I'll see people go on Youtube and notice they have 99+ unread notifications and it baffles me how you can just not click the button. I'd get if you were an uploader who gets thousands of daily comments or whatever, but these are just regular people. Why do they have so many anyways? Check your damn notifications!

I have a channel with hundreds of notifications. I have some old privated videos on that channel and I never use it except for the occasional comment. It never actually crosses my mind to click the notification icon and get rid of them.

I'm always checking my notifications cuz I'm always like "must be zero, can't risk missing a moderation or payment alert, I wish people would stop messaging me I need to know if I'm dying right now!!!"

I mute them.

Even if I ain't going to read them I have enough incentive to make the notification go away.

What pisses me off is when I get a notification and its an ad(some places bundle personal messages and shit with the occasional ad) or like Instagram will have a notification: "person you've never interacted with and clicked on their story has updated their story!"

I don't even sync my Gmail unless I'm looking for an email.

I have to check them because YT shadow bans videos from my home page sometimes, leaving notifications as the only way for me to discover those videos.

I made the switch to just adding new videos from my subscriptions page to my watch later and just working my way through those. I don't regret it.

Apathy is one thing, but what is causing all those notifications to exist in the first place? Either you're commenting a lot and getting replies and likes so that should indicate that you have an interest in being active in the community, you upload and are popular enough to get activity on those videos, or you subscribe to a lot of channels and Youtube keeps sending you personalized reminders of uploads, which maybe I could understand the most, which is why I always disable "Personalized" and either go all or nothing. But at the very least, I don't understand not being compelled to make the red icon go away.

I should actually start doing this. I so rarely use my Watch Later playlist and when I do, it takes me forever to go through what I've put in it. But I do often go through my sub feed and mentally tell myself I'll watch videos later and then keep forgetting to get to them as well.

This is all my YouTube notifications, but I also get text notifications for the same videos so I see all my notifications anyways

I can't stand having notifications on my phone. I bought an app, BuzzKill, that can automatically dismiss the worst offenders.

The worst of the worst is the Link to Windows app, which has attempted to display a notification reminding me that it's running a whopping 268 times in the past 30 days! Only my email and a social media app have had more notifications, and I want those.

The other annoying notifications that have been auto-dismissed were Alexa (10), Permission controller telling me an app got my location in the background (4), Google Voice telling me it was updated (3), and Google Opinion Rewards asking me to "finish" my profile (2).

Definitely worth the $4.

Is there a way to turn off notifications on YT? Because the responses are usually just nonsense.

I think at some point the notifications become overwhelming. Just think about how many unread emails you have. I have about 1500 messages unchecked on my main email and even more on my work email
