It's just to emulate champagne when it's just for low-class people.

Or people who don't drink alcohol? Tf?
Yeah; my guess it's just to look fancier.

I worked at a banquet hall, we gave it out to kids for toasts while people 21+ got champagne, so that too

Pretty much. It's just trying to be a "looks fancy but is actually cheap" sort of option.

Why is carbonated juice considered "cheap" or "low class" and not just "a drink?"
Because carbonated beverages are often sold in glass or plastic bottles. It's not like they cost much.

I don't think they're using cheap as "inexpensive" here since it was also described as "low class"

Why am I low key offended by this topic lol tc you got my goat how

Because compared to champagne (especially real stuff and not just garden-variety sparkling wine), it is cheap. That makes it "low-class" because expensive wine people like to find reasons to look down on others.

As far as I'm concerned, though, you do you and drink what you want. I don't choose beverages to impress people, I choose them because they taste good.

It's not a champagne alternative though it's literally just carbonated juice

It's not even champagne unless it's from the Champagne region of France! Lmaooo anyways this topic has got me delerious

Bottled like that, they're going for a champagne alternative, selling an opportunity to act fancy for people who don't want to blow $50+ on a bottle of something that's actually fancy.

Coming outta retirement to post for the first time in years because I'm offended too...

Low class / trashy people don't buy those for parties; they're too damn expensive.

People who don't drink buy those, and people with kids buy those.

My parents literally bought it for us as children. It's not a champagne alternative. My parents weren't buying it as an alcohol alternative for children.

It's for people who like it, people who have kids, and people who don't or can't drink.

It can be an alcohol alternative for children. If anything, children are some of the most likely people to see adults drinking out of that fancy foil-wrapped bottle that makes a fun "pop" sound and want to try, and sparkling juice packaged the same way lets them join in on that fun with less brain damage than the alcohol would cause.

It's not an alcohol alternative for children. Those are otherwise known as "drinks" or "beverages" to normal people. Children don't drink alcohol so they don't have alcohol alternatives. Plain milk isn't a cheap alternative to a white Russian lol

Not drinking alcohol is exactly why alcohol alternatives exist: To have a similar experience to drinking without actually drinking. In this particular case, it's not so much a matter of being something that tastes similar to champagne as it is being something that looks like drinking champagne. It lets whoever's drinking the juice have the aesthetic of champagne without actually drinking it, which can absolutely be marketed to kids because kids often don't like being left out of what the grown-ups are doing.

Yeah I like them from the bottle but it's a lot to drink, so I just make sure to use glass cups.

Why the glass bottles? The company explains that:
https://www.martinellis.com/company/martinellis-iconic-bottles/
It's for product/brand recognition, associating the contents of the bottle with celebration, etc.

It's not a "cheap low-class alternative to wine" and no one treats it that way. The alternative to expensive/high-class alcohol is cheap alcohol , not fizzy juice. That said, sparkling cider was popularized be Prohibition and was a way for companies that produced alcohol to survive Prohibition, but this meant that it was diametrically opposed to alcohol, not a true substitute, and indeed, advertisements for it went out of their way to point out that it was good for celebrations where people did not want alcohol, NOT for occasions where you had no money, lmao.
Hi
My whole family are teetotalers. It probably started with my grandfather, whose father was killed by a drunk driver when he was a kid. Since he never drank, his kids never learned to associate drinking with celebrations or sports, and thus they became teetotalers, and their kids never associated alcohol with anything. I still don't understand why people drink it; it smells bad, tastes bad, and makes you slow and stupid.

That said, we often had sparkling apple cider or sparkling grape juice for things like Thanksgiving or Christmas. It was classier and felt more festive than soda or other everyday beverages.
