This hypothetical friend who doesnt exist and isnt me is getting ready to visit his girlfriend (she doesnt exist either), keeping all of this in mind, my hypothetical friend wants to know:

How would one go about beating the Elite 4 with only one starter and a team of Raticates and Pidgeots?

I only played first gen but the Hm Fly was massively overpowered. Spam that and win most fights.

If my hypothetical friend existed, hed probably say Dewgong, Lapras, Aerodactyl, and Gengar beg to differ.

Gengar would be your only real issue since he is immune to most physical attacks. Hyper beam him with raticate.

Extremely easily in the first 5 or 6 gens iirc. Raticate and pigeon are not awful Pokmon and an over leveled starter can pretty much sweep.

The ice girl always gets me. Once past her it's easy.

Fly for the ghosts, water gun/bubblebeam for the rocks, normal should be fine for the rest. Gen 1 E4 is pretty reasonably soloable so unless the team consists of like Caterpie and Magikarp there shouldnt be much trouble.

Ive only played Sw/Sh, but a single level 100 Pokmon pretty much clears the E4 on its own. A team of 6 would be more than enough, especially with potions and revives

Shit, I curb stomped the entire Elite Four + Nemona with my level 100 Meowscarada in Violet. If you're strong enough, the base game is always a joke. And it's not even "hard" to get that strong. I got there on accident just playing the game naturally.

if it's gen 1, sleep was banned competitively for good reason, abuse the shit out of it. also hyper beam doesnt have a recharge turn if it KO's

I havent really played much past diamond and pearl. I think I played through shield once or twice, but it was so easy it was boring, so I dont have enough experience with the end game to say how easy it is to solo or use bad Pokmon. As a bug catcher Im pretty used to only using good Pokmon.

if your team is leveled in a balanced way you should be fine. if you focused on leveling your starter only it should be able to solo them. what starter do you have?

fly on every pidgeot

bubblebeam/ice beam/thunder/thunderbolt on raticates

don't have to have toxic on charizard, but it'll be nice to have on literally anything.
