The religion board has apparently been closed too.
Miss what the Current Events board used to be? Then come here to discuss it with us: https://discord.gg/ThGKk5UaK6
Because Fandom sees it as hornyposting and they drew attention to itself by speaking about it in public
The other Fandoms dislikes this boards still exist because they are quiet

From what Ive heard from a different site is that it could be a liability issue. People posting sexual images of others without that persons permission could become a liability especially if the images are leaked images or the images are of someone who is underage.

Yeah maybe but other sites like reddit would have same problem
I always thought it along with other certain boards kind of unnecessary tbh, never really understood why forums had such a huge breadth of topics, especially one dedicated to sex on a Gaming website. But I guess it wasn't hurting anything in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah and now that Reddit has gone public I'll be curious to see how long their lax content standards will last. Considering the push some states have made towards ID requirements for sites with 'sexual' content they could also be trying to keep out of that mess.

Yeah maybe every single state will have you scan Id for online porn
It is pretty telling that as "Draconian" as GameFAQs was with their moderations and censorship, I can count on one hand the number of boards they shutdown in the almost 25 years between when the message boards became active and when Fandom took over. They have at least tripped that number by my estimation in the last year.

A children's video game message board for 13+ year olds is hardly a place to warrant talk about sex and/or sexuality.

I honestly have no clue how this board has survived as long as it has or how it is still linked from the poll of the day page.
I guess to make the board more "tame" or "welcoming" for kids, who make up a large part of the gamer population....

Depends on what you think the core demographic of GF is.

Most of the users still on the board are longtimers because the site is, by its very design, a relic of the 90s/early 2000s internet, so it's mostly people who were kids and teenagers in that era who are still posting (i.e. people in their 30s and 40s now).

I suspect this is the biggest factor. Completely stamping out sexy content altogether? That probably won't happen, nor will it be necessary to stay under the radar of age verification laws. Shutting down a board specifically intended for discussions of an explicitly sexual nature? That's something that might actually be needed to avoid having a verification requirement, particularly where the only age restriction now is "promise us you're over 13" when you create your account and that obviously won't cut it for 18+ content.

Which is precisely why they want to do more to attract a younger demographic.

Yeah, that alone makes having a sex and sexuality board a bit iffy. I was never on the board so I have no idea how spicy things got over there, but even having a discussion about sex with someone that young is a good way to end up on a watch list.

I would say there is actually a need for teenagers to be able to discuss sex openly with people who are more experienced so they can get useful advice (there's a ton of misinformation out there). It's just not necessarily in the context of a bunch of adults discussing their sex lives as adults under the assumption it's all other sexually active adults they're talking to.

Annoyingly, most sites that are generally tame and mature enough to potentially take on that responsibility are also the sorts of sites that are going to face problems with age verification laws because they aren't trying to fly under the radar. But then states pushing for age verification laws tend not to be overly keen on comprehensive sex ed in the first place, so they probably aren't too concerned about that.

I'll give credit to GameFAQs, the process of enshittification has been slower with this site than pretty much any other site ever.

Others happen quick. Tumblr went from one of the top visited websites to a bygone obscure low traffic site in a matter of days with a single strict policy change regarding NSFW content.

But I have to admit, it's kind of funny that GameFAQs ends with an admin typing out the word "hornyposting".

Edit: for the record, I think the limitations on political conversations are the main nail in the coffin. But closing or limiting several long standing message boards is a sure way to pushing more people away to an already rapidly shrinking site.

Anyone thinking this is to make a safer site for children is fooling themselves. Most people still on the boards are late 20s, 30s, and in their 40s or older.

The style of the message boards is 90s era so not many young people at all now.

The last topic I posted in (literally an hour before they shut the board down) was essentially some guy asking if he might have symptoms of testicular cancer.

Real dangerous content there.

True, asking a video game message board for advice you should only be getting from a doctor is very dangerous. Fandom did the right thing closing that board down.
Rawr :3 Roar Even! :O
That board wasnt actually bad. Like some topics were just which video game character would you have sex with. And some were more about dating and stuff, as well So, Fandom didnt do anything right by closing it down The poster above me is just a prude and Debbie downer. Theyre trying to close the other board the sex board member met on. No one is even talking about sex. Just about the board being closed

Reddit does remove content like unverified nudes. There was an incident earlier this year or late last year where a bunch of AI generated sexually explicit images of Taylor Swift were deleted. Thats just one example of the liability issue I was talking about in my other post. Its easier for a place like GameFAQs to have a general rule of just no sexually explicit images whatsoever to reduce that liability. Companies dont want to get sued and have to waste money on lawyers so they do stuff like this even if it upsets their user base.
for some reason fandom execs think this decision will bring new users instead of just causing long time established users to stop using the site.

i mean the site needs a bigger audience to have been a good side-on investment. they want to make it child friendly so new users join despite the fact that the average user here is like 30 or older.

sex and sexuality has a chance of bringing up the topic of women's bodies which are inherently political and hence banned for discussion
