The New York City mayoral election is not just the talk of the town, it's also, apparently, the talk of the White House.

It's currently a four-man race, with Queens Assemblyman and Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani leading the polls. The other major candidates in the race are incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who in recent polls has single digit support, Republican Curtis Sliwa and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent after being defeated by Mamdani in the Democratic primary.

A recent poll showed Mamdani well ahead in the mayor's race in every scenario except one, namely a one-on-one race with Cuomo.

"I would like to see two people drop out and have it be one-on-one, and I think that's a race that could be won," Mr. Trump said.

Mamdani is a democratic socialist.

"I don't like to see a communist become mayor, I will tell you that," Mr. Trump said Thursday.

CBS News New York previously reported that Mr. Trump and the White House were exploring possible job offers to entice Adams and Sliwa to drop out, leaving just Cuomo and Mamdani in the race for Gracie Mansion.

Mamdani, meanwhile, challenged Mr. Trump to a debate in New York City. The move came after Cuomo challenged Mamdani only to several debates, and pushed for other opponents to end their campaigns.

"I challenge him to five debates, one in every borough, where we speak about the issues in that borough," Cuomo said. "Show up. Tell New Yorkers who you are and what you really believe once and for all."
Mamdani went a step further in his response.

"Let's cut out the middle man. Why should I debate Donald Trump's puppet when I can debate Donald Trump, himself," the Queens assemblyman said. "If Donald Trump is serious about this, he should come to New York City and we can have as many debates as you want about why he is cutting SNAP benefits for hungry New Yorkers just to fund tax cuts for his billionaire donors."

Obviously no chance that Trump actually agrees to the challenge but it would be fun and ultimately still a nice burn on sex pest Cuomo lol

I don't think Trump's efforts to make Adams and Silwa drop out would be successful even if they actually worked (don't see Silwa dropping out, Adams I can see taking the buy out for an appointment by Trump). I feel like I've seen 1 on 1 matchups between Mamdani and Cuomo that put the former ahead, though I haven't been following the race as closely lately.

But I would love to see the debate if only it could happen lol

Trump might, his pride plus soup brain might give him that reaction, but Drizzt's right in that his handlers would never allow it lol

trump doesn't debate. he yells and talks over people and if he's not allowed to do that he throws a hissy fit. and in the end he could shit himself on stage and his voting base would still declare it a win for him.

The mainstream media would also be quick to step in after, writing articles about what a genius move said pants shitting was and declaring him the victor
