Party that did something wrong probably pays out less than they deserve to, while the individuals they did something wrong to get so little in return that its more of a pain in the ass to collect the reward than its worth. Meanwhile the only party that really benefits are the lawyers. Even the lawyers defending the losing party got paid --- Cause the best is yet to come ... Copied to Clipboard!

Some class action lawsuits are like "yeah we killed people. here is a check for 11.86 cents because we have to send out payments to 786,000 people" it's good the company has to pay, but this isn't making anybody affected whole. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Class actions should be treated like crimes. With the cost being a % of their total assets and income. Murder is life in prison, so to a corporation, that's 100% of assets and income, they are expected to go out of business from it. --- He who stumbles around in darkness with a stick is blind. Lokarin posted... the lawyers would get paid substantially more if they individually filed every single claimant It would also take them substantially more time and effort, so it balances out. argonautweakend posted... it's good the company has to pay, but this isn't making anybody affected whole. Let's be honest, it doesn't matter how much money victims (or their families) get paid, it's rarely making anyone "whole". If you kill the person I love most in the world, and then go "Sorry 'bout that, but hey, here's $20 million", I'm not going to feel like everything has now been fixed and it's all okay now. If anything, I'm going to feel like it's worse, because now whoever was directly or indirectly responsible has bought their way out of responsibility, when the ideal scenario is for someone to find that person, and lodge a fire axe directly into the side of their neck. Or at least punish them in such a way that their life will be even a fraction as miserable as they've made me (or as miserable as they've made their direct victims). A multi-billion dollar company paying out millions would be like me shooting someone I don't like in the face, then offering his widow $20, and somehow that absolves me from being tried for murder and I get to walk away scot free.. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ...
