The FTC rule was set to go into effect on Monday, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit said this week that the FTC made a procedural error by failing to come up with a preliminary regulatory analysis, which is required for rules whose annual impact on the U.S. economy is more than $100 million.

A roadblock, but luckily nothing as extreme as claiming that the rule violates Free Speech or something. They just want the FTC to jump through another hoop first.

It does say something, though, that simply making it as easy to cancel a free trial as it is to start one is being estimated at potentially causing more than 100 million in lost revenue.

Yeah, various major companies sued as soon as this rule was announced. It would be really good for consumers so I should have figured the courts wouldn't allow it to happen.

its a federal rule, when a circuit court blocks it then it is blocked at the federal level. so yeah it effects the whole country.

its not a local court, its a federal court. the federal appeals courts are distributed across the country in districts called circuits.

This is an FTC rule to make it so that companies cannot make cancelling a subscription more difficult than signing up for it. It would also make it so all charges including any recurring billing have to be disclosed to the consumer when they're signing up, and companies have to be able to show they got the consumer's consent for those charges.

constitution is a 300 year old document written on animal skin that predates modern society. everything taken from that now is a vague interpretation based off of ass pull beliefs in what a bunch of rich asshole slaveowners would have believed.

but yes the constitution allowed for the establishment of the circuit court system.

Yeah I'm not surprised it's more than 100 million in revenue. It's ridiculous how many hoops we have to jump through to cancel some of this.

Like LA Fitness has gotten better about it now, but for a while, the only way you could cancel your membership with them was to mail the cancellation form to their HQ. Which usually took a few weeks to take effect. You could sign up online and be charged for the membership in under a minute though.
