What's the end goal of these gangs? I mean, what are they getting out of this? Are they going to attempt to govern the country themselves or just shoot it up until they're the only ones left?

Part of the problem is they don't have a unified end goal. There's something like two or three major factions currently in play and two of them have leaders who have expressed an interest in running the country.

But at the end of the day gang warfare at this scale isn't really any different than the cartels in Mexico or the taliban. If they can't run the government, they will overpower the government and then place themselves in seats of power and reap the benefits of international aid while the rest of the country languishes as they demand that the world recognize them as the new and legitimate rulers of the country.
