Born to lose, live to win!
Final Fantasy VII
Dragon Quest III
Kingdom Hearts
Chrono Trigger

first three are easy but the last slot is actually really difficult. FF14 should probably be here over CT for carrying the company for the last decade or so but I'm picking CT because is probably one of the most beloved video games ever made, and represents their second most acclaimed period after the PS1 era, their SNES era.

Born to lose, live to win!
Darkstalkers 4

  • It is still 2D
  • It has hand-drawn animation and hand-painted backgrounds, comparable in quality to Cuphead and Skullgirls
  • It brings all 18 characters back
  • There are at least 4 new characters, all of them based on horror character types they haven't used them. Ideas I had: Witch, Invisible Man, Dream Weaver (like Freddy Krueger, or relevantly to Capcom, Death 13 from Jojo), big bulky slasher villain, Dullahan, blob monster
  • The core gameplay is still like Vampire Savior but with obvious QoL common to modern fighters like less tight inputs for moves. I'd want it to still be fast but still pick up and play, still lacking the (immediate) need to learn big combos.
  • It has rollback, crossplay and good single player
This game would take 9 years to make and might sell 500k if Capcom advertised it

I would buy it six times.

Sonic 2
Sonic 3 & K
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Mania

Sonic 2 is really defining for the series. 3&K really codified 2D Sonic, Adventure 2 is one of the most popular 3D games and introduced a lot of non-Sega gamers to Sonic for the first time through SA2B.

The last slot is pretty flexible but I like Mania. Mania is there as the massively acclaimed newer game and personally I also like it as representation for Sonic's absurdly hard-working fanbase.

2006 is infamous, but yeah I agree with what others have said about it feeling like putting Buchanan on Mt. Rushmore.

other HMs: Sonic 1, Sonic CD, SA1, Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations

are there any even remotely mainstream companies still doing ads on Twitter? I remember like Coke and Nintendo and a bunch of other big brands left right after Musk bought Twitter, and many of the ones who hadn't already left when Musk basically said he believes in the Great Replacement

If a Xenomorph were running for president as a Republican, most people who vote for Trump would vote for said Xenomorph, for the simple reason the Xenomorph has a R and not a D next to their name.

I do hope that answers a few things.

If you have a guy that has paraphrased Hitler in multiple speeches, has a fanbase composed of nazis and white supremacists that he has welcomed with open arms, rallies said base to engage in a fucking insurrection(which Hitler also did before he came into power), has repeatedly being slow or outright unwilling to condemn nazis and white supremacists for behavior, has invited nazis and white supremacists to dinner, is known to use have repeatedly used alt-right dogwhistles and ""jokes"", has repeatedly approved of violence against people against nazis and white supremacy, and probably more things I'm forgetting:

I don't know what you're going to call that. But I'm not calling that a duck.

I mean they say they do but still vote for Repubs.

I'll give a little credit to the practically extinct species that is "a Republican so sick of Trump/Nazi nonsense they have outright said they will vote for Biden, or already did that in 2020 and will do it again" but that's about it.

Anyway I don't know how much louder it can get for those in the back. This type of shit should be on every news page. Every news channel. All of them. There's saying the quiet part out loud and then there's fucking saying the quiet part with a fucking megaphone.

To not interrupt the convo in the current topic, I propose the obvious counterpart to today's rushmore: Games That Improved With Age (working title but basically the reverse of today, just games that through either reevaluation or even just greatly increased exposure are a lot less divisive today than when they came out)

For Juneteenth I think black actors or black VG characters would pretty good

BioShock Infinite

Mortal Kombat (1992)

yeah actually I agree with that

remove Chrono Cross
add MGS4

(is MGS5 also a pick? that game feels like its rep crashed even harder than MGS4's did but it also wasn't nearly as popular as MGS4 was when that game came out.)

BioShock Infinite
Metroid 1
Chrono Cross
Mortal Kombat (1992)

People have elaborated on BI and CC already. Metroid 1 is a game I hear get called from the stone age by Metroid fans all the time, and I can't think of another game quite like it where literally no one will tell you to play the original over its remake. Back in the FG topic I mentioned not wanting MK1 on the rushmore in spite of its absurd importance because the game itself has aged terribly. That thing is hard to go back to.

Other games I want to mention: Super Mario Kart, Brawl, GoldenEye, Sonic Adventure (even though I personally still like it), probably some Final Fantasy games, Overwatch

NST was an admitted rush job that was at least partially funded by Sony because Activision refused to give VV enough funding. Coco only got to be playable to the degree she was because some developers had the time to have fun and make it happen. I think they're still solid ways to play the original trilogy but they could be improved.

I really don't know how TFB got the idea to bring back no-death gems in some form back, and actually made them even worse - most levels in Crash 4 are longer, harder, have more (of the cheapest hidden) boxes, and have other small screwy things like how a death before reaching a checkpoint still counts as you dying (this is not the case for colored gems in Crash 1 where any death only denies you the gem if you respawn from a checkpoint. This was also in PS1 Crash 1.)
