So I am reading this article on VOX news
https://www.vox.com/world-politics/2024/3/12/24098422/haiti-prime-minister-ariel-henry-resigns-gang-violence-g9
Well, at least he's stepping down from his unelected position as tyrant.
Now deport his ass back to Haiti so he can face justice for the murder of the last legally elected leader Haiti had.

but I have never figured out who VOX is. There is a right wing Spanish party called VOX.
They're a news media website. Seem left-leaning, if anything.

Wait for real?
Okay so I may have posted that too soon. Apparently the video that's circulating the internet (and getting taken down fairly quickly) is actually from 2021 and involves a completely different person. Still appears to be real unfortunately.

There was an ongoing topic about this on the politics board. Was the only place I saw following the stuff for years.
Thank You
I've never met a Haitian but I've never met anyone who had anything good to say about them. Guessing if true they are a product of their environment.

Thought I met once but he was Jamaican and that was the day I learned the Hollywood version of their accent wasn't exactly how all of them sounded.

the US didn't give enough aid after that major hurricane disaster a few years back(no, Trump throwing paper towels at people doesn't help rebuild after almost the whole country is destroyed). almost all the aid we sent was misused and and didn't help the people at all.
If the aid we gave was misused, how would giving more do any good? Also, it seems obvious that if any nation is to intervene it should be The Dominican Republic.

People get mad when we play world police and then get mad when we do nothing or not enough. No matter what thr US does someone somewhere is gonna be a hater.

And sadly in country it tends to be a case of people hating on which political party made the decision. Like with thr war on terror. People bitched about busch over it. Was oddly silent with Obama while thr war still went on. And I'd bet money had a republican came up with Obama care it woulda been praised by the right.

Hell can't remember the issue but I saw it right here on this board a guy whining that while he agreed with a bill but he felt it should lose because he didn't like the party pushing it. Said they didn't deserve a win

They're actually making it worse:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-68562140
At the Dajabn border crossing between the Dominican Republic and Haiti , a constant stream of trucks pulls up carrying undocumented Haitian migrants, who are being deported back to their home country.

" I'd been in the Dominican Republic for three years," yelled construction worker, Michael Petiton, "they came into my house and took me from my home."

He worked hard, he insisted, doing a job most Dominicans did not want. Now he is back in Haiti with only the clothes on his back and a few tools he managed to salvage in a rucksack.

The message the Dominican Republic appears to be sending is no matter how bad things become at home, Haitians should not seek refuge on Dominican territory.

Last month, the country's president, Luis Abinader, demanded in an appearance before the United Nations Security Council in New York that the international community step up aid to Haiti and deploy a multinational force there.

He urged the UN to "fight together to save Haiti", but warned that if no help was forthcoming, his country would "fight alone to protect the Dominican Republic".

Questioned last week about the possibility of receiving Haitians fleeing unrest, Mr Abinader categorically ruled out accepting refugee camps on Dominican soil.

What's the end goal of these gangs? I mean, what are they getting out of this? Are they going to attempt to govern the country themselves or just shoot it up until they're the only ones left?
This is where cool people write stuff.
I doubt they have any endgame, other than to sun wild.

Part of the problem is they don't have a unified end goal. There's something like two or three major factions currently in play and two of them have leaders who have expressed an interest in running the country.

But at the end of the day gang warfare at this scale isn't really any different than the cartels in Mexico or the taliban. If they can't run the government, they will overpower the government and then place themselves in seats of power and reap the benefits of international aid while the rest of the country languishes as they demand that the world recognize them as the new and legitimate rulers of the country.

People get mad when the US involves itself in foreign affairs for its own benefit and fucks things up further.

No one worth listening to gets mad over the US not involving itself in a conflict it has nothing to do with.

That's putting it lightly, we were under Haitian rule for 22 years. We celebrate our independence from them lol. That being said, our history is not that simple, I guess things never are these days.

The Wikipedia page for Dominican Republic - Haiti relations can serve as a primer, so there's that if anyone is interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominican_Republic-Haiti_relations

I'm from the Dominican Republic, born and raised, and the anti-Haitian sentiment is alive and strong around here. I wish our government would do something to help but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Ok, never knew that. I understand why you wouldnt like Hati, or Hatians. But, if the whole country descends into chaos and anarchy, and millions of people start rushing the border, how will yall stop it?

I personally have no issue with them, I had Haitian classmates both in high school and university so my parents anti-Haitian sentiment didn't shape the way I view life, but I can't say the same for other Dominicans.

I agree with you that it would be for the best interest of both nations if we help them, and we have helped in the past during hard times (like the 2010 Haitian earthquake), right now things are very tense though. I don't know how things will turn out.

it was best not to help them at the time. then again it doesn't help that they start wanting to come to other country's to escape inhospitable conditions.

Not always true. Not everyone thinks alike I've seen people get mad that we haven't involved ourselves in conflicts before.

And i get the government wants something out of it. People don't seem to realize that though. Nothing is free in this world.

The Haitian cannibal story has been an eye opening moment for me in regards to the way propaganda travels and who is responsible for distributing it.

The current narrative on X (and everywhere else) is that a man named Jimmy Cherizier aka Barbecue has taken over Haiti with his cannibal gang and the island nation has descended into chaos. Now Haitian cannibal gangs are making their way up to the US and are invading through the southern border.

The real story:

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry was unelected and installed by the US and UN in Haiti.

Henry was an extension of US and globalist interests which meant more privation and suffering for Haitians.

This triggered somewhat of a revolution in Haiti and armed groups banded together to remove Henry from power- including Cherizier and his group.

Cherizier is a former police officer who started a group called the Revolutionary Forces of the G9 to protect Haitians from vicious gangs who rob, rape and murder, and are largely supported by elite members of Haitian society who are connected to the US and UN.

Cherizier's group and the gangs agreed to a non-aggression pact and now most are working with Cherizier to remove Henry's government from Haiti.

The US and UN arranged for Henry to travel to Kenya and brokered a deal for Kenya to provide death squads that would put down the resistance.

Cherizier and his groups have blocked off the airports to prevent Henry from returning, and I suspect prevent said death squads from entering the country.

The US is now circulating propaganda via social media to create a pretext for military intervention. The cannibal gang story is their creation. Cherizier and his group are not cannibals. It's unclear who is in the cannibal videos and where they're from. The man you've seen eating a charred human leg is not Cherizier.

The US and UN's interest in Haiti is also unclear (Aluminum? Sex trafficking?) but they are putting a lot of focus on Haiti and their propaganda effort to generate western support for intervention.

From what I know, the people in Haiti are largely in support of this revolution and want Henry, along with his globalist puppet masters, removed from their government.

Nothing is what it seems, and as much as I hate to say it, these big news sources and podcasts that many rely on for information are proving western governments right in their argument for censorship and what they classify as misinformation and disinformation.
