Final Fantasy VI is one of my favorite games ever.

theres only 4 persona games.

FF has more slappers total but also more duds.

Persona nowadays, but obviously Persona's very existence to a notable degree owes itself to Final Fantasy both for popularizing and setting the standard for turn based RPGs and for making the genre have the cultural relevance to expand in a major way in the 90s with VII and so on.

For me, Final Fantasy, like, by a long ass shot. And I like Persona quite a lot. For all the criticism the FF series gets, I very much like the fact that they do different stuff often.

Then again I'm quite easy to please lol, I've liked most FF games I've played >_>; there's like two I found boring.

Final Fantasy has much higher highs. Also more great games. 4-9 are all arguably GOAT contenders, even if you dont count 8. Only P3-4 and maybe 5 are good.

But FF also has more bad games and more disappointing ones. Persona has 1 and 2 which arent terrible, just severely unpolished and outdated. Where FF has outright bad games.

The thing I like about Square is that they're always willing to take risks and change things up in every installment. Even if it doesn't work out all the time.

I've played two (technically three) Persona games. One of them is a lock for a slot in my top ten games of all time, and the other would rate pretty highly as well.

I've played three (main series) Final Fantasy games, including the two that seem to be lauded as the best in the series. I didn't even enjoy either of those enough to finish them, and while the other one was alright, I don't think it'd even be in a *top 50* conversation.

tl;dr: Persona, and it's *not* close~

I couldn't get into persona

Final Fantasy, but only because we're comparing a massive pillar of JRPGs that had a legendary run from IV to X to a spinoff series that only includes 6 games + spinoffs and hasn't had a new mainline release in a decade. A much more interesting comparison would be the wider MegaTen franchise.

I do think that Persona is doing much better in the modern era though, whereas I don't think there's been a truly great FF game in over 20 years aside from 14, and even that star seems dim of late.
