The Ambassador

The Ambassador is a 6'0" tall man in concealing dark robes and a hood, with skintight gloves and boots; these protect his identity from even magical divining. He never speaks, and nothing about him is known except that he appears, targets a victim, kills him or her, and leaves.

The Ambassador has no superhuman powers nor items, save for his anti-divination magic clothing, but he does possess a variety of equipment. In direct combat, he favors two long knives, but he will almost never try confront an enemy directly, instead favoring stealth. He also possesses flash grenades (the effect of which does not seem to affect her), caltrops, and bola. He is also extremely fast and athletic - almost peerless.

Iris as champion? I think that'd be a pretty cool change from b/w

Then we'd have 2 dragon trainers, though. In a row. With the legendaries being dragons.

Not to mention we'd have two dragon champions.

I think the most likely candidate might be Marshal, since he was mentioned as being Alder's personal apprentice... though I guess N is a possibility.

Best option would be a surprise appearance by Red, with level 100 Pikachu, Blastoise, Charizard, Venusaur, Pidgeot, and Snorlax, but obviously that won't happen.

Why you no like Piplup? :( Just look at those new pics. He's awesome. Axew's problem is that he doesn't have much of a personality, unless Scraggy is in the picture. Most of the time it's just:

Iris: "Right, Axew?"
*pops out of hair*
Axew: "Axew!"

Piplup is always just so damn sure of itself that even during the minority of times it's actually right about something, it's really annoying.

In Japanese, people call Hikari "Pikari", because "pika" means "sparkle" and the situation caused her hair to sparkle. Note that the dub came up with Dee-Dee as the embarrassing nickname years before anyone knew there would be an explanation.

That actually makes sense, thank you.

Aside from the concept of Snorlax on a trampoline, the Pokeathlon episode didn't do that much for me. (They literally turned the lamp event into filler!) And it's a shame, because I like the Pokeathlon more than pretty much every other Pokemon side-event in the games.

To be honest, I didn't even remember it was legitimately part of the game. I never did side stuff after my bad experiences with the Battle Frontier.

Alright, that sounds promising - I'm at least looking forward to seeing Infernape beat Snorlax, then, which will also be hard.

As for Dawn rejoining, that sounds pretty cool, too. I haven't seen Iris in action yet, though, so I don't know Dawn is better than her.

FIGHTING IRE WITH FIRE
"Welcome to the pokemon center."
"Welcome to my heart's center!"
"... Really?"

Score: 7.5/10

The heroes stumble into Barry, who, it seems, has earned his eighth badge. He speaks very highly of the Sunnyshore Gym, making a big deal of how good a gym it is. They all go together to the pokemon center, where they run into Paul. Barry challenges Paul to a battle, but Paul tells him to fight Ash. Ash tries to be friendly with Paul, but Paul just blows him off again-- until Ash mentions that he plans to go to the Sunnyshore Gym next, prompting Paul to call it an illegitimate gym and warn Ash to not visit it. Logically, Ash would then ask Paul or Barry why this gym has created a divide in opinions, but being Ash, he does not. The TV also mentions that the Sinnoh League Pokemon Contest will take place at Lake Valor, the same place they had the Wallace Cup contest.

Meanwhile, James comes up with a plan: in the past, Team Rocket has tried to steal pokemon and escape from the heroes, so this time, he wants to imprison the heroes and then steal the pokemon. They’ve actually used this strategy before, but I mention it because the episode makes a big deal out of it.

Monferno versus Empoleon. Monferno does well, but a hydro cannon connects and sends it into some nearby trees. Just then, Team Rocket traps the heroes in... giant plastic spheres, I guess? Then they capture the released pokemon and try to escape in their balloon. Just then, a flame wheel emerges from the forest - Monferno has gone crazy again and activated blaze. Monferno breaks Ash's ball, but is now too crazy to listen to orders, and goes on a rampage against Team Rocket. Ash tries to stop it, since this could hurt the trapped pokemon, but it ignores him.

The pokemon are about to be crushed by the falling balloon when Paul steps in it and has his Electabuzz use protect, stopping the ballon from crushing them. However, the protect’s sphere of protection can only take so much damage, and no one can go and rescue the pokemon from the falling balloon. Worse, Monferno is still freaking out, so Ash throws himself in front of it and takes the damage. Even Paul is impressed with Ash's balls at this. Monferno finally gains enough control of itself to jump over and lift the balloon up when Electabuzz’s protect fails, and the stress is enough that it evolves. Infernape is now strong enough to break the cage the pokemon are held in, and saves everyone.

Ash thanks Paul, and Paul admits that Reggie told him that he wants to see them in a full battle again. Paul grudgingly tells Ash that he'll battle him in the League-- implying that Ash doesn’t completely suck.

Actually a pretty good episode. Infernape is supposed to be one of Ash’s best pokemon from what I’ve heard-- I don’t know if this is true yet, it’ll be difficult to beat Charizard and Snorlax, but we’ll see.

PLAYING THE PERFORMING ENCORE!
"Glerp"
Score: 5/10

We begin with Ursula and Jessie fighting. I've gotta tell you, Plusle and Minun are so cute it literally causes me physical pain. My eyes are physically pulsing with pain because I have to watch their forced adorableness. After what is clearly two minutes, the five minute timer runs out and Ursula wins.

Cyndaquil and Mamoswine use Flameice on a random enemy's pokemon, but Cyndaquil screws it up, melting the ice as it approaches them... but it turns out to be okay, because the ice melts around its flame wheel and accidentally creates a cool explosion-looking attack, which the judges like. Between rounds, Dawn finds Cyndaquil and Mamoswine can't use Flameice reliably, so Brock tells her to just shelf the move for now and use a more reliable combination. Ursula overhears this, but don’t worry, it’s not actually important.

Finally, it comes to Ursula's Plusle/Minun versus Dawn's Mamoswine/Cyndaquil. Mamoswine/Cyndaquil use some impressive-looking moves, but Plusle and Minun use encore to trap Mamoswine and Cyndaquil into the same moves as before, which costs Dawn a lot of points, since Plusle and Minun can easily avoid moves they know are coming. The Plusle and Minun accidentally use spark on Mamoswine, Cyndaquil, and Dawn at the same time, causing the same diamond dandruff as she had before... but it also affects Mamoswine and Cyndaquil. This would have been cool to work with, but the episode takes no notice of it. Since her pokemon are locked by encore, Dawn has Cyndaquil use swift on Mamoswine until it wears off, helping them avoid Ursula’s pokemon countering her pokemon. Unfortunately, so much time has been wasted that Dawn has only thirty seconds left, giving her no choice but to rely on Flameice. It works perfectly, and when Plusle and Minun try to use another combination, Dawn completely breaks it and destroys them. I like how even though they had thirty seconds left, this clearly takes well over two minutes - I'm not joking, at a minimum this is two minutes after Dawn had only thirty seconds left. Well, Dawn wins. Ursula makes a crack about having to win using the time limit, which is of course what she did to Jessie but eh, she’s a (nominal) villain so I’ll let it pass.

A completely average contest episode, and a boring one for Dawn to win her fifth ribbon in. I mean… Ursula is who she beats for this extremely important ribbon? Not even Nando or Kenny, but Ursula?

YES IN DEE DEE, IT'S DAWN!
"Carnivine and Seviper. Remarkable."
Score: 5/10

Wow, they just flat out gave up on trying to make the lip flaps have logical, compelling dialogue, huh?

The heroes have finally reached the town with a contest, and Dawn's given her fire-ice combo the incredibly original name of "Flameice." Tune in next time to this incredibly clever show, Pocket Monst-- oh. Damn.

In the area outside the contest building, Dawn sees Ursula (Gabite girl from waaaaay back), with a Plusle and Minun and freaks out. We learn here that Dawn is actually afraid of Plusle and Minun, and explains to Ash and Brock (with Ursula overhearing) that when she was five years old, a Plusle and Minun shocked her, causing sparkles in her hair, which made other kids call her “Diamond Dandruff,” or “D.D.” for short. Gotta say, that’s a decent enough explanation for me, and I appreciate it actually making sense. I’m not joking! I really do… Though I do wonder what the Japanese explanation is.

In the actual contest (who cares about those?). Jessie, Dawn, and Ursula all do well in very interesting ways that would be hard to describe with text. Unsurprisingly, Round 2 will be Jessie, Ursula, Dawn, and I've done this joke so many times that even the meta joke about having already done it is old.

I'm confused, is Dawn actually rejoining or is she just having an episode or two-parter?

Also, Games-wise:
Lance > Blue > Cynthia > Alder > Steven > Wallace

A MARATHON RIVALRY!
"No rope-a-doping without a heavy weight!"
Score: 3/10

The heroes meet Daniel, a scientist who trains his Snorlax using scientific training methods and who abhors using emotions to become stronger. This offends Ash, who challenges him to a battle, but Daniel refuses. He is, however, willing to enter the pokeathelon with aAsh. Since there's already a pokeathelon being held in Sinnoh, this works out well. Amusingly, the heroes actually recall they had this exact same plot in Johto, but then continue without further reference.

Daniel is very proud of his training method and condescending of training pokemon using "feelings," and when Ash points out that Snorlax is obviously depressed because of how Daniel is acting ("feelings aren't important), Daniel checks his computer and finds that Ash is right. After some Team Rocketry, Daniel and Ash do the hundred meter dash with their pokemon, and Daniel narrowly wins - but admits he was only able to because he considered what Ash said about feelings being important, which let him connect to Snorlax better. By the way: Snorlax is as fast as Pikachu. Who knew?

This episode literally combines the Johto pokeathelon episode with the Guy with a Scizor and a Laptop episode, and is worse than both.

REGAINING THE HOME ADVANTAGE!
"Herp"
Score: 3/10

Okay, the new opening theme song... Eh. It's okay. Nothing special.

The heroes are walking along when they see a wild Magnezone smashing stuff up. They follow it to a town, where it continues to smash stuff up. They join forces with Officer Jenny, who literally does nothing the entire episode, and at one point Brock has to save her life. Magnezone can’t be stopped, but fortunately, a Metagross appears and fights it. Unfortuantely, they’re so strong that they start wrecking up the town. The heroes each send out their strongest pokemon to stop them, but Monferno, Happiny, and Mamoswine all get their asses kicked. By the way, notice something?
external image

The heroes decide that this might have something to do with a nearby mountain using no logic at all, so they use Pikachu and Pachirisu’s thunderbolt and discharge on the sky to draw the wild pokemon to follow them to the mountain. There, they meet Chrispin, who patrols the mountain. Is that an actual job? Well, whatever. He explains that on the top of the mountain is a basin - normally empty, but currently full of water. This mountain is full of locations that give off "strange magnetic energy" that gets trapped in their bodies, so Magnezone and Metagross release that energy by battling in this basin. But since the basin is now full of water, they’re going into the town. Why aren’t they fighting elsewhere on the mountain? I don’t know.s

The heroes quickly find why the basin is full: a boulder has blocked a nearby river (on top of a mountain), which is causing the water to flow into the basin. They break the boulder, but the basin is still full, so the heroes have Buneary freeze the entire basin and Happiny lift all of the ice by itself,
external image
And throw it into a nearby valley, where it no doubt falls on several hundred wild pokemon and kills them all. With the basin empty, the pokemon can now battle in safety. Ash is bored, so he has Gible use draco meteor for… some reason? And it of course hits Piplup and we actually get a whop-whop-whop-whooooooooop sound.

I actually had to cut out like a third of the episode from this write-up because it has so much padding. More padding than I’ve ever seen in a single episode. I mean, when your filler has filler, and you still need to draw things out by having Gible hilariously harm Piplup unprovoked, you need to go back to your creative writing class.

I think you skipped (or forgot to post) the write up for "Double-Time Battle Training!". It's the episode after "Mastering Current Events!".

Did I? Here it is.

DOUBLE-TIME BATTLE TRAINING
"What's causing your boot heels to be wandering?"
Score: 4/10

Zoey and a random trainer named Rebecca are battling for a ribbon while the heroes watch. Candice is here, too, and so is her kiai. Zoey wins decisively, gaining her fifth ribbon. Candice takes everyone out for a victory meal, and there Dawn learns about ice-cream-and-spicy food at the same time, because "sometimes things you'd never think go together go together really well." I wonder if this will be important later.

At night, Dawn trains with Piplup, Buneary, and Pachirisu to use bubble beam and ice beam, and whirlpool and discharge, at the same time. Zoey offers to help Dawn train the next day, and she of course accepts.

The next day, Ash sees a news interview between Rhonda and Paul, who just won his eighth badge. Ash and Brock run into Candice, who informs them that "Dawn's doing... Zoey... her kiai is peaking" (I didn't cut out any important words, trust me >_>).

Dawn has a ton of trouble with her combination attacks, so Zoey asks for a double battle to help her train. Zoey's Leafeon (ew) and Kirlia versus Dawn's Mamoswine and Cyndaquil (she decides fire and ice don't go together, so they go together really well). Mamoswine creates an ice... thing around Cyndaquil while it's on fire so it can tackle Zoey's pokemon while looking impressive, but it accidentally melts the ice and loses the battle. Still, the experience has be helpful for Dawn, and she departs with high spirits.

Stolen from WOT

http://news.yahoo.com/greeces-tsipras-slams-bailout-vows-stay-euro-180618338.html

ATHENS (Reuters) - The head of Greece's leftist SYRIZA party promised on Thursday to rip up the conditions attached to the international bailout agreement but keep Greece in the euro zone after an election on Sunday that could decide the fate of the single currency.

"The memorandum of bankruptcy will belong to the past on Monday," SYRIZA leader Alexis Tspiras, said in his last campaign rally in Athens before the June 17 election.
