The problem is that I consider crazy characters a weakness of mine. You'll be hard pressed to find a crazy character I don't love-- which is actually why I gave the game a shot.

How he manages to be totally crazy and totally unlikeable at the same time is beyond me.

Fuminori from Saya no Uta probably. I'm not entirely sure if that's more the fault of the protag or the terrible story/writing though.

Vaan's also a good choice, simply for how irrelevant he is.

I didn't mention this before because complaining about TNA was a higher priority, but I never felt RVD has gotten any sort of special recognition from smarks. For as many big fans of the guy you have Jakyls out there in my experience. Maybe it was a big thing with ECW smarks back in the day but I seem to remember Benoit being about the only thing Smarks talked about back then.

The genre itself isn't big enough that it really needs a genre specifier yet is the thing. You could almost as easily just DotA, HoN, or LoL. Because that's all there is.

Hence the genre "MOBA" doesn't really have much use. But I'm just saying that's the name of the genre. Sure saying "lol-like" or "DotA-like" is easier to understand because it's a 3 game genre, but yeah, copyrighting the name of a game that you intend to make entries for is uh... very reasonable.

Also not that it's necessarily relevant here but "B8 said it" is never evidence that something is correct or accepted.

I actually kinda like what they're doing with Bully Ray. Like he's just being an ass to everyone, and it's just going to well up and snap back on him. It's kind of like... what Bullies do.

Or knowing TNA they're going to run with one feud and forget the other ones exist.

But I'm just saying the potential for a good storyline is there even if it wouldn't be in the form of a traditional 1v1 feud.

Oh hey Lopen, did you enjoy the AJ Styles secret?

I was dying. So bad. So so bad. I seriously would've preferred pretty much anything. I was really hoping it was AJ killed Abyss out of the things I could've seen coming-- it's ridiculous but it'd give Abyss a good feud with AJ Styles coming back. Speaking of Abyss the Abyss stuff last night was hilariously out of place. Main event followed by Abyss warning his brother to close the show "lol"

Actually Impact as a whole last night was pretty bad. Big step down from last week. On the plus side that's two weeks without Garrett Bischoff and ODB/EY maybe they've scrapped both gimmicks and sent them to the void like they do with... most of their wrestlers.

Calling 8 "slightly" easier than 7 is the understatement of the year. Pretty sure 8's hard mode is easier than 7's Eli normal mode.

It's not that 7's difficulty is the only sell for me. I'm just saying.

I had Robbie E "turn" in one of the segments-- was a complete success. I'm not really changing the character much-- maybe he'll be a bit less of a jerk to Stevie Ray-- but given he's primarily antagonizing heels it makes more sense for the moment. WWE style turn basically. (Also I had Stevie Ray as face so yeah) The "Just According to Keikaku" gimmick works about as well for a face as a heel so no gimmick change.

That's about it. I'm happy I got builds for all my PPV matches in this week.

Impact Week 4 Jan 2012

SHOWTIME:

Kurt and Joe are in the audience to start the show. Sting comes out and cuts a promo, says that because he not only lasted 15 minutes against Joe, he beat him, Kurt Angle has to accept his challenge now. Kurt Angle laughs at him and says "hell freaking no you're gonna have to do better than that!" Sting negotiates for a while in a back and forth... and finally breaks down, drops to his knees, and says as the owner, he'll put TNA ITSELF on the line. Title vs Company winner take all! Kurt nods approvingly, and accepts the challenge! He also says he wants a tag match tonight against whoever to warm up. Sting books him against LAX to the confusion of everyone, and books himself against Bully Ray. (96)

RVD is in the ring with Shannon Moore and says he's calling an intervention for Jeff Hardy today... Jeff's friends and family are concerned about him and his delusions of being Jesus or whatever. Jeff Hardy comes out to the ring and acts reasonable, then suddenly tells the sinners to kneel. Shannon Moore attacks him and we're underway! (72) Hardy d. Shannon Moore (61)

Tara d. Sarita (68) After the match, Winter is in the ring, with Angelina Love, Hamada, and ODB. Winter says that ODB has accepted the Knockouts Title into her life. ODB yells something incoherent about "gold yeah all for the money yeahhh BOOM". Winter rolls her eyes but says she is confident ODB will find the true path (61) During this, Tara barges into Sting's office asking for a Knockouts Title shot-- Sting blows her off again, saying sure whichever Knockout enters the ring next will get a title shot. Tara thanks Sting and runs out... but Glacier decides it's time for an impromptu entrance before she gets there accompanied by Gail Kim, who is still sad in the snow! Sting shows up on the tron and says Gail Kim gets the shot! (75)

Winter d. Gail Kim to retain, and as usual, Winter leads her from the ring. (60) Austin Aries d. Scott Steiner to retain (75)

Stevie Ray is backstage wandering around aimlessly, he is attacked by Beer Money! They drag him off and shout that if Robbie E doesn't want him harmed he'll bring the title! (66) Just after, Hemme finds Robbie E fist pumping backstage with his two titles and asks what he's going to do. Robbie E snaps to attention and shows glimpses of concern, but insists that Stevie Ray just isn't a part of his long term plans anyway-- they need to do better. Then snaps back out of it tosses his tag title in his duffel and fist pumps like a moron some more. (55)

AJ asks that Sting let him fight as Sting's chosen champion of the company. Sting barks and chews him out and says he's what got them into this mess, and books him in a tag match with a mystery partner vs Jarrett and Compton. (86) UltraMantis Black d. Val Venus. Suicide comes out after the match and POINTS~... UMB gives him a "what the hell are you doing" gesture (53)

Styles gets a competent partner, and AJ Styles and Matt Morgan d. Jarrett and Compton (74) Robbie E d. Eric Young to retain (56) After the match Beer Money drags out a struggling Stevie Ray and say they'll toss him off the stage through the stage lights! Robbie E pretends to be unphased... but then cracks and tosses them his duffle with a grimace. They let go of Stevie Ray, sift through the bag... there's nothing in there! Stevie Ray slap jacks them both before they realize what's going on! (65)

Angle and Samoa Joe d. L. A. X. who clearly have some communication issues with Hernandez being a Voodoo Priest and Homicide not even sure why he's here. (88) Sting d. Bully Ray. After the match Joe Angle and Bully beat the stuffing out of Sting. Bah gawd will he be in form for Sunday!?!?! (93)

I wasn't even comparing you to me. If you'll notice I didn't even mention myself in the original post.

Unless you think all the guys I mentioned are also in a higher tier than I am. Then fair, I suppose. I think they're all better than me but yeah, not "higher tier" better.

(Also FD's ELO wasn't all that great back then either so my comments about him back then don't really have any bearing about me bringing ELO into it-- remember this was a long time ago. That's why I said "he's improved")

If it's small with no TV I would just make it a "non canon" show and just use your guys to the best of your ability to get the highest rating possible. I've actually been doing this with TNA, running a "big house show" every week to help gain popularity faster. It's actually a lot easier to get good ratings if I don't care about building storylines or feuds, sadly <_<

I think it also helps from a gameplay perspective in that I think storyline ending angles/matches get a bonus to the rating though though that's just speculation. I just know every storyline finishing segment always seems to outdo my expectations. Maybe it's just cause I know how to write big finishes or something <_<

Well I see what I do worse than say, red13n easily. Or Ermine. Or tons of random "pros" I watch stream from time to time.

I just don't think you are quite as good as you think you are. I think most b8ers, you included, fall into the 1200-1500 elo range depending on how their luck is going at the moment. Like I could maybe say you're at the top end of that tier, but you're still in that same tier as most b8ers are. I don't think LoL ELO has ever really proven me wrong in this regard either.

Truth be told I don't really consider you to be much better than most people I play with, Chris. No offense intended just an honest assessment of your abilities as I perceive them. I certainly don't consider you to be significantly ahead of the likes of HGR or Sytha or Silverliner (if he's not doing something stupid) if at all. Granted there are a lot of b8ers I don't play with often and most of them are significantly worse, I suppose.

Also don't really think FD was too far above our level at that time, either.

He's improved a lot since then, though. I suppose it's possible you have too but I haven't played with you in a while.

Eh the community argument just means it's a competitive game with a scene as Phase said. Most of the points in that video for it being a Fighting game apply to stuff like Starcraft and Warcraft and Call of Duty as much as Smash which is my main problem with the presentation of the video. It has 8 to 4 on points but I'd consider the 4 points to be a lot stronger actually.

To be fair I sorta have that rule too. Or at least, I don't surrender until at least an inhib is down, generally. I get slightly annoyed when teams forfeit too quickly but don't think I've ever flipped out about it.

But uhh, in that particular game it really was "just about to go down." Like I clearly remember going to defend our top inhibitor while you guys were off dead or doing something else, getting owned, and hitting the last "yes" for the forfeit. Pretty sure the inhib would've literally went down in a few seconds.

(the only reason I remember that game is because I'm generally against forfeiting and thought you were really dumb for being like "we didn't even lose any inhibs!!!!!!" because we pretty much were just about to)

Not that I want to make an argument about a 2 year old game or anything, I'm just saying though I sorta agree with your philosophy in general I just feel you were completely wrong in that case to get even a little annoyed. Particularly in normal there comes a time where it's time to just cut your losses and hope to do better next game. If you're behind 20 kills and an inhib, I'd file that under "so unlikely to win that it's not worth playing out in normal." Down 20 kills without losing an inhib we'll talk, but yeah.

Sephiroth is definitely the best villain in the series just speaking on how well he's written as a villain. I could see not liking him for reasons based on his character, but FF7 is the best at making their villain really have a good presence over the game throughout the game.

Kefka is a close second. Golbez would also be up there but lol. X-Death has it but takes a while to get there. Kuja has presence but is kinda like Revolver Ocelotesque most of the time. Seymour would be decent just for his creepiness and persistence but lol again. The rest are totally bad as villains.

I dunno why someone would call Caitlyn boring. She's the most fun ranged carry outside of Ezrael just talking straight skills. The traps + nets are fun to get away from things and hitting her ult on fools who are running away is really satisfying. She's one of the few carries that doesn't just have a steroid on one of their skill slots.

Also while we're on the topic of Tifa I do think that Cloud x Tifa is the best romantic pairing in Final Fantasy, for what that's worth. Thing is I don't think that's a particularly strong point of Final Fantasy games but it's pretty much the only one I find kinda convincing anyway. It's nice because it's one of the few that gets explicitly built on in the game. The others are either pre-established or they're built with random romantic scenes that are just sorta there for no real reason (looking at you TidusxYuna). And her limit breaks are pretty cool.

So I guess I endorse her being on the list is what I'm saying.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite Tales of Symphonia moment?
The first visit to the Tower of Salvation for sure. I've actually never done the moment your write-up was on, though. I like the guy too much. Someday I'll do it though.

Bonus Question: What is your FFVII party of choice?
Cloud, Yuffie, Tifa. I usually mix up the third, though. Barret and Vincent see a lot of time there too.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite TWEWY moment?
The first week in general, really. The game seems a lot better early when you're not sure what's going on and the formula is fresh. After the first week it kinda feels repetitive to me. Also Shiki is the best partner of the three by far.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite handheld game?
Fire Emblem 7. Just got the best cast of the FE series by far which really helps me get into the gameplay better.

Would answer the Mass Effect race but I don't really feel strong about the races in ME1 and haven't played the others. I could say Quarrian (or whatever Tali is-- I think that's right) but that'd be more "Tali's great" than "Quarrians are great"

The problem is they don't really weight the points. "Stages that are about platforming more than fighting" vs "you can turn them off" and "items" vs "you can turn them off" are not points that balance out.

I mean I don't really care about the debate but yeah. Just because the "is a fighting game" half had more bullet points on it doesn't necessarily mean it should win the debate or whatever. Fighterpedia has this problem with all of their videos I've seen actually.
