And why is it The Shinning? --- http://cdn-android.apptap.com/img/870/mobi.colortrilogy.bitlink/267135850.png https://i.chzbgr.com/completestore/12/10/5/uv4r7nGyrE6ylt2lHGWpiQ2.gif ... Copied to Clipboard!

The Shinning is probably the definitive feature But "3D Homer" or whatever it was called stands out as being one that we got hyped for back before it aired. Although by today's standards it seems quaint. ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's definitely up there. The first Kang and Kodos one was great, and to this day I still quote the Presidental election one. The zombie one was fun, as was "Mmm... forbidden doughnut." Treehouse of Horror V does feel like where they peaked though. Not just The Shinning, but also the Sound of Thunder parody, and most of the cafeteria one (though the showtune number at the end is kind of weak). Overall, it's probably the only Treehouse of Horror where it feels like they nailed all three segments and had a near-perfect episode. Salrite posted... But "3D Homer" or whatever it was called stands out as being one that we got hyped for back before it aired. Although by today's standards it seems quaint. I loathed that one. I actually point to it as the point where I realized The Simpsons was starting to decline. It's why I usually draw the line of "When did The Simpsons start getting bad?" earlier than most other people do. Not helped by the fact that I thought the 50-foot Eyesores part was also incredibly weak for a Treehouse of Horror entry. I liked the Nightmare on Elm Street parody, but otherwise the rest of the episode made me feel like they were completely running out of good or interesting ideas. Even at the time, it was the moment where I started to look forward to the show less, and enjoyed it less when I did watch. It's not even a thing where I look back on it from the present and go "Man, that's where it started going downhill." That was how I thought of it then. But part of that might be because of the hype, and because I had a strong aversion to early CGI animation in general at the time (same reason I skipped on watching stuff like Beast Wars). I probably wouldn't have as visceral a reaction to it today as I did then, but I still think it's relatively meh. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... ParanoidObsessive posted... I loathed that one. Yeah, I totally get that now. And you're a bit older than I am, so you were probably able to better see this at the time. But for me, I was what, seven? It was something my Dad hyped up for us before then as I hadn't even seen whatever previews they had before. He was just looking forward to seeing the technologic novelty of it, which I suppose was the point. But I will say I did feel a bit underwhelmed even then. It ended up being mostly a "tech demo" and there wasn't a whole lot of plot to it. I guess I don't see it as a "favorite", but I do remember it as an eventful experience. ParanoidObsessive posted... I can't remember a lot of them now. But a few of my personal favorites are the one with Homer and the toaster time machine, the one with Hugo, and Stretch Dude and Clobber Girl. --- Official King of PotD You only need one T-Rex to make the point, though. ~ Samus Sedai ... Copied to Clipboard!
