I actually really like Oregon Trail... 2

The first one is just a bit too basic for me to enjoy much. It's just memes-- there just isn't a lot to it. You get supplies and hope your dudes don't die. There aren't enough meaningful gameplay choices in this one.

Cuphead - 8.5

Considering the original version of this game was created in 1971, I'd say it was pretty damn impressive. I'll always consider the Apple IIe release as the definitive version since it's a game you would only ever play at school, but compared to most of the other junk you had access to on the IIe -- which was NOT an impressive gaming device -- Oregon Trail at least didn't suffer for the low processor speed and the really chonky pixels.

Granted, it was very much an "only-at-school" game. You'd never want to play it at home where you likely had better options. If I remove the childhood memories component of the game, there's not much meat on this bone. But, again, I'm looking at a version made in 1978.

I think 6.5 is probably a fair balance.

Monster Train - 5.3

I finally got around to playing this. Not my favorite deckbuilder. The floor gimmick feels bad because generally if your strongest floor is defeated you just lose anyway so why build multiple floors and the card/upgrade balance is pretty wack. I also feel like the enemies need better visual indicators of some of their abilities. Good music.
