after taxes and savings and rent and student loans thats like nothing

were college educated dinks <_< I thought we were supposed to be going on multiple international trips a year not penny pinching

Have you considered living somewhere with a lower cost of living?

Where do you live? Is it a super expensive city or something? My wife and I don't make a ton more, but we at least have kids which makes it all tight.

In the most expensive cities maybe but you surely have the ability to cut back

Taxes are just more you have to consider in your budget tbh. You shouldn't complain about taxes unless you're also going to complain about rent, utilities, food (especially non-essential food), transportation, etc.

That doesn't sound right.

I live in a top-10 metropolis (by population) and take 4 mini-vacations a year (3-4 days at a time, over a weekend to really stretch the vacation days). My net income is just shy of $16k.

After taxes, insurance, Internet, mobile, utilities, transportation... That 16k is stretched out on pet care, entertainment, hotels, out of network medicine, drinks/food, and retirement investments (only 1-4k).

You're a two person dink. Are you just having trouble getting vacation days to sync? Are you saving too much? How bad are your loans? I borrowed against my family to pay them back within a decade. Granted that meant being "on tour" with my family for awhile... Forever... But it got a loan payment out of the way and eventually I'm not dreading Thanksgivings.

In saying that I don't think anyone was promised multiple international trips if they went to college. If so, I only went on two so I hardly see how that's fair.

It's almost as if wages haven't increased commensurately with cost of living and inflation in most places.

To be fair I am very frugal and I know a lot of people who aren't frugal at all and basically spend blindly

Well to be fair, MrMelo did say that after taxes, savings, rent and student loans so it isn't like they're spending blindly. They just wish their money went further is what a lot of people are wishing right now.

edit: just realised i'm probably projecting in that last sentence, so I can rescind that lol

Being frugal like that is all based on making a budget and figuring out how much you can spend each day if you wanted to.

They never have.
Compared to say the cost of a car or hamburger, a weekly paycheck often buys the same amount (give or take) irrespective of era. (Insert complaint about still keeping the 40 hour week while not factoring travel times.)

Common. I see the protest signs that say shelter should be a basic right, pro-living wages, but I also try to compensate for making pioneering commissions (short of "I claim all that is under the sun for Spain") for land (and now air) ownership.

I personally believe as an American who has started only listening to conservative news talk show host Chris Plante, that the real problem is, the national debt that a lot of politicians refuse to accept is a problem, which is over $37 trillion now, and which the democrats want to increase it to over 38 and a half trillion I think this is one of the reasons why we have such high taxes. That and the republicans and democrats who have been in government positions for decades thus millions of tax payer dollars go to pay every single politician on both sides, is another reason why our taxes are so high. Though from what I have heard Great Britain's government is on the verge of financial collapse because of its massive debt too.

So much carelessness. And now we are in a government shut down for the longest time ever because of republicans and democrats refusing to cooperate and negotiate with each other. Instead they just attack each other publically with both basically saying that they hate free speech and freedom of religion if it means agreeing or disagreeing with certain issues I'd rather not discuss as they are touchy issues not everyone will agree on! I wish our country could just split into 3 different countries. We can have the democrat states of America, the republican states of America, and the socialist states of America. Then, that way, everybody gets what they want and everyone not one of those things in whichever states become whatever country will just be deported to the country they want to be in and be financially supported by whatever government til they can get a substantial job again. That way, everybody wins.

Not something that can really be talked about here, but I think even the average American is getting sick of a place that we have been allies with for awhile.
