I wouldn't say I had one specific job but from an early age I knew I wanted to join the Navy and escape the cornfields and cow pastures and "sail the seven seas". Sure we don't actually sail these days but my point was I wanted to be on the water and at 16 years old I contacted the recruiter who used to visit my school every few weeks and he told me I had to wait until I was 17 to sign up. So I waited a year and at 17 I signed up with my dads permission and that is what I went and did as soon as I graduated high school.

Play in the NBA or be an astronaut

I was big into art and drawing cartoons as a kid, so I wanted to be an animator.

I actually had several. The most prominent were:

Storm chaser, storms had always fascinated me as a kid. I wanted to be someone who chased tornadoes down and warn people about them coming. But I ultimately didn't pursue it because I didn't want to move so far away, not to mention money was tight back then, had my first daughter young and had to work, then got divorced from my ex, so I was a single dad for years and it just was not feasible.

Astronaut was another one, I, foolishly back then wanted to step foot on a brand new world, that was more of a childish dream than anything.

Also wanted to be a cop and maybe one day join the FBI. Even did criminal justice and took the academy.

Instead I'm a supervisor at a factory that makes vehicle parts. So I never lived any of my dreams.

Work for NASA. Being an astronaut would be awesome, but I would have been happy to be part of the mission control room.

Marine biologist studying wildlife at local national park island. Glad I didn't go that route because funding would probably be terminated right now.

Oh god.... I had so many. Every time I had a dream job the universe would smack me in the face with reality.
I wanted to own my own game rental store, as my fondest memories were hanging out there as a kid. Nearly all rental stores closed down after high school graduation.
I wanted to be a professional wrestler. Steve Austin gets his neck broken.
I wanted to be a lawyer. My high school tells me I'm not allowed to take Canadian Law because I took Canadian History in year 1, and apparently that's the thing they do to screw kids over who don't know better.
I wanted to be to fix and repair computers, something I'm still pursuing. Most repair shops are shut down around here, and all other IT jobs are flooded with foreigners looking for work.

I'm 39. If I don't find proper work by the time I'm 40 I'm opening up my own repair shop. I have the down payment, its going to put me in the red, but its better than being screwed.

I wanted to make video games. Then I learned what that actually entails.

Elementary School: teacher
Middle School: astronaut
High School: astronomer then chemist

I became an English teacher. Kids know.

I always thought I'd be a lawyer. I would have been a fantastic lawyer, probably still would.

Depends on my age, when I was really young like 5, I thought it would be awesome to be a garbage man.

When I got older I wanted to be a video game designer, which led me down the path to be the programmer I am today

I wanted to be a musician and a video game developer.

I did both. I left music in part because I saw the writing on the wall for that industry, but I have made a good career out of games (for now).
My childhood dream jobs had their good points, but they did not turn out to be dream-like. They are hard work, with long hours and lots of sacrifices.

I wouldn't say as a kid. Midlife About 10y ago I watched the Story of Man. I think thats the name. It followed the migration of man and our ancestors. It fascinates me. So I think if I watched that as a kid. A anthropologist

I had no idea, which is perhaps why Ive had so many different jobs.

My parents were very clear that they wanted me to join the family business, but Im very glad that I refused.

Didn't have one... It eventually became a sore spot between my dad and I because I never had any direction or aspirations, I just wanted to be lazy...

Never had a dream job, tbh. I knew from a young age I'd be miserable working, lmao. When I was a teen I discovered IT work wasn't as bad as other stuff, though.

When I was 5 or 6, I wanted to be everything. Not sure how many years it took, but soon I realised I didn't want to be anything.

Fighter pilot.

I ended up with my Commercial Pilot License and an aviation degree and did nothing with it. No one wanted to interview me and ended up doing a desk job.

Archeologist, think I would have been good at it too. Very detail oriented and I get excited by nerdy stuff.

I could have definitely been that relaxed guy that looked like he just wandered out of the hills rambling about stuff where people only understood every third word.

I don't know if I ever really had a dream job, probably how I ended up where I am now and will be fucked when I retire.

I always told people I wanted to fly helicopters though.

I wanted to be an architect for a little while after seeing and loving modern architecture in 7th grade. Then I wanted to be a roller coaster engineer after I started riding bigger coasters.

Marine biologist. Now I'm all grown up and somehow became a mechanic instead. On top of that my best friend got really into scuba diving and even got his instructor license but now that I'm older I'm too chickenshit/busy to learn myself.

I remember once, when I was in kindergarten and had to go to this, like, after school daycare, the "teacher" sat us in a circle and went around asking each of us what we wanted to be when we grew up. When I said I wanted to be a police officer, she said something like "You just wanna eat all the donuts!" and then laughed. (I was always chubby, so she was absolutely making fun of me.) It broke my heart, and I definitely didn't wanna be a police officer anymore after that.

Aside from that, I think I knew before I even entered middle school that I wanted to be a writer. Writing fiction just *clicks* for me. (It's too bad that's the only part of the process that does!) I was also so sure I wanted to make games until I went to college for it and realized, wait, the game-making process actually *sucks butt*.
