This is a rare case of a remake that actually feels like more than just a remake but there's this thing called money.

There is apparently a $1 upgrade between the Switch and Switch 2 versions (based on the Japanese price).

What are we doing with these insanely varied upgrade prices lol.

Gungho also said that about Lunar and barely changed anything (mostly removed the Monica Lewinsky jokes).

1 minute in and the dynamic camera movement in the cutscenes is freaking me out lol. That's not the Trails way.

Oh fuck I was misled by the term Prologue.

This is apparently a 10 hour demo that carries over your progress.

The Prologue of Trails 1 is quite long, yes. I don't remember it being 10 hours, though.

I've seen a few screenshots now of high 8 to high 9, maybe they assess some more stuff?

I imagine the game would go faster if you decide to play in the new active combat(oh my fucking god the music hit while I was typing and I'm getting so nostalgic for Cold Steel lmao) mode rather than the old system, curious what the difference ends up being for completion time.

Currently playing through Daybreak1 and we all agree it fucking sucks right? Honestly, Daybreak feels like a huge miss in so many ways that I'm tempted to bail on the series at this point

I've tried and failed to get into a new Trails game 3 times since CSIV (Zero, Reverie, Daybreak) and each time I burn out after 5-8 hours. I'm hoping this can get me back in the mood.

reverie is probably the best 'game' in the franchise. (havent played daybreak yet) crossbell arc still goated in terms of everything else though

Just for the record, I think Daybreak 1 is pretty easily the worst Trails so far and that Daybreak 2 has been a reasonable step up. (as of about half to two-thirds of the way through)

I am in the minority viewpoint on basically everything about the above statement, and Daybreak 2 is almost certainly the worst received game by the fanbase overall.

The action combat was all right. It's pretty barebones in Daybreak 1 and gets a little better in Daybreak 2, but it's never really a highlight imo. Have not played the demo for the Sky remake yet, but this aspect looks noticeably better here to be honest.

oh thank you i wanted to say this after peeking at some streams but i haven't played any trails games other than FC and SC so i didn't wanna risk people being like "??? this has been her voice in every game???"

i don't think it suits her at all. i don't think i could ever play this with english voices.

The most important question that I'm pretty sure I already know the awful answer to:

Have Erebonian infected Liberl completely so they no longer have chest messages?

There are no chest messages. Those were always exclusive to the localized version.

Does the Sky remake have the same action/hybrid combat as Daybreak? Because the really bad thing about Daybreak's system isn't that it's brainless, but that it sacrifices stuff like win screens and a meaningful turn order. (I really hate the Daybreak battle system and unfortunately we're stuck with it through Horizons at least)

What a silly contrarian take on something that's completely harmless at worst and fully ignorable.

I felt compelled to check for chest messages when I played the game, and all of them were bad/a waste of time. I would've enjoyed the game more if they didn't exist. Kinda like bad side quests that you end up doing with the hope that they'll be good, y'know?

I liked a few of them but I would broadly agree they're way overrated.

Though the use of them in 3rd's Abyss and the reprise in Sigmund's Realm in Azure was pretty good.

Short answer: probably. It might turn out that the original game is the better experience, but Sky FC (First Chapter) is the first game in the series and so you shouldn't have to worry about the series expecting you to have past knowledge in this one.

The problem i had with Daybreak is i only really liked Van and Judith from the main party. I think Daybreak 2 was better because you actually get to play as more of the better characters.

I always wanted to play this series, but...like most of its games are locked behind another publisher, said games aren't on Nintendo consoles, and I wanted to properly start with the very first entry because this is a series that it's best enjoyed as characters from previous games return in the sequels.

Well here's your chance to play the first (actually important) game!

I checked out the demo and it's actually impressive. It does have a version of Daybreak's battle system but I can already tell it's been improved here. I still hate how battles just end and there's no win screen or anything. It needs to feel important when you gain levels and get items after a battle. Played on PS5 and everything is silky smooth.

It's interesting playing a Trails game where the graphics don't feel a generation behind. It also sticks to the original FC pretty closely (music is remixed but feels original, npc's look like their original character portraits).

Voice acting is average so far. I've certainly played worse. It's true Estelle's voice isn't great but maybe this is a case where she gets better as the game goes on.

Anyway, I went into this feeling pretty down on the Trails series and left having been convinced to preorder.

The earlier games aren't even Trails haha. I don't think anyone says to play the pre-Trails Legend of Heroes first, though they do have some fans.

oh I've actually played the pre-sky games, the PSP releases. they had an absolutely awful translation (like when you leveled up and learned a new skill the message was like "Estelle was Fire Mastered!" if she learned Fire for example) but Tear of Vermillion was genuinely good despite that. I'd honestly recommend it to Trails fans, at least if there's some fan translated version somewhere or if not, just for dowolf.

I played through White Witch in JP a few years back and enjoyed it, though I don't think it is anything revolutionary (the very short version: it feels like a proto-Sky. Which isn't a bad thing! But it's not a game I'd shout from the rooftops for). I still need to play the other two at some point.

yeah no white witch wasn't nearly as good. i think white witch came first even though tear of vermillion was released as the first entry here. white witch was clearly much more primitive and the story didn't have the same depth.

I'll give this a try. I tried one of the trails games, but I have no idea which one it was. But I remember not liking it very much. It was on ps+ or something. I think it was the first cold steel.

Of course, that's not precisely true since it's a subseries of a spin-off of a...it's complicated.
