Breeding the Gold Chocobo (or figuring out that one extremely specific tiny point to land the Highlander) is the work in itself to get the darn thing.

That said, a massive, marathon boss fight against each of the Knights (one at a time, for extra lulz) of increasing difficulty would've probably been one hell of a fight.

One of my favorite beat em ups.

Its protected by annoying chocobo stuff.

It is kinda nice that they actually give you the option for some powerful end stuff to fight ultimate bosses instead of the powerful end stuff after you kill the ultimate bosses which kinda makes it pointless other than to explode the way weaker final boss.

It kinda is, though?

If you beat either Ruby or Emerald, you effectively get KotR.
Ruby rewards you the gold chocobo to easily reach it, or Emerald rewards you the master materia set that includes it.

So if you don't want to do the chocobo breeding... You can just beat up a Weapon! Easy peasy, right?

From what I heard, the EX version at the time of release (and years after) was considered one of the hardest fights in the game and MUCH more epic.

The first time i played OG FF7 was such a clusterfuck. I bred the damn chocobos without doing any chocobo racing at all (that's a really ugly rng handicap), and then missed getting both mime and KOR until I looked some stuff up about how to deal with Emerald Weapon and was all "WTF is everyone talking about here?"

I also missed seeing how Master Materia worked because I assumed that one of the two useless Transform materia I had was mastered (because otherwise why would I have two), but the game actually does gives you two Transform materia.

nahhh I think its pretty anticlimactic you just walk in and take the thing, hardly an inconvenience.

I like the idea of a marathon fight against the KOTR

Should've been found in the smoldering corpse of Diamond.
