Galaxy Fight ps1/arcade.
That game just has a huge difficulty spike on the first fight for no reason. Usually for most fighting games, the AI wouldn't kill your characters outright they would progressively start getting harder as you get into the later stages of the game...

Either that or for whatever reason the game doesn't like the bunny girl in that game, like every time I pick her I just can't beat the first fight in that game

SF4. I can't do shit in that game.

honestly I can normally figure out/brute force my way through stuff the only game I have ever gone wtf the fuck is going on, this is kicking my ass and turned the difficulty done for was Raft on normal

A lot of games come to mind...
Touhou on Lunatic or Extra, particularly Touhou 11.
A Hat In Time's Death Wish.
Ys Felghana on Inferno difficulty, perhaps.
Some lower-level kaizo Mario hacks... (And a few that aren't even fit for human consumption but I won't count those.)
Also some that aren't skill-based but hard in other ways, like the Etrian Odyssey series, or like Pokemon's Battle Frontier.

But I want to give it to Celeste Strawberry Jam, especially its Grandmaster lobby.
For perspective, Strawberry Jam has five lobbies of gradually increasing difficulty, each requiring more advanced tricks.
Vanilla Celeste... would cap out at around partway through the 2nd lobby. I'm not kidding.

I feel that Strawberry Jam has an excellent difficulty curve and does a great job of teaching you the required tech, so a good player can reasonably beat up to about lobby 3 or 4 with enough persistence. But Lobby 5, Grandmaster, is truly something else.
To be fair, I have not finished it. I may go back to it some day.

BattleToads for me. I found other supposedly hard games in the NES era not bad and sometimes even easy in my opinion but this is the one game I didnt complete. Also honestly I just wasnt a big fan of it either. If it had been an awesome game like Ninja Gaiden or Blaster Master I would have mastered it Im sure.

So while thats the hardest game I ever played I didnt complete in my mind even though Ive never played them I think stuff like Guitar Hero would be hard as hell *for me*. Im just not good at that kind of stuff. I could barely pull of the karaoke stuff in Yakuza games and that was baby stuff compared to videos Ive seen of Guitar Hero expert stuff. Ive seen videos of some of that stuff where people who are good at it and it takes years to master some songs. So for that would be the hardest even though Ive never played them. I can tell by looking at it that its above my skill level.

Man I loved that game so much. Huge Kings Quest fan and those old Sierra games. High five for even playing it.

Shinobi was actually fun. The other two were garbage.

Some classic style Mega Man game on the 360. I remember being unable to clear a single stage lmao. Fromsoft games were easy mode by comparison

Fiddled around for about thirty minutes reading a guide then came to the conclusion I don't have the required amount of brain cells.

I was never one for really hard games, but years ago The Surge was on PS+ and it looked interesting. Got maybe halfway through before I hit a wall and put it down.

StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty vs insane AI

Even pros complained about that one. Most wins involved AI exploits to get them to surrender even while they were winning.

Probably Ikaruga? Bullet hell games in general bamboozle me. Don't have the fine muscle control needed to avoid the absurd amount of fire.

That Metroid game for Switch.

I wish I had better memory, because I know I've played some games that have had stages/bosses that took multiple days to beat, I just can't recall what they were. There's been some souls-like bosses that have taken the better part of a single day to down (Bloodborne's Pthumerian Descendant, and Elden Ring's Malenia come to mind) but none of those have extended into a second/third day.

If I had to pick one off the top of my head, though, it would probably be Dead Cells (post-game). Once the third boss cell is unlocked, that game got beyond unfair.

I like the whole series but 5 is where the series really started to get good. Graphics really improved and it changed over to a point and click.

Takes a lot of tries, but at least you fail small. That's a really underrated aspect of difficulty. I'd rather lose 100 times with each try taking a minute than 5 times with each try taking ten minutes.
