Back in college, someone in one of the apartments near ours kept playing It's a Hard-Knock Life by Jay-Z constantly. It got super-annoying. Eventually we retaliated by putting out speaker in our window pointed directly at their apartment, and played this at full volume:

Somebody called campus security, and they showed up and told us to turn our music off. We basically pointed to the other apartment and said "Tell them the same thing or go fuck yourself."

That actually solved the problem.

It definitely helped that it was campus security though, because they were completely impotent. If it had been in a real town with actual cops it might have played out differently.

Our neighbors did. They got ignored.

Again, campus security. They were extremely selective about what they chose to bother with and what they ignored (like the weekly fights that used to happen outside our campus "dance club", or the time one dude's car got flipped literally upside down in the parkling lot - only way that guy got any traction at all was after he went to the local newspaper and complained and it became a bit of a scandal, and the school rushed to deal with it to shut people up).

We were kind of surprised they came for us, honestly - we figured they just decided that songs about sperm were more offensive than people constantly blaring Jay-Z. Or maybe they figured we were nerds so they could intimidate us more easily.
