This is so stupid but also kinda funny at the same time, especially how oddly obsessed some people are with doing this

Never could see what's so funny about stupidity and ineptitude.
I mean, I have an idea, that those people are themselves stupid and inept, and rejoice in seeing the dunce cap on someone else for a change, for a chance to laugh at instead of being laughed at, but I also know that such a suspicion is entirely unsubstantiated, and until such a time as it can be substantiated, ought best be ignored lest I count myself among the fools for indulging in my own ignorance.

As for the whole 'First!' thing, it just seems petty and shallow, as though people are looking for accolades in the meaningless. Not that the fault lies entirely with them though, achievements systems in video games often have special ones for the 'First!' to satisfy the condition. It's not all that far fetched to think there would be some among them who see that and come to attach value to that sort of thing.

While I still see it occasionally, I dont see it nearly as often as I used to. Maybe its dying out?

Its a silly practice IMO, but Its easy enough to skim over if I run across it at all. I dont care too much of it.

I honestly haven't seen it for years now. I think the novelty wore off a long time ago.

Just like people here stopped posting "HAI GUYS LOOK, I WAS THE FIRST VOTE IN THE POLL!! LOL!" like a decade ago.



...either that, or I just avoid the sorts of videos that morons are drawn to, so all the morons are still posting FIRST!~, just on videos I don't watch.

I don't really get it, but its harmless so I never said anything. I don't encourage it either.

There are more bots now than people doing that.

Juvenile but it's not like I read youtube comments much anyway. Most are just posting stuff for likes or whatever.

I barely see it anymore, but certain types of videos or communities still get that. It can also be more difficult to see these comments if you have to scroll through hundreds to actually get to the first comment.

It seems to be more prevalent in channels that promote or are more susceptible in breeding parasocial relationships. Which is probably where the novelty began, as a means of announcing their dedication to the uploader that they were the first to comment yet they don't have anything actually meaningful to say.

Occasionally I like to turn it into a meta, ironic comment like, "I am early, aren't you proud of me!" or "You know what they say about guys who come first..."

GameFAQs at some point had that specific act forbidden as disruptive posting. I may have considered, when a moderator, to post "Last!" in a topic just before closing it, however that would have been most unseemly.
