A lot of people really didn't like Blankets and Pillows, and I can't grasp why. So good.

I was not aware of this. Outside this board, the only ones that really got hated during the Spring were the first 2, especially Contemporary Impressionists. Though I think people were too concerned about renewal to comment too much on one of the more recent ones. Or I just didn't pay attention.

I think when this is over I might do a proper episode ranking

Character ranking is difficult. I think Shirley has sunk to the bottom now and I don't like it - I think she's a "nice" character and the show benefits from her being there, but I can't think of many really A+ moments involving her. And the ones I can, she's been carried by someone else, like the foosball episode with Jeff.

With Abed I remember him during the stop motion episode and the batvoice
Troy I remember stuff like "MY WHOLE BRAIN IS CRYING", "notches", "Annie's boobs"
Jeff has any number of speeches and one-liners, with the speech he gave Pierce (there will be nothing wacky or madcap about it) and the episode where he hulked out with vanity wihle wearing Aviators being standout moments
Pierce has the time he destroyed Vickie (You look weird. *leans into mic* Because of your overbite. My platform will be one high enough to push Vickie off to her death.)
Annie has paintball when she was badass and the chloroform scene
Britta doesn't have loads - she's better at being the butt of jokes - but even then I remember stuff like the Britney Spears impression and the whole thing with Chang when she was rebelling by kicking that bin and got tazered during the mock UN

Whereas with Shirley....I remember when she went into labour and such but yeah. She's fine, but she doesn't have those standout moments.

Abed is the best and most interesting character though and I won't hesitate to say that right now; he just offers a range of stuff you can do with him that you can't do with anyone else. Do you want to explore how his mind works? Do it. Do you want to use him for a running background gag? There's nobody better. Nobody unites the group better, nobody centralizes an episode better than Abed. And of course he's hilarious.

Pierce basically dominated S2, so he'd probably be up there. If I made a huge list where I ranked all the main characters' individual seasons, S2 Pierce is the highest. But he's been a little more on the backburner in S3 I think, while Jeff and Troy have been consistently great in every season. Annie significantly picked up as things went on and Britta is entertaining.

Honestly I still want to just say the boys > the girls but I feel like it's harsh on Annie especially, given her improvement. But is she better than Pierce, Troy, Abed or Jeff individually? I'd struggle to say that.

Annie and Britta are both definitely better than Pierce. I'd say in Season 3, Britta has consistently been better than Jeff, too.

Troy > Abed > Dean > Britta > Jeff >= Annie > Chang > Pierce > Shirley

Pierce basically dominated S2

I really only find that true in the second half of it (plus the trampoline episode), and only about half of those occasions. Besides that, he'll usually have the one or two great lines an episode, but then not really add much past that.

Abed > Troy > Annie >= Dean > Jeff > Britta > Pierce > Chang > Shirley

It's hard for me to satisfyingly place Chang. If I separate Chang into seasons, it's something like:

S1 Chang > Abed > Troy > Annie >= Dean > Jeff > Britta = S3 Chang(?) > Pierce > Shirley >>> S2 Chang

I agree (even if her transition to this point makes no damn sense), but not to the point of putting her ahead of Jeff overall just yet. I might change my mind after the season is over, though. It's enough to make me more comfortable putting her ahead of Pierce, though.
