for Smash Mouth what always annoyed me was that I already liked Fush Yu Mang a ton but then Astro Lounge came out and I thought it was only ok, but suddenly all you could hear was All-Star everywhere, all the way up to today. it's ok but not that great.

similar thing with Evanescence, where they were good, and Bring Me To Life was really good, but then it was massively overplayed on the radio and it kind of ruined it
Almost every band that makes it onto the radio has better songs that didn't make it onto the radio. That's the nature of the beast. Can you get good songs on the radio? Sure but being good isn't their goal, getting popular singles are. That's why you'll have record labels turn down otherwise good albums or will make bands write singles for an album.

It's funny how Muscles always lets us know he's playing a clown character when he posts here trying to get a response from us. Placing FDR (the best president in US history) in the same position as a president who did genocide and the guy who was the most racist president in US history.
FDR was pretty racist, he turned away Jewish refugees during WWII, condemning them to the holocaust and started the Japanese internment camps. But hey, he was a democrat so I guess it's ok.

...You do know much of the height of Covid, and the remaining nine months of the fiscal year after Biden entered office, was Trump's era for finances, right? I'm not saying Biden was necessarily good, but this clause of your statement has me feeling the need to ask questions.
He didn't need to print the extra money that started this crazy inflation. At the very least he could have done something since then to help but this economy is shit. Gas, food, and housing prices are all out of hand and he has done nothing about it.

"Biden is the worst president" is such a hilarious take because it immediately outs the person in question as having "Biden replaced Trump" as the sum total of their political knowledge. Like him or not, Biden is a thoroughly unremarkable president. The only things that stand out about him are that he took power after one of the most controversial presidents ever (two impeachments, an attempt to overthrow the election to install him undemocratically, and over a hundred indictments - whatever your opinion on his political stances, it's undeniable that he's made quite a stir) and during/after the worst public health crisis in a century, both of which are more a matter of circumstance than anything that can really be attributed to him.
Biden's whole thing was not being trump, he's pretty bad and hasn't done anything beneficial (besides not being trump). He's pretty bad and has hurt this country with his rampant spending and printing money, thus causing inflation (it is also because of greedy companies, but printing so much during covid came back to bite us in the ass too).

Biden is mid pack at best and in not even sure if he's better than Trump. At least things were more affordable under him, but I would rather have a dead squirrel than either of them. At least you have guys like Andrew Jackson, Woodrow Wilson, and FDR preventing either from being the worst ever unless you let recency bias take a hold of you

I've seen estimates of the volume of gold in Smaug's hoard, and I don't think he even breaks the top 10. It says a lot that people writing billionaires in fiction can't even make them as wealthy as many real people because of how ludicrously implausible that real wealth is.
How do they estimate the Arkenstones worth? It's a priceless artifact

Also I feel like it's kinda stupid to judge Batman's or Iron man's wealth since they're is so many different interpretations of those characters. Are we talking in the comics? Shows? Movies? Batman built an entire space station for the JLA, if it's anywhere close to the ISS then it should have been like at least 60 bil if not more since they have teleporters and other sci-fi tech.

I don't think a "32 hour work week" means everyone starts working only 32 hours a week. It means the definition of "full time" becomes 32 hours, so if you only work 32 hours, you still get all the benefits you currently have to work 40 hours to get.

It might also change the definition of "overtime" to anything over 32 hours, instead of anything over 40 hours. So you may still have to work 40 hours, but you'll get time-and-a-half for 8 of those.
My job gives benefits for "full time" which is 32 hours but they don't start ot until 40

I don't mind the hours, I would rather companies and employees care about each other more. Like how about better pay, better insurance/benefits, better management, etc. and in return employees work harder? I already bust my ass, it would be nice to have some harder working coworkers and better pay to go along with it.

no, stadiums should not involve taxpayer money at all.

take those billions and fix the fucking roads instead.
They already tax you for the roads, politicians just take from that revenue and fill their pockets or spend it on other things instead of fixing the roads. If they spent tax money the way it should be spent we wouldn't have these problems, hell we could cut taxes and still have improved roads, infrastructure, programs, etc.

I would put it this way. Who are you most opposed to? A vote for a third party is most likely to benefit whoever you least want to win.

Let's say you're a Trump supporter. You like his policies, but maybe you don't like his rhetoric or you think he's going about things the wrong way, or the criminal charges bother you. So you say hey, I hate Biden, but I can't bring myself to voting for Trump, even though I agree with him on most things. So let me vote for a third party candidate whom I find more palatable than Trump, but doesn't have his baggage. This basically takes a vote away from the guy you kind of like, Trump, and gives a vote to someone who has zero chance of winning. Essentially reducing Trump's vote count by one. And thus making it more likely for Biden to be elected.

Let's say you prefer Biden over Trump, because Trump wants to end democracy and has fascistic tendencies that you just can't get on board with. You find some of Biden's policies okay, but you just don't like Biden. Maybe you are concerned about the Hunter Biden laptop stuff, or maybe you think his handling of Israel just makes voting for him a non-starter. Even though you think his policies are most certainly better than Trump's, or you're at least closer to him than Trump on policy. You decide to vote third party. Again, this essentially takes a vote away from Biden and increases the likelihood that Trump, the person you despise much more, is elected.

In our current system, voting for a third party is equivalent to taking away a vote from the person from the two main options who you are more closely aligned with, but aren't fully on board with, thus making the other person who you dislike even more, more likely to get elected.

adjl posted...
Voting third-party works in favour of whichever candidate has the fewest third-party alternatives to split the vote. Philosophically, that's more likely to favour conservative/regressive candidates over a progressive one, by simple virtue of there being more ways to progress and try new things than to stay the same/revert to a past state. In practice, of course, it really depends how many candidates there are and which main ones they most closely align with, since that affects whose votes they split.

In the US, the observed trend is that lower voter turnout favours the GOP, especially when looking at more politically educated demographics. Voting third-party is functionally comparable to not voting at all, and given that those voting third-party tend to be more politically educated (instead of just voting for whoever their parents/peers do like so many voters), it can be expected that a higher third-party turnout will favour the GOP.
You 2 are forgetting 1 very important thing. A vote for Trump in Illinois is a wasted vote, and a vote for Biden in Texas is a wasted vote, to an even bigger degree than a 3rd party. 3rd parties need to get to 5% of the total vote to be invited to next election's debates and shit, but the 2 big parties need to win the state to meet their goals, or at least get enough electoral votes in states that can split. I live in Illinois, my vote already doesn't matter because it'll go blue regardless of who I vote for, but I can help a 3rd party get to the debate stage next cycle.

choosing not to vote at all because people don't want to vote for Biden is half as effective for electing Trump as voting for Trump over Biden.
This kind of thinking always bothers me, a non vote or 3rd party vote isn't the same as vote for *candidate you don't like*, I have been told a vote for 3rd parties is a vote for either candidate depending who I'm talking to.

Also averages don't need to be evenly split, you could have 60% above average if below average have bigger outliers

America was never great.
I guess it depends what you consider great and what you consider America, like are we just talking about the American government? The American people? American culture? What how good does something have to be to be great? And how long?

A lot of great things have come from America, and I think generally Americans can be really good people (obviously not all, since there is no group that is 100% good) but the government has been trash for a long time, and American culture isn't what it used to be either, but I don't think that disqualifies it from being great. You can be great without being a paradise. I also don't think the government should be what you judge a country by, since they're all shit and it leads to negative world views.

I'd say it applies across the board. If crunch was ever on the table, having AI tools that supposedly speed things up will probably make it worse. In cases where the tools don't make crunch worse, crunch was probably never on the table to begin with. Either way, AI tools aren't likely to impact abusive crunch.

I'm also not sure I'd go with dumb/smart companies so much as companies that do/don't suck. By and large, the "dumb" companies are quite successful and have made/are making tons of money. It's unlikely that that money is sustainable, but they're engineered such that if the bubble does burst, the executives and board members will get their golden parachutes and the only people really suffering for their myopic greed will be the employees. They may have a few high-profile failures as a result of being out of touch with what it takes to actually make a good game (Anthem being one of the more notable recent examples), but generally speaking, they're quite competent when it comes to the overall goal of making a lot of money quickly. They just suck, from our perspective, because we place more value on having good games and not compromising employees' quality of life than on giving shareholders nice returns.
Companies are so short sighted and stupid. They build a house of cards with no foundation and ruin everything when they could build a strong foundation where product/service quality and employee quality is a higher priority than profits. So they are willing to trade away their foundation for a couple record breaking quarters/years and then let their company dwindle away to nothing instead of being smart about it and building up a system that works long term and will make more money overall while also being better for their customers and employees. It's stupid, these guys shouldn't be running a car wash, let alone a multimillion dollar company.
