I'm hopeful that TX will one day flip, it's why I never miss a vote even if it "means nothing" statewide; the change can only happen if I don't give up. OH and FL both were blue before. I don't think it applies to OH, however FL is having a lot of voter referendums on the ballot this year and hopefully they would do more than only vote for those things, however I feel like most people don't do that as recent elections have shown.

I'm finding it hard to locate due to all the recent statements by Trump (this is something he intentionally does, he floods the zone (a Steve Bannon term and strategy) with bullshit so that it's hard to remember or look up something that was previously said. The only ones who would do anything about it side with the fascists.

But the point still stands that hardlined gerrymandering overtime depresses overall turnout. TX is one of the most gerrymandered states with anti-Dem voting hostilities in the nation. That absolutely has an effect on keeping a red state red and depressing possible blue voters into just giving up.

Once again, she only lost TX by like 2.7m votes and when I calculated this back in 2018 or so on 261 there were about 8-10m eligible voters in TX who could have voted and didn't, either from direct voter suppression tactics or because they'd just given up on ever being able to change the system.

And in 2020 Biden only lost by 631k votes which came out to about 5.5% of the vote.

That's easily achievable given the numbers of non-voters I've posted, however we all continuously hear the rhetoric of how TX is a red state and won't be changing anytime soon, which I often hear in the meatspace as well.

I anticipate a limited ruling, however one that doesn't cover insurrection. I do think it's possible for the fascists on the court to think an assassination can be ruled as part of "presidential duties". Likely by pointing out how U.S. Presidents have ordered the assassination or foreign leaders in the past when we were meddling in their affairs and/or trying to pull off a coup to implement a puppet to serve our interests. Most people would clearly, at minimum, see a difference between using that authority to assassinate non-American citizens vs American citizens, however Alito and Thomas 100% want Trump to have that authority and I don't have much hope for Kavanaugh. Maybe Barrett and Roberts would do the right thing and side with Sotomayor, Brown-Jackson, and Breyer. Gorsuch I'm unsure of either way.

Trump did try to institute a Muslim ban and he did focus on separating families and deporting people when he could as well as saying he only wants white immigrants coming here. He may not believe in much, but he is an absolute racist and white supremacist.

I get we've never been here before, however much of the Trump Presidency was marred with him doing whatever he wanted and people trying to stop him after the fact, which due to right-wing judges mean siding with him, as it appears the USSC is shaping up to do on immunity.

Funny thing about the Cons. is it outlines a lot of things which "aren't allowed to happen" and yet designates no authority to enforce it.

For example, say Trump doesn't wanna leave office, who's gonna stop him? Who's going to forcibly remove him from office? My understanding is that falls under U.S. Marshals, however part of his plan for Project 2025 is to replace like 50k agents from that agency with sycophant's and loyalists.

Trump and Republicans have taught us that the Cons. largely operates on gentleman agreements and somehow our government has respected that until now.

Why it matters: The flag which Alito attributed to his wife, Martha-Ann Alito raised ethics questions that were heightened after The Times reported last week on a second provocative flag flown at an Alito property.

What they're saying: Cameron Barr, the Post's former senior managing editor, told Semafor's Ben Smith that he takes responsibility for the decision.

  • "I agreed with Bob Barnes and others that we should not do a single-slice story about the flag, because it seemed like the story was about Martha-Ann Alito and not her husband," Barr said.
  • "In retrospect, I should have pushed harder for that story."

I hate that so many people think she'd be better than Trump or Biden just because she's a younger.

Being part of a gerrymandered district/state who gets fucked over as a result absolutely depresses enthusiasm for voting as a whole from those who would vote for the disenfranchised party.

I live in TX and absolutely the gerrymandering that happens here to suppress Democratic turnout has over time caused people to fully disengage from voting from statewide elections because they are downtrodden and forlorn over the whole process.

I see nothing wrong with the plot, personally. Especially not in the later seasons, whereas perhaps you could accuse the earlier ones of being slow.

I got 100+ episodes into One Piece and gave up on it because I just absolutely hated all but 2 of the characters with a fiery passion and the plot sucked as it was just repetitive "go to Island over here and do X" imo.

We'll just never see eye to eye on anime, I guess.

Eh, it only happened once, however I did literally hear a woman in a group conversation say she could never vote for Clinton because, "as a woman I wouldn't want her to be on her period and start a war".

Yes, she really fucking said this. It's a great example of how women can internalize misogyny and be sexist towards other women due to that.

I tried pointing out to her that there's been plenty of female world leaders who didn't start WWIII because it was their time of the month, but she wasn't budging.

I wish I knew how to beat this mentality out of people because apparently facts and previous examples of successful female leaders in the highest position of government isn't it.

I dunno, I feel like Newsom could sell himself well. He's especially got the fire of wanting to take on right-wing propaganda and those who propagate it, which a lot of people sorely wish to see more of the Dem party do, instead of just standing by and letting them yap their shit unchallenged because that's "the high/adult road".

He's also good-looking, or so I hear, and comes from the state of CA, known as being one of the more progressive states in the Union.

He definitely has his issues though and I think there's other candidates with less baggage, just saying, I feel like the Dem party apparatus may try to make him the next big thing. On an anecdotal level, listening to progressive radio programming he's the name I've heard dropped most when asked for alternatives to Biden.

That's because there's a literal cult of personality built around Trump. The crazier ones have even literally substituted Jesus for him as their god/savior and depicted him in a religious manner either through painted artworks or statutes at Republican events. They let him say both sides of the issue and accept he's right on both. They let him do the thinking for them. He lied a historic amount of times during his presidency and yet they will deny it/says he only tells the truth or as it is, claim it's not what he really meant, or claim it's not a big deal. They will commit violent crimes in this name, to the extent of even trying to overthrow an election in order to install him as some sort of King. Trump and his cultists are literally like any other religious cult built around a figure they think is infallible and there to save them. So many people have made the comparisons that it's impossible to ignore.

There is no Biden equivalent to this. I've used AIM, Yahoo messenger, MSN, and currently still use Facebook, never heard of ICQ.

I don't know if people realize that it will be the police who enforce fascist laws. It's not like Nazi Germany and fascist Italy were without their police forces enforcing the new laws/rules.

Well as I mentioned in my post, he was a huge anti-trans hater and fully in support of bills against them, however then he went and actually met about 100 trans children, heard of their struggles, and had a true change of heart on the issue, so much so that he vetoed their legislature's anti-trans bill, which the legislature overrode. There'd be nothing for him to gain by pretending to have a change of heart on that issue cause all it did was piss off the bigots in his party by him doing the right thing.

I also don't see the constituency in Ohio rallying behind trans children.

Now in regards to being pro-democracy, yeah, he could just be worried about being voted out for self-interest reasons.

My friend gets his plain and dry. "I could never" is too strong of a statement because I have, however that's only cause I'm too lazy to put them on myself when homemade as it's not that big of a deal to me. If a restaurant's burger already comes with them, that's fine with me minus tomatoes (I hate that they fall out and I either have to keep putting them back in or just eat tomato slices on the side) and pickles (I just don't like what it adds to burgers or sandwiches).

It is a little crazy how his dad was apparently like "fuck this dog, I've got people to go see" and seemingly abandoned his dog in the heat of the moment for an impromptu adventure.
