It doesn't mean people have given up. It means they are looking at the probable reality of the situation.
MAGA doesn't want fair elections, they don't want to give up their power.
Do you honestly think they will simply disappear if they lose the election? No, they will stonewall, argue and potentially tear the country in two to cling to their power.
I don't see any issue that will finally force MAGA to stand up against Trump and vote Dem. There isn't one. Even if Trump takes Medicade and SS away MAGA will do mental gymnastics and still blame Dems bacause they are brain washed by Fox. That's the reality of the situation.
Edit: There's one scenario I thought of, War with a draft. But even then the powers that be could simply cover up the death toll of US soldiers and stop bringing the remains home.
We can still fight MAGA, but just because we fight doesn't mean it will accomplish anything.

Pretty sure the temporary reprieve from the effect of the Big Ugly Bill due to the Senators wanting to cut even more stuff the plebs depend on in their daily lives has helped alleviate any of their most pressing concerns currently, though dont be surprised when the supposedly apologetic Repugnants in the House inevitably rubber stamp their approval on it and Donnie signs it into law that the Cletuses and Claudettes cheering on Donnies dickishness suddenly find their conscience upon getting a long overdue taste of the pain theyve helped inflict on others.

That said I do think this all ends in exactly two ways: either the pendulum swings back hard and we get a new deal esque reversal, or the country breaks up. Faschists don't make lasting systems and the country can't continue on as its currently going.

That's how I feel as well. And I can only see the pendulum swing happening in 2 ways: either by election or the people just getting plain tired of dealing with this.

I want to make it clear that I am in no way advocating for violence or gun use with this post. I HATE guns (in fact, I rely on my two huge German Shepards for defense instead of guns). But the Second Amendment is a good example of why this ruling is so potentially devastating.

Under this ruling, our very corrupt President could issue an Executive Order declaring that the guns belonging to all registered Democrats must be confiscated for the safety of the public.

In the old days (yesterday), any federal court could say Hey, that is obviously unconstitutional. The party opposing this order is highly likely to succeed on the merits of the case, and then issue an injunction that would apply to the entire country. Because of course that is the way a serious country would handle an obvious violation of the law by the government.

This turd of a ruling means this has to be fought in individual courts around the country, during which time our government can continue to openly defy the constitution and violate our rights in places where an injunction has not been issued. Pick a constitutional right: it is now open season for it to be gone in places/circuits where the courts dont move fast enough (or where GOP courts decide the Constitution just doesnt apply).

God this country has become a joke.

No. For Republicans the default answer to the "is this stupid or evil" question is never pure stupidity. It is either evil or both stupid and evil.

And in this decision, it is perfectly clear why conservatives would like to end Federal Law. It's part of their larger project to end rule of law entirely.

Not necessarily. ICE has been driven away many times without guns already.

But I guess the main take away here is if you're planning to do something that can get you arrested with other protestors, that you make sure your family and vulnerable friends are safe first.

I woke up today expecting this court to justify ending birthright citizenship. Somehow, the damage they managed to do surpasses that by a great deal. Not that he cares, but I hope Roberts gets the legacy he deserves.

Their goal was to let Trump do what he wants, and this garbage opinion is the result. The only reason they didn't overrule birthright citizenship directly is that we aren't far enough into a fascist hellscape for that yet.

LOL, that's a good one. The only standards Republican have are double standards, and so if a case of a nationwide injunction from that crank GOP judge in the 5th circuit vs. a D president comes to this SCOTUS, that injunction will be perfectly fine "because we said so".

There are basically two possibilities:

1) Republicans are so stupid they don't see how ending rule of law could backfire if Democrats ever get back in power.

2) Republicans are so evil they are ending rule of law precisely because they have no intention of ever letting Democrats get back in power.

Option 2 is much more plausible here. After all, every member of the Sleazy Six read the dissents in this birthright case, which makes the stakes perfectly clear. It's malice, not stupidity.

Kinda waiting on informed takes from lawyers, it seems pretty bad though.

As I understand it, illegal executive orders can now not be straight blocked, but have to be individually appealed (or class actioned) for each case.

Seems potentially very dangerous for the rule of law in the US, but I have zero law degrees and so await informed analysis.

Let me know if I'm understanding this correctly.

Say I live in [choose your favorite circuit] in a red state and the federal government does something unconstitutional nationwide. This ruling means that until the Supreme Court says otherwise, it's in effect anywhere where their circuit has not injunct'd?
