This. Also I don't really know how. And the last time I tried my joints ached so bad I couldn't stand it. That's just how immobile I tend to be day to day. Yet I feel like I desperately want to get better...

A good personal trainer will get you past the not knowing how and make sure that youre far less likely to hurt yourself.

They can be expensive, depending on where you live, but theyre also great value for novices in many cases.

There are two huge hurdles for people, IMO:
  • Time. Not everyone has it to spare, especially those with family and a bunch of other shit going on.
  • It is a process that yields visual results so slowly that it is super easy to get discouraged and quit.
Both can be overcome, of course, if you want it badly enough, but not everyone is going to, and that's fine.

Exactly. I, honestly, just don't care. I prefer to exercise my brain instead of my body. And I've always been like that even as a kid. Riding a bike was strictly a way to get to my friend's houses. Swimming was a way to stay cool in the summer. Running? Was never even on the table. I'll walk and catch up with you guys later.

I bear no judgment on people who admit they simply don't want to, but some of the reasons in this topic like working out costing money, not having time, or that it can't make a difference in how they look are flat-out false.

The first few weeks are hard as It requires time and discipline initially but just becomes a standard hobby after a while and almost second nature to do.

Although the increased food youre need and protein powders can get a little pricey. That gains start to become stagnant after a while so youre need more reps and time to improve. Which eats into the rest of your day.

This has been my problem currently now.

You can get a good workout done in 5 minutes by buying a pair of kettlebells and doing Dan John's Armor Building Complex.

Granted it doesn't guarantee that kids do better, but it doesn't help that we don't have more fun means of being active as kids would with a playground/park. Something that feels fun that it doesn't feel like work/exercise if that makes sense.

I'm in good shape and I never spent a dime on a gym membership or equipment (besides running sneakers). I mainly do calisthenics in my bedroom when I wake up in the morning (push-ups, crunches, planks, burpees, etc.) and walk/jog for a mile on work days and run for several miles on my off days

Lol no, carrying your kids up the stairs is not equivalent to that kettlebell workout. The reason why it's good enough for a 5-minute workout is because the intensity is through the roof.

Again, it's fine if you don't want to do it, no judgment there, but the reasons in this topic for why people can't workout are stepping out of their lane by drawing conclusions about the workout itself (e.g. it takes too long, it's too expensive, etc.) and are easily refutable.

Third hurdle is the fact that there are other people in gyms. Other people make the exercise process annoying. I make it a habit to avoid gyms between the hours of 4pm and 8pm on weekdays because that's when high school kids go there and dick around.

Outside of my work luckily meeting basically all my exercise needs, this is why I don't go to gyms if I -do- feel like working out.

People being idiots in general, the social media bullshit, high schoolers "using" machines just so they can take up half an aisle and sit there and talk.

I will say if you dont want to go to the gym, I got my work out equipment off Facebook marketplace really cheap.

I got a weight bench with a weight bar and 200 pounds of weights for $40. I also got an elliptical for $60. I have bought a few dumbbells here and there for $10-15 at Walmart when the mood strikes and accumulated a nice set. Thats really all I have room for I also walk my dog about 3 miles a day.

My main obstacle now is motivation. Before my dad got sick I used to wake up, chug down some creatine and start lifting, squatting and then hit my elliptical and watch a whole episode of Star Trek or something I would do this everyday.

Now other than walking my dog its hard to feel the motivation for the other stuff again, even though I want to feel motivated and excited about my fitness goals again.

Yeah, i just use it to mean exercise but Ive come across people who genuinely believe that if youre not lifting weights, its not a workout. That makes no sense to me.

I would consider going for a run, having a boxing match, going for a swim, etc. to be a workout.
