I mean, I can understand it. In my mid to late teens, I had a few years where I only had a few meals a week sometimes, maybe a meal a day on a good week. After so long of that, I still have times where I'll go a day or more without eating because I just don't even notice or thing about it, until I suddenly feel very sick and light headed, and realize I've not eaten in a while.
Your mind kinda defaults into not registering it consciously after enough time, and it's hard to fix that.
