I don't give a f*** whether a fanbase is good or not if I like something. I'm not going to pretend not to like Earthbound just because there are some insufferable fans (which seems to especially be the case on B8).
It does have the opposite effect, though. If a fanbase has an exceedingly bad reputation, I'm a lot less likely to give something a chance than I would have otherwise. All it really takes is one person whose opinion I trust or someone otherwise giving me a logical explanation of why I should give something a chance. Interesting trends I got bored and mapped out that are certainly meaningless:
If you discount everyone who voted today who didn't vote in either semi-final match, the score becomes 20-19 Brie. If you also discount people who voted in only 1 semi-final (but leave in a few I know voted many times), it's something along the lines of 17-16 Kiebler (that one might be off, I didn't finish going through those). If you go back to Brie/Boufhal and toss out the people who didn't show back up today, that match becomes 19-19 (when you factor in Natwaf's voiced abstention). It just seems to have gone way beyond the merits of one contestant over another. The only people that have really had anything good to say about Kiebler are some of the ones voting for Brie. And the flip side, the only complaints about Kiebler are coming from people voting for her.

Apparently this round is contest/debate. I'm convinced at least a quarter of Kiebler's votes could just as easily go to Rosie O'Donnell judging from people's attitudes on the situation.
That's not to say that people voting for Kiebler shouldn't be, but besides Vlado (a spade's a spade), I really don't see anyone making this big of a deal if Boufhal had won. Lighten up, guys. So what if people don't share your tastes? Does it really make the women you find hot any less hot because 27 people did not agree with you? If you really want to add something, how about pics/vids of one of the ladies.
