No shitpost, I've played every game, my list isn't a troll in any way. Leon's more correct though, the series isn't in my top favorites or anything.

Spoilers I think Hobonix is the best version of him and I know I'm going to be fistfighting people on my bottom spot, but they're all my genuine opinions.

You don't have to be in 50 cases to be the best, you just have to maximize the time you do have. And for me, Viola does that better than any other character.

I'm with you on hobonix! And I notoriously hate what they did with Phoenix so much in spirit of justice that genuinely affects how much I like him as a character, despite all of aa1-4. I guess I just don't quite get playing all of the mainline games and enjoying them but not being compelled by any of the bigger characters enough to not rate even, say, a big villain like von karma over a tertiary character lol

I like what I like. The characters that got the most good brain juice squirted out ranked higher than the ones who got minimal brain juice squirtage.

Very much so. He might be my #1. Great depth and has good motivations for everything, a perfect sympathetic villain and he also perfectly represents Edgeworth's choice by the end of the game of 'saving people as a prosecutor' or... however it's localized now. I also don't care what other people say, he's super cool after he drops the act. A sympathetic character doesnt just have to appear meek (Judy kinda already did this anyways) and he's the actual mastermind. I think his 'screw the world' attitude and cockiness makes him fun and we won having a good clown character in this series (Even if I think Moe is underrated)

I mean there is no one in the series that does exactly what Viola does. I don't understand why it's weird to have her at #1 and still like the games even quite a bit.

My favorite Suikoden 2 character is Zamza who is some random Shoryuken throwing perfectionist narcissist mage who has like 15 lines of dialogue and is completely plot irrelevant. Suikoden 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Unless the character you love is kinda redundant with a major character I'm not sure I follow the logic.

Its probably Emeer at #24 but if hes too major, the next isMoe at #35. I wouldnt have guessed that!

Zvarri! Look at me. He was pretty smart for a culprit. Planning the perfect alibi- a crime with a lesser charge. The whole blackmail scheme with Mask*DeMasque was just incredibly good planning. Creating crimes so that he could be ace detective? Brilliant. He was a little annoying though at times. I could hardly believe he actually killed Kane Bullard. He doesn't really seem like someone who would kill someone. It just felt kind of weird. I like how he created a rival for himself. But really, him committing murder was kind of out of character for him IMO. I don't know... maybe I'm wrong. He may have been sleazy. But he seemed like someone who just wanted to be famous.

The Canadian Judge. He's the judge's brother, so... does that make the Judge also Canadian? I have questions. He's still a cool guy with his playoff beard and all. He's just not quite cool enough to match up with his brother. Of course he's also not been around nearly as long. And he's not the OG. How can you compete with the original Judge?

The main prosecutor of Apollo Justice. I kind of feel like Klavier is cool and seems pretty laid back for a prosecutor. Which isn't really something the series had before (or really since). He's just a rock star trying to do his job. He is a bit rude to Apollo calling him Herr Forehead. I do think it's weird that all that time he never considered his brother was up to something. Kristoph just HAPPENS to know Phoenix Wright who's reputation is stellar up to this point, is using falsified evidence? Like he starts to question it, takes a leave of absence and everything, but never thinks "Huh, how did my brother know this, he was going to be the attorney." I get that he was young at the time, but he was also a Prosecutor. I also feel like Klavier doesn't quite get the development he should.

Klavier is a good character, thrust into the unfortunate position of needing to fill an antagonist role, when that's not what he is, at all. If he were, like, just some side prosecutor that Apollo occasionally ran into while investigating and could get information and advice, that would fit his character a lot better. The main reason AA4 fails as a game is because there's never a tough, mean opponent on the other bench. But I can't totally fault Klavier for that. He's still a cool guy and his air guitar animation hits a real soft spot for me. - MrSmartGuy

Is he a perfect character? Oh god no, but at least hes hot, and he does honestly have a lot of moments that make me like him - Paratroopa1

Robin Newman was a student at Themis Legal Academy, alongside Hugh O'Conner and Juniper Woods. She was on the prosecutor's track, but also wanted to be an artist. I'm not sure how to feel about Robin. I've heard mixed feelings about her from the trans community. I do think she's a decent character, though. The most popular of the Themis Legal Trio. I wonder if they were trying to set up an Ace Attorney game with those 3 having a case together.

I wish I could be happy about the apparent trans rep but I just dont really like her or like thinking about her that much, I did not find the bit that funny or strangely even that relatable - Paratroopa1

Taken in by Samson Tangaroa after being abandoned by her parents, Samson took her in. After Samson went to jail, his relatives kicked her out of the mansion, but she was determined to buy it back. So she became a world famous actress, and eventually did. Kind of sad she had to resort to what she did to catch the killer, and then go to jail for attempted murder. Kind of reminds me of another case in the series. Hopefully she got a very short sentence. She and Samson deserve all the happiness.

Objectively the culprit (sorta?) with the most justification behind their actions, imo. Her relationship with Samson is a delight. - MrSmartGuy

He's no match for the Coolest Defense in the West

I had Klavier at 256. In retrospect that was way too high and I shouldve ranked him below the literally who chunk of my list because hes awful.

If screentime was the only factor we would just Excel the minutes and call it a day here.

My favorite Resident Evil character (for which I don't think ANY of you could claim I'm trolling about, and I think the wiki has a list I did 15 years ago that can verify) has like 20 minutes of screentime in their first game, and maybe adds another 20 in another, and smatterings elsewhere.

Klavier is just not a compelling character, ever. I think if 4-4 is actually written, like, half-decently, he has the bones of being something interesting there with him being prosecutor during Phoenix's death knell case and his relationship with his brother being tested but none of this is every really explored or works out to anything good. I also think it's a big part of his bad writing that his relationship with daryan and daryan getting found guilty also mostly amounts to nothing as well

Robin is a feminine girl forced to pretend to be a masculine boy so she can make it in a male-dominated field

But the fact that she goes to extremes on both ends of the spectrum when she switches personalities even in the middle of talking is what makes her entertaining

Damn, Betty, Simeon, Atmey, and Barmham drops. And below Klavier? Damn I should have submitted a list myself. Honestly I don't even dislike Klavier that much, having a friendlier prosecutor was kinda refreshing, especially because I uh, admittedly am not too high on Godot (controversially most likely.) But he doesn't feel reactionary enough for a guy in a game with two culprits who are personal to him. All he needed was a few reworked scenes and I think he could have been an all timer.

I dislike Luke Atmey quite a bit and he was one of the lower guys on my list at 96. I think it's partially because he reminds me of a friend of mines prototypical Dungeons and Dragons character personality that he would use a LOT but I just find him generally obnoxious.

For the record, I was the #340 for Klavier, which probably just spoiled who I ranked the lowest. There was a lot of potential for this guy, but GOOD LORD, those last two fucking cases with the concert, examining the soundboard and video, his part in taking down Wright, his overall relationship and dynamic with his brother and to a lesser extent Daryan, appearing only once since in a cameo at the beginning of 5-3 and then never appearing again. never capitalizing on a Phoenix/Klavier rematch in a subsequent game, and just not being as interesting to fight against as other rivals in Edgeworth, Manfred, Godot, Blackquill, Van Zeiks, Garan, and even the likes of Franziska, Lang, and Gavelle/Winner. Even Nahyuta had more going for him than this guy.

Oh, and while I liked his theme, it was really tiring to hear it by the end of the game. It simply doesn't have the same replay value in a visual novel game such as Ace Attorney compared to, say, Godot's or Blackquill's themes.

I agree with Para's assessment on Atmey

Atmey was a lot of fun (as was Ron) because you can go full ham with him

Honestly I think they completely dropped the ball on any sort of character development for Klavier *and* he doesn't work in his role as a prosecutor but I think the base concept and design was a good idea and it felt good to see him again in 5-3 so I still ranked him fairly high even though he doesn't really "deserve" it.

I think it's kind of an indictment of Klavier as a prosecutor that his most fun scenes take place outside of the courtroom (investigating his office in 4-3 and the mock mock trial in 5-3)

Also, I don't like copying and pasting stuff posted by other users in the past, but this quote was made in his character rating topic a year ago and I think it fairly sums up Klavier.

"Klavier is a superprodigy, a rock star, the nice prosecutor, the cool prosecutor, helpful, a complete pain in the butt, has his world shaken and is completely unaffected by it.

Former director of the Cosmos Space Center, and owner of a really cool scooter. He firmly believes he will go down in history. Seems like a decent guy, and promises to get Starbuck back into space. He's a pretty great witness overall. Even though he has a huge ego, he does care for his team. He was around for the HAT-1 Miracle, and the UR-1 Incident. His spinning really is a hilarious animation.

A scientist studying teleportation that gets accused of murder. Also hilariously unhelpful as a client, as he cares more about his research than he does about not going to jail. Harebrayne is a friend of Barok Van Zieks, and becomes a client of Ryunosuke Naruhodo after he tries demonstrating teleportation at the Great Exhibition. He's kind of a nervous wreck, but he dreams big. Though he could probably do with some more grounded science.

Harebrayne's a fun little goober. Not really a whole lot to say about him. He gets heated when his work undergoes scrutiny, but later, as he starts to see how pointless his "invention" was, he kinda just takes a backseat after the grownups start talking, and I can appreciate that. - MrSmartGuy

Hes cute as hell, I almost cant believe they made his friendship with van Zieks believable, I love the interesting twist for Ryunosuke on what it means to be a lawyer, also that animation where he eats the fucking paper - Paratroopa1

The Coroner who probably should have appeared in the first GAA game, but did not. I like Courtney Sithe if only for the fact that she's the culprit, but she also absolves your client, and pins the blame on someone else (who was in fact planning on doing it, she just got there first). It's kind of regrettable we didn't get a GAA trilogy with her showing up more. Some characters just need a bit more time to make a bigger impact. She very nearly gets away with it, even after Barok calls her against Strongharts orders. Pretty impressive.

Man, G2-3 is such a fucking amazing case. Despite its main villain imo. She's not bad, but she doesn't have a whole lot of time to shine. Many will point to the case's main issue being how briefly you target her as the murderer, but I actually LOVE that about it. The last-minute switch is awesome. The Cough Up Queen. At first I didn't get her giving out Lunch Boxes. But once she got in court, and gave the Judge a caviar meal, I started really liking it. From that point on, I started actually getting it. She was giving people meals based on how much she liked them. Her dislike of prosecutors from a Detective was refreshing too. Gumshoe LOVES the prosecutors. THough I guess we do get others later who aren't as keen on prosecutors as Gumshoe. She's the only one to actually lose her job as a result of DL-6, which is kind of unfair.

God DAMN she's hot. But not a good character, and a horrible liar. Still somehow enough to almost break into the top half of my list though. - MrSmartGuy

I kind of like Gavelle, even though I didn't at first. She just kind of feels like an obstacle that's there to be an obstacle because the game needs an obstacle at first. But by the end of the game she's grown into a full character. I believe she's the second highest rated Judge? Also the other named Judge. More judges should have names. Except The Judge, but if he ever gets a name, clearly his name should be Judge Judge.

The moment where she turns on Excelsius is probably a top 3 hype moment in the entire series imo. You can kinda tell that she's up to something when she comes to visit Edgeworth in detention, but she hides her intentions really well otherwise. The sprite flip is a very funny consequence. Poor girl suddenly can't see out of the eye she's used all game up til then lol. Then you get a bigger glimpse into the actual Verity in Case 5 and I'm a big fan of Mommy Gavelle. The bit where she scolds Shaun for being rude to the investigators is fantastic. - MrSmartGuy

I was not her highest ranker, but I was pretty close. I thought for sure she was a top 50 lock

I really liked how Sithe not only uses Drebber as her shield in the game, but even on a meta level. Drebber seems like the classic "culprit who shows up for the first time on day 2" that it overshadows the fact that Sithe didn't show up until day 2 either.

I know we have safeguards in place to make sure if people didn't rank the characters in the later games, that's not going to hurt them much, but I'm still completely ready for the original trilogy bias to start becoming a real factor for the top 50. The later game a character shows up in, the farther down they're gonna start slipping in the rankings. The top 3 in particular is almost surely going to be Phoenix/Edgeworth/Maya and there's absolutely nothing a single voter could've done to stop it.
