Street Fighter won the poll, so we'll be doing it next. This topic is primarily to discuss what characters should be on The List for people to rank.

I pulled a list from tvtropes, so some of these should probably be eliminated as they aren't major enough to warrant ranking. But I'm not sure exactly which minor characters people want to rank, so I'm listing them here anyway. We can add and remove characters as we go!

If there are any of these people really want to rank/feel should be ranked, I'm definitely up for hearing it. But I think they're primary candidates for deletion.

Although one discussion point I'd bring up is whether the variant characters like Evil Ryu should be their own character.

I know Evil Ryu is just Ryu but at the same time it's almost fanfiction stuff cause Ryu doesn't really go as far as Evil Ryu in the canon at any point iirc aside from the Evil Ryu story modes (which aren't canon as far as I know?) and the playstyles are different which does matter.

I could go either way. Just kinda putting the idea out there.

Id rank Elisa Masters and Gou Hibiki of that lot-- they are important enough that they kinda deserve slots despite not being playable imo.

And Mike Haggar I guess though he seems weird to rate as a SF character.

Sure, we can do variant characters if people want. Just be sure to list them cause I do not know them all off hand.

I'd probably only keep characters from SF1 - SF6, plus characters from the Alpha games and maaaaaybe the EX games. Big no to crossovers.

Everyone OP suggested for removal I agree with.

Yeah, Evil Ryu canonically doesn't exist

But I'm fine with ranking any playable character, even if they're just non-canon versions of another character

These should probably be out too. Those are King of Fighters characters that only exist in crossovers.

Ok. Weird. Whoops. Just figured since they were with Ingrid they were in some weird portable crossover.

I mean to me it's still kinda weird to include them but I'd include them on similar justification to Evil Ryu. It's like doing these for Mortal Kombat and including The T-800 and Robocop and Rambo-- I mean you probably should but it's also kinda silly

I would personally go with all playable characters from main series, Alpha and EX (Skullomania!).

Edit: Id say yes to variants. Also to crossover characters from the above games. Basically if you can select them Id rank them.

As someone who loves all the horror guests in MK (Ghostface OP), I wouldn't rank them in a MK ranking.

They aren't playable I believe. I agree Terry and Mai should be on there, since we let Layton be on Phoenix Wright, and they're playable in SF6. I'll also check this list against the SF Wiki list of playables to make sure I didn't miss anyone.

This is basically what I'll be ranking (minus SF6, which I haven't played yet)

Also I think it's fine to leave the SF1 exclusive characters on there. They probably won't get many rankings and I'd be surprised if any of them were high.

Bosch is a major enough character in SF6 World Tour mode that I think it makes sense to include him.

Also, Vega/M. Bison/Balrog were different characters by region. I think it makes sense to specify like the following to reduce confusion (I'm using the NA names)

Balrog (Boxer)
Vega (Claw)
M. Bison (Dictator)

The SF universe includes Final Fight. I think at least including the playable Final Fight characters makes sense.

Like I might rank him but it wouldn't really be based on SF. But then again neither would Terry or Mai, as someone who hasn't played SF6 but feels he can rank Terry and Mai.

Haggar isnt playable in any SF game, he just has like a billion little cameos.

Correct, he's not playable in SF. Despite SF6 World Tour mode taking place in Metro city, Mike Haggar actually doesn't show up there directly, though he has a statue and people talk about him. I don't think any of the Final Fight characters that have been playable show up there either, IIRC (Abigail, Cody, Guy, Poison).

It'll be fun participating in this as a casual fan and nothing more

About a month or so.

I'd love to do a ranking of every single character that's part of the Street Fighter universe, but I'm aware that I'm literally the only one and won't seriously argue anything truly insane here. ...Though I may do my own ranking of EVERYONE someday in the future to get it out of my system... anyway, some thoughts in no particular order:

I'd like to argue that it feels wrong to not include the Street Fighter 1 cast in a list of Street Fighter characters, but I suppose the fact they're not playable is a valid reason to leave them off. Though if you're keeping a few NPCs like Eliza on the list as requested, I'd definitely argue for the remaining SF1 characters staying too.

Edi E. was playable in Final Fight Revenge, so I'd *really* like to try to justify an argument for keeping him as he was the only enjoyable part of that game. Final Fight is in the same universe as Street Fighter and Revenge was a fighting game; considering how many Final Fight characters would go on to appear in Street Fighter, Revenge's playable cast is even 50% Street Fighter characters! Cody, Guy, Poison, Rolento, Sodom VS Damnd, Edi E., El Gado, Andore, Mike Haggar... but... yeah, I'll concede there's a difference between "characters from a fighting game set in the Street Fighter universe" and "Street Fighter characters".

...Likewise, I'm not even going to try to argue for characters from Rival Schools and/or Slam Masters. Same universe, but not Street Fighters.

I definitely support cutting all the Tekken characters. Akuma appearing in that one Tekken game does make a solid argument for including all Tekken people in a "part of the Street Fighter universe" Ranking, but they're quite objectively not Street Fighters. So... appropriate for my ideal list that I'll do on my own time someday, not appropriate for here.

Violent Ken is an interesting one to talk about. On the one hand, he's sort-of exclusive to one of the crossovers with SNK. On the other, he's very heavily inspired by a scene from the Street Fighter 2 anime and Ryu does battle a brainwashed Ken in Street Fighter Alpha 3. So... I suppose technically Violent Ken existed in a canon game and the crossover was just the first time he was given a different name and stats.

I was originally going to argue that if Violent Ken was on the list, then you should add Shadow, Shadow Lady, and Mech-Zangief. They're alternate versions of Street Fighter characters [Charlie, Chun-Li, Zangief] from the Marvel crossovers and I wasn't sure why Violent Ken was included over them... but since my research shows that Violent Ken does actually have a bit more of a claim to being canon than those three, I suppose it does make sense.

I am the only person who wants them here, but I'd like to argue for the playable characters from The Movie game: Sawada, Blade, Arkane, Khyber, and F7. I suppose Sawada might not count due to debuting in a film, but I think the latter four (the Bison Shock Troopers) are game exclusive creations. And before you argue The Movie game wasn't made by Capcom and is very non-canon, the EX games also aren't made by Capcom and aren't canon. ...Granted, some of the EX characters actually have fans and the Shock Troopers don't...

...On a quasi-related note, there's also Cyborg from "Street Fighter II Movie", an interactive version of the Street Fighter 2 Anime which ends with you controlling Cyborg in a boss battle against Ryu. The fight uses the same system as Super Street Fighter II Turbo and the game was made by Capcom, so Cyborg is quite literally a playable character in a fighting game by Capcom with Street Fighter in the title. ...The counter arguments of "no one cares about Cyborg", "Street Fighter II Movie was only released in Japan", "he was in the movie before being playable in the game based on the movie", and "90% of that game is watching the movie and clicking on things, I don't know that this counts as a fighting game even if it ends in fighting" mean that it would be completely ridiculous to argue for his inclusion. I just want to mention him somewhere. Even if he's non-canon and no one cares, I'll always love Cyborg. Not enough to push for his inclusion, but enough that I'll mention him here.

Kevin Straker was the main character of Street Fighter 2010. ...Of course, that wasn't a fighting game and it's even less canon than anything else I've mentioned. Still, main character of a Capcom produced game with Street Fighter in the title & he does have an official bio on the Street Fighter V website. I'll say he's another obscure character that I love where I can make an argument for his inclusion, but he probably shouldn't be on this particular list? Even if I dislike having to admit that. (Also, fun fact: Capcom USA removed all references to Kevin Straker from the game and declared that the main character was actually Ken! So even people who played 2010 wouldn't recognize Kevin Straker's name... le sigh.)

I agree with including SF1 characters you fight against. Street Fighter the Movie the game is a little iffier, but probably fine to include too.

I'll include people as long as they're wanted on the list. That's what the purposes of this topic is -- so people can say "Hey, can we include (this character)?" and then we decide whether we do or not. I just want to keep the list semi-manageable for people who want to rank (and so we have a list to work off of, using the same names and everything makes it MUCH easier on me to tally. Last time we had people use different names for people not on the list, and it threw things off a little) The original list was "Hey, which of these obscure characters do people want on the list?"

She isn't troubling the top of the list or anything, but I'd include Nadeshiko just since she makes up a fair amount of R. Mika's moveset.

Ronaldo has the Saudi connection of being a player in the Saudi Pro League. SNK has been owned by Saudi Arabia for a couple of years now.

Also, I'm planning on ranking all the SF1 characters even if some of them get removed from the list.

They aren't getting removed, since people have expressed interest in keeping them on. Will also add Nadeshiko.

Considering adding the Movie The Gmae characters as well.
