Arcade's Revenge was pretty sweet.

That old X-Men arcade game was awesome, too. I used to play that with my dad when I was a little kid. He'd always pick Colossus, and we'd imitate the roaring sound he makes every time he used his special move.

45. Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage


First of all, I’m a huge fan of Spider-Man. He is easily my favorite superhero. I loved the 90s cartoon and I loved the Spidey video games. I wasn’t a dedicated reader of the comics, but I followed an arc here and there, and I generally kept up with the overall plotlines. Venom is my favorite Spidey nemesis, too, and this game is probably the biggest reason why. I used to play this game all the time back in the day. It was probably the game that got the most use out of my Game Genie because I was not so good at this game when I was 8 years old, especially those fights against Carnage. Dude was insane.

Of course, the biggest appeal of the game was getting to play as Spider-Man and Venom, but the gameplay is fun, too. I really like beat-em-ups to begin with, so that helps. It was fun being able to use your webbing to tie up enemies, pull them closer to you, and toss them around. There was also that cool attack where if you had two enemies on either side of you, you could grab both of them with your webbing and slam them into each other, which did a lot of damage.

Plus, you also had items that let you summon various superheroes to help you dispatch enemies, like Black Cat, Morbius, Captain America, etc. That was really cool. Firestar in particular was really useful against Carnage since he’s weak against fire. The boss fights against the bad guys were good, too, fighting against Demogoblin, Carrion, Shriek, and that Spidey doppelganger with six arms whose name I forget off hand. The game was also pretty faithful to the Maximum Carnage comic series, which was nice, including using some comic panels from them in-game to tell the story. So yeah, fun game.

Cactuar Hunting is eliminated, huh? My thoughts: I actually kind of like this one, although it's much more bearable if you have a No Encounters armor equipped so you don't have to worry about that and you can focus on just the cactuar hunting. Some of the cactuar stuff is humorous at times, too. It's nothing special though.
