YoshiNESFamicom posted... On a personal level not good. Im in critically dire need of a job, Ive had two interviews this summer. One was at Sams Club, thought theyd give me a chance but they rejected me. The other was at McDonalds which should be one of the easiest places to get a job but even they rejected me. McDonalds of all places rejected me! Ill be 47 at the end of the year. Though Ive landed in this critical spot a few times in the past I was luckily able to get out of it. This time I may well and truly be really done. How is unemployment support at the municipal or local level where you are at? I don't mean to be popping in with unsolicited advice, telling you what to do or anything. I am genuinely curious about what sort of state-led systems exist for re-employment (job placing), on-the-job-training, etc. This is a huge issue facing societies throughout the world and there are loads of different approaches out there. Same state of mostly-surviving that I've been stuck in for several years now. It's far from the worst place I've been in my life, and I'm thankful for that, but I'm not exactly happy yet either. Well, water is coming in from my window when it rains, and now it's coming into my parents' bedroom as well. I had put up a couple of polycarbonate roofs which kept the water from hitting my window, but there were such strong winds during yesterday's storm that one of them went flying. On a personal level, things suck. -Getting over a break up from earlier this year -Laid off 6 months ago thanks to Trump and his goons (RFK and Musk). Unemployment is about to run out. I'm doing worse in some ways, but way better in a very big way. Starting to go out to protests this year led to a rapid succession of positive additions to my life. I am now part of organizing protests, I am a committee chair and board member of a local county democratic club, I am engaging in community actions and civic duties, and I have met soooo many people who are like-minded and so appreciative of the things I have brought or helped to bring to this resistance movement. I've met more new people in the last year than I had in the last decade. I am forging bonds in my community that are really meaningful. I'm doing ok on a personal level. And that gives me a lot of privileges when it comes to dealing with the global shitstorm. I'm not going to be a victim of discrimination. Not great. In the months following the POTUS election I was basically drinking on a near-daily basis, on one had because of Trump and non-dictator world leaders kowtowing to whatever he says. On the other hand it's because of how the environment is being flushed down the drain. Sure, efforts are being made, but it's like swimming against a tidal wave with people consuming more and more, COP29 being little more than an oil state circlejerk, and right-wing governments cutting and cancelling any meaningful pro-climate implementations. I manage to keep on working and doing the bare necessities to take care of myself, but pretty much lost hope, and stopped making something of my life (i.e. career, dating, home improvement etc). I'm in the process of getting therapy (I'm saying "in the process", it's taken almost half a year to even set up an intake appointment). I know it's unrealistic to do anything meaningful to change the world, so I figure my best bet is a change in pespective, to reach some kind of conviction that it is worth it to make something of my life. --- One time, CE triggered me so hard with their objectively wrong opinions that I accidentally punched myself in the balls. ... Personally things are decent... I started drinking again which isn't great for me but I'm just living one day at a time. Took a promotion into management at work and all I do now is work. Usually only take one day off a week. Money has been great but I'm exhausted all the time. Alcohol doesn't help with that, I know. I don't even drink as much as I used to (18-24 beers a day) because of how tired I am. But I'm using it as a crutch... Which isn't the long term answer.
