They put so much effort into this glorified shitpost. There was no reason for that magical girl transformation to look so good.

Haven't paid attention to duolingo since that AI stuff happened. Did they ever go back on that?

Not an anime. It's being made by an American studio and simply has a Japanese voice cast.

Like, it doesn't even look like an anime. It's very clearly Western animation injected with some surface-level anime tropes. It's closer to Teen Titans than it is to Avatar.

Final Test? I hope it's the final thing I hear from DuoLingo what an awful tool

I can only speak from the perspective of their Japanese course, but...

It's great at making you practice and absolute shit for teaching you anything. If you already know the stuff they're going over, it's not terrible as a practice exercise, but if you don't know, Duolingo won't tell you and may give you wrong ideas.

The way they structure their questions is also terrible. If I spit out a sentence in the language you're trying to learn and you have absolutely no idea what it says, but the English words below are like Dog My Solar Today To Acorn Took Park The I, and you know two of those words aren't used in the answer, it's not going to take you long to figure out what the answer is even if you don't understand the grammar behind it. That's a shitty way to test people, because it's not actually learning, it's just a word scramble exercise.

Well said, its nice as a refresher or way to practice something youre familiar with, but its pretty bad for actually learning new language concepts since the grammar and rules are buried out of sight.

I do like farting around on their Chess lessons though, the bot is pretty erratic for an actual practice match but its taught me some concepts I wasnt familiar with before, so thats neat.

I quit it months ago. I had a 3 year streak going. It was always an awful app that reinforces useless study habits.

While that may be true I can attest to that working fairly alright, Im on a 1400ish day streak doing a single german lesson a day and I do notice that when watching videos I am able to understand somewhat what is being said. When I was playing Ace Attorney it randomly witched to german and I was also able to get the gist of the witness sentences and then I confirmed it when I switched it over back to english.

I guess it could be better but to say it does not result in learning is too far IMO.
