I'm having a real hard time accepting the Trump supporters around me as anything more than human garbage, and my immediate enemy.

I live in a red state, and this includes members of my family, and coworkers

I wish I could help.

But I'm in the same situation.

I have two young kids so I'm honestly thinking I should probably move. But I have no family anywhere else.

With the assassination, it's going to get even worse. They're going to martyr him, and Trump will clearly play a part in it.

Your kids are your family. Why dont you do whats best for them

They are garbage, and they are your enemies.

I've been there. I had a coworker who had no qualms about talking about how shitty immigrants are (despite her being one herself) for taking jobs and not having car insurance. And also spoke about how Kamala was not qualified for president and both sides are the same.

My current coworkers are better but one is still a transphobe which triggers me every time but I generally just shoot down his shit when he tries to start that type of conversation

It's hard, takes a lot of patience and practice.

It's not easy living in a red state and being surrounded by Trumpers. They are nothing more than what you said, but sometimes if possible you may have to try and fight all the misinformation out there. I think I have helped a coworker keep from heading in that direction by talking about issues with him. Of course this depends on how close you are with them and how smart they are. Some people you can tell can never be reached.

I wish I could help, but I'm having a hard time seeing them any other way myself.

The only way I know how to do it is to think about things in relation to yourself, rather than others.

If you can treat people reasonably, no matter how awful they are, that says a lot for your humanity and strength of character (after all, it's easy to be nice to good people), without endorsing any of their shit.

Note: 'reasonably' does not mean having to accept their offensive behaviour. You can challenge that as much as you feel able to.

Bigotry is by definition throwing the first punch.

These people already abandoned the social contract, and they did so by choice.
