The 4K+ downloader (I have not tried yet) apparently has a 3/day limit and the company screwed over people with a license to the previous, non-plus version.

And JDownloader is a "suspicious download" and there seems to be no info on that.

I still wonder if the 4K+ version is safe, or even still operable, as I prefer the use of an application.

It's pretty easy to set up. I found the command line to use to grab the best version on Reddit and just have it saved and then replace the URL.

Just install stacher or similar frontend for yt-dlp. Stacher downloads and uses yt-dlp for you so you don't have to worry about that.

Probably because it has adware, you can ignore the warning.

Jdownloader has an adware-free version you can download. It's pretty easy to find.

The free version I have is 10 per day. Still not great, but a lot more forgiving than 3. Where did you hear it was 3 per day?

The documentation is massive but chances are that you won't use most of them.

Chances are that at most you will just run some basic config file for download path and -x for music only.

Some reddit thread. Anyway, I guess I can keep the 4K downloader. Ytdlp seems to be all the rave, but the queries on it's safety are apparently mixed.

What does that mean? Who says it's unsafe? It is open source for the record, and a fork of the older youtube-dl.

You don't have to learn shit. Download yt-dlp.exe. Put it in your videos folder. open command prompt. type "cd videos". then "yt-dlp.exe *YourVideoURLHere* . Easy as pie. It will be bad quality but that helps saves on storage. If you want good quality, download ffmpeg which it gives you a link to and put the three bin files in the video folder too.

Simple as pie

If you're picky about video or audio quality, you can do yt-dlp.exe --list-formats YourVideoURLHere and it will list every video resolution and encoding that's available
Then you do yt-dlp.exe --format TheFormatYouWant YourVideoURLHere
The format you enter can be video+audio if you have to pick video and audio separately

The best format is usually like 1080, sometimes 4k and takes up so much space. While the default without ffmpeg is 144p and obviously looks quite bad. I'm usually fine with 360-480p.
