The climate over Youtube is changing heavily now. I decided not to use anything else other than JDownload.

You can make a config file inside the yt-dlp folder where you can make an directory for it, since the app will automatically read the .conf file:

Just make a .conf file with notepad and add:

-P "OutputDirectoryYouWantToAdd"

also a bat file where you can basically skip some basic parts of the command to make the process easier.

D: (put here the directory if you save things in a non-C drive)

cd D:\OutputDirectoryYouWantToAdd\HypotheticalFolder\yt-dlp)

cmd /k

And make this bat on the desktop. Now you can just write:

yt-dlp videoURL

just swap videoURL with the URL of the video.

The bat itself is not needed, it just to make things quicker and more practical. You can consult the github for more info.

This. Most hassle-free way of downloading youtube videos in my experience. I use a frontend for it called Stacher that automatically installs and uses yt-dlp in the background. I couldn't get any firefox addon to work anymore, not even Video DownloadHelper which always worked for me through all of youtube's fuckery.

You can't just download YouTube videos, you'll cause Google to lose ad money!

I use this with yt-dlp after finding it on Reddit and it's always pulled the best version available for me.

yt-dlp -f bestvideo+bestaudio/best --merge-output-format mp4 --add-metadata -o "%(title)s.%(ext)s" --embed-chapters "URL GOES HERE"

I've tried so many video downloader extensions on chrome over the years, and they worked initially but an update always makes them no longer work on websites that they were working on previously.

In the Chrome new update where they removed adblock, they also removed some video downloaders I was using. Annoying.

I'm on firefox so I'm checking these out for firefox
