

It's a good case, though I think it's hindered a little bit by the cold reveal at the start - I mean, obviously L'Belle did it, sure, but seeing not just the killer but seeing the actual murder itself occur does take away from some of the intrigue... although there's still some fairly good mysteries to unravel here anyway. Damian Tenma is one of my favorite one-off characters - him seeming scary but being a really good guy and nice dad is a fun cliche, and when he breaks out the wrestling kayfabe he's awesome. It's totally different from the Mr. Hat thing for me - that was completely out of nowhere, merely meant to fake out the player into thinking something exciting was happening, and the way they drop it immediately afterwards doesn't make sense. This, instead, was a clever last ditch effort where we're in on the joke and it kind of makes sense that the Judge is superstitious and naive enough to buy it (Blackquill obviously doesn't). Top tier defendant in terms of being useful to the case. I love Damian Tenma. Also, the twist that he's not the wrestler we think he is is awesome.

Apollo vs Blackquill is a great personality match and it's a shame we don't see it much after this (I've always found it very ironic that Apollo vs Blackquill and Athena vs Nahyuta are way better matchups than the reverse, but I guess it makes sense). This is the first case in the series where it feels like Apollo starts to come into his own, which is nice and kind of an underrated aspect of the case. The murder mystery is fine and the rest of the cast are fine. Apollo, Blackquill, and Damian carry it for me primarily. It does struggle a little bit with being somewhat unmemorable.

Yeah, I noticed this. I can't think of another time in the series where you pretty conclusively prove a series of events that fits your narrative and then it turns out it just didn't happen that way at all.

I thought about giving it a 2 but at least it's not boring to play, really. The in media res thing doesn't work at all, it just makes things confusing. I thought Apollo was injured at the start of the case, but then, he gets injured midway through the case, and it's like - I don't know, I just felt confused by it? Like, wait, was Apollo involved in the bombing? Was that here? When was that? I dunno I just felt confused.

It's also weird that Athena starts this case but just totally loses her shit even though she managed to handle 5-3. I mean, I know anxiety attacks are a hell of a thing, but it kinda sucks that Athena basically hasn't had the chance to overcome her fear because Phoenix steps in and takes the spotlight again. It's nice to see Phoenix return to court, I guess. I do like Ted Tonate and I like Phoenix calling his bluff at the end. I like Bum Rap Rhiny and Phony Phanto. I dunno, there is some stuff to like, but it's not a very memorable case.

A lot of my favorite games of all time are NES games, so only being able to give Zelda II and Mega Man 3 a +3 and Mega Man 5 a +2 is kind of disgusting but it is what it is.

Obviously I'm kind of a huge Mega Man fan so those games are going to take up... a lot of space. Even my less favored ones (1 and 6) are still standouts among the library overall.

Kinda feel like my list of favorite NES games is very "basic" but oh well! What can I do, Mario/Zelda/Mega Man are just really good.

For a fan translation it's gorgeous - they went above and beyond by getting voice actors (Sungwon Cho!) and redoing all the graphics, and the script itself is fine, but in my opinion it still has quite a few "Japanese-isms" that Capcom's would have ironed out. Examples that really stand out to me in Prosecutor's Path: people (especially Kay) saying "Eh??", people saying "a certain person/that person", people using the word "forceful" too often (and other situations in which a good script would use more synonyms). There's others. It stands out. Still, I can't fault them too much because they did an INCREDIBLE job overall.

I would be absolutely shocked if the official translation were not better than the fan translation. I mean, the AAI2 fan translation exceeded my expectations by quite a lot, but it's still noticeably worse than any official translation imo

AAI2 saw what AAI1 did and was like "oh, right, we should actually give the main character a character arc"

I think the worst thing about what AAI1 did is that it somehow managed to suck all of the novelty out of playing as Edgeworth by making it not really matter that you're playing as Edgeworth

it's "great" when one of these games has a character that's secretly super dangerous to search for images of and nobody can tell you (hi danganronpa, ghost trick)

It's a pretty good finale, neither a truly great one nor a disappointing one. Like, the villain reveal is pretty fun but his plan isn't really AS cool as it could've been, and there's some stuff that doesn't make sense. Also this case really bounces around a lot and doesn't feel like it has much of an identity of its own at times since it's wrapping up the overarching plot of the entire game.

The 'iron' names I think are really a lost in translation thing. They're direct translations of the Japanese names (ie Tetsu-no-X, where X is a three syllable word) which have a much better flow and mouth feel than the english versions, even if the meanings are the same.

This feels like a genre thing too, like that name more strongly implies a 'mecha anime' feel to me than the english names do. just kind of a hunch on this

Fun fact of the day: Stakataka was on a whopping 37 out of 41 ballots! The thing is, 5 of those were +3, and there were some other positive votes in there too, so it didn't bottom out completely, it was just divisive but leaning negative. (I think Stakataka is cool as hell)

I don't normally openly complain, but my 1st, 2nd, and 4th favorite mons got eliminated in Hydro Cannon and my least favorite mon won, yeesh, we have VERY different opinions of what's cool today

This was my least favorite case in AAI2 by a lot. Nothing about it really worked for me, the whole premise of Kay having amnesia was super lame and didn't pay off in any interesting way. I was hoping for a mystery where the items that Kay had on her would be some kind of puzzle for retracing her actions on the night of the crime - that would have been really interesting! But no, all of the items she had on her were just planted there to make her look guilty. Boring. The premise of this case is lacking. The cast isn't that great. Courtney's face turn is really good though.
