From: SmartMuffin | #254 Isn't Foley widely regarded as like, a really nice and decent guy? How exactly does someone get in an altercation with him backstage? He's like the last person I'd expect to hear that about...
It's an angle.

I'm not ENTIRELY sure how you blow this angle off in a wrestling match, but it's such a heavy subject matter with a lot of grey area and the potential to explore some genuinely thought-provoking stuff about radical freedom and accountability.
So basically I don't trust WWE to pull this off.

For those following the Mick Foley/Dean Ambrose angle, check out their Twitter accounts @realMickFoley and @TheDeanAmbrose.
Basically the story is that there was an altercation backstage at SmackDown between the two, and WWE sent Ambrose home, and Ambrose is blaming Mick for it in his awesomely condemning manner.

From: SmartMuffin | #240 I think it's dumb how ADR is announced as the #1 contender before Sheamus/D-Bry happens. Way to obviously spoil your own match, WWE! You should NEVER have a #1 contender for a title announced while that title is still in contention.
Does the Rumble winner get a special exemption?

From: Panthera | #234 Faces should never win I Quit matches any more because heels can use the audience (or a commentator or someone backstage or whoever) as a hostage
This is technically true of any match where submission is an option.

From: SmartMuffin | #235 Also, by Jakyl logic, Rock pinning Foley with a forklift should have broken falls count anywhere matches forever, too <_<
It certainly broke kayfabe forever! <_<
EDIT: But to respond seriously, "stay away from forklifts" is a lot more manageable of a strategy to take away from that match than "stay away from ringposts" is to learn from Cena/Batista.

WWE tried that once at WM X, although it was called "Falls Count Anywhere" at the time. Savage vs. Crush, whenever a pinfall happened the other guy had a 10 count to get to the ring from wherever he was pinned or else he lost.
EDIT: It sucked

From: Rad Link 5 | #222 To expand on the former, a Last Man Standing match can be better than a regular match if the angle has built the feud up as two guys who just want to beat the ever-loving s*** out of each other until one of them is physically incapable of getting back up. It doesn't even feel like a match since there's no pinning or submitting. It's just a straight-up brawl.
See, here I just feel like Streetfights or Falls Count Anywhere or Cage or Hell in a Cell or whatever just works better.
All the ref counts are just like really repetitive rest holds.
Maybe it's just the way WWE does them, I dunno. I just feel like they have too many winning attempts to stall the match.
My issue with Iron Man Matches is more the end of the match. Two people trying to pin each other is ALMOST always more interesting than one person trying to win and the other just playing defense trying not to lose.

That match told such a great story, with a fantastic ending.
There was really no reason to bump it up from 15 minutes to 20 though; I felt the extra time hurt the match a bit.
Iron Man rules matches are in the same boat as Last Man Standing matches for me, in that I don't see why people clamor for them. Conventional finishing methods are fine in the vast majority of cases IMO. Those stips are more likely to hurt a match than help it, even with great workers.
I'd much rather see two guys like Bryan and Punk wrestle a match that just happens to go an hour than I would see them wrestle an Iron Man match. HBK vs. Cena from Raw > any Iron Man match WWE's ever done.

Just a reminder: DVRs might not catch Super SmackDown Live tonight if you have them set to record regular SmackDown. Double check them if you plan to record!
Although even if you miss it, it should pick up the rerun on Friday.

vs. Del Rio on Raw vs. Del Rio and Miz at TLC vs. Ziggler on Raw vs. Ziggler at Royal Rumble vs. Jericho, Kingston, Truth, Miz, and Ziggler at Elimination Chamber vs. Jericho at Wrestlemania vs. Henry on Raw vs. Henry on Raw vs. Henry on Raw next week
Next week will be his 9th! I don't know for absolute certain, but if he can get to 10 I believe that will be the most since Cena's 13-month reign.

From: Jeff Zero | #044 But seriously though, Super Mario World practically pops at me on my 2007 Trinitron. On my 2011 Samsung HDTV it... is very dark indeed. But yeah, will get S-Video cables now!
Even if it still looks better to you on the Trinitron, you can at least use the S-Video cables on the Trintron itself to enhance it THERE. I'm sure any 2007 model would support S-Video.

From: MrGreenonion | #047 3 generations of Nintendo consoles used the same port for the AV cables, so you maybe could have gotten the GameCube component cables and plugged them into an SNES (or an N64 for that matter!).
Nope, you actually can't. The Gamecube component cables use a Digital Out port that is separate from the A/V port. Nintendo also owns the patent on the design, which is why no 3rd-party GCN component cables exist which is why they all cost $80 now.
There might be some wacky 3rd-party peripheral that connects an SNES to a TV through component, but it wasn't set up to support it so any enhancements made that way would be minimal. Kinda like those 3rd-party Wii HDMI converters.

From: Paratroopa1 | #037 That's another thing I forgot to mention - I'm a huge classic gamer and basically out of touch with most current gaming. Again, not to make it some kind of anti-new games thing, but for me, a CRT looks better when I want to pop something into my SNES.
You can make it look just as good but admittedly it takes some tweaking (and an S-Video cable!).
EDIT: An S-Video cable for your SNES will also improve how it looks on a CRT, if you have that input.
From: Jeff Zero | #033 CRTs definitely still have a place in any old-school gamer's home too though. I've got my beautiful Sony Trinitron hooked up to my Wii and PS2. And sometimes my SNES and Genesis. And damn do Mega Man X and Sonic 3 & Knuckles look badass on it.
EDTVs are still superior for those purposes. :-P

The only new SDTVs I still see on sale ANYWHERE are those tiny 14" ones for kids rooms that have a built in VCR/DVD player and either race car or princess casing.

From: SmartMuffin | #111 Welllllll, I can ALMOST defend this one. When he says "who cares how many FAKE titles you've won" isn't it possible he's taking a jab at TNA's tendency to massively overinflate title numbers and include minor titles from other minor feds (Angle and 3D probably the worst offenders here).
Like, presumably when he says who cares how many FAKE titles you've won, he's not including the TNA titles as fake ones. You'd think...
TNA inflates Angle's "fake" title count by adding in his real ones from legitimate amateur wrestling, actually. <_<

From: Takfloyd_mkII__ | #017 I don't think I've seen a non-HD TV in like 10 years.
This is like the reverse of the topic creator. Where do you live that everyone you know had an HDTV in 2005 even? I don't think I knew ANYONE that had one until 2004.

I think '07 or '08 was the tipping point where HDTV ownership overtook households without HDTVs in America. They've been widespread for multiple years now.

From: SmartMuffin | #103 I know we're talking about TNA here, but isn't that really breaking kayfabe in a way that we haven't really seen before? Isn't that the equivalent of publicly admitting that all the storylines are fake and created by writers?
During the Immortal storyline, there was LITERALLY a segment where Hogan said, ON AIR, that how many titles you've won doesn't matter anymore, because those are given to you by the old writers and now it's time to REALLY prove yourself with him and Eric in charge. Draw money or get fired.

1.) Colt Cabana defeated Adam Pearce to become a 2-time NWA Champion today.
2.) ROH has confirmed Richards (c) vs. Steen for the ROH Championship will happen at Border Wars in Toronto next month, which is now an iPPV, which WILL NOT be carried by GoFightLive.

And after all my protestations about it, those ref dudes really weren't that bad on SD itself. I was judging them based on NXT and Superstars, where they were a lot more demonstrative.

And yeah, just went through the various lists to verify, that's the ONLY way you can stretch that grouping to 5, if you're counting ANY WWE Tag Title and you're counting ANY incarnation of the Big Gold Belt.
So in reality only Show, Angle, and Edge have REALLY done it.

Watching SD now, I am SO TORN on Bryan. I think the groundswell of support for him is tremendous, and if he can prove that the audience will always have his back that can mean nothing but good things for his career.
On the other hand...DAMN that was a great heel promo. It just made me want to see him lose even quicker for being that vicious to AJ.
