Nintendo Direct summary

- Wii U controller named Wii U Gamepad
- Wii U analog sticks confirmed - looks similar to classic controller sticks,
- can turn Wii U controller on without needing any input from the tv
- lots of gamepad/tv interaction shown, mostly in the Wii Sports/minigame sense
- Wii U Pro Controller announced - looks like a 360 pad. Can use this for multiplatform games / 'core' games
- has some kind of message board functionality for each game - looks kinda facebook-y where you can make new threads and comment on others' threads as well
- "Miiverse" -- looks similar to Near on Vita, but asynchronous. it's the first thing you see when you turn on the wii u. can write notes on the touchpad and exchange them with users online. can also be accessed from the home button within games and be implemented in-game if developers desire.
- internet browser - can be used on the gamepad as well as the tv. looks to still be a resistive screen (no multi-touch, so this won't be very functional)
- no games shown -- well, a NSMB Wii U type game and the same Zelda tech demo, but nothing new
- overall, Wii U looks to be doubling down on the social aspects of gaming, but now it's online as well as just in the same room. this isn't talking about online gaming, but rather the ability to communicate through the system and share experiences communally. nothing groundbreaking, just done in a family-friendly, "Nintendo" kind of way.
